  1. this is what I have been doing, just want to try something different. I don't use tungsten and I don't like the way a 3/8 lead t-rig looks. like I said im just tinkering with new stuff, I also think the internal weight will be much better coming through cover
  2. in case anyone is interested in what I plan to make. but will be trying bluebasser's version too
  3. That's what I needed to know, 3/8 will be the heaviest I will ever need.
  4. The "stupid rig" is definitely easier but I don't like the line tie being so off from the front which will make it coming through thick wood cover harder. Maybe I'm picking but I also like to tinker so that's part of this whole thing
  5. I've recently stumbled upon the phantom tube jig hook and think it would be great for flipping tubes in my area. I plan to use the bigger 4 to 4.5 in tubes flipping for largemouth. I like this rig for its weedlessness and natural look. Anyone using these? I wish the hooks came in heavier weights but the heaviest I've seen is 3/16 ounce. So I plan to make some myself. I'm not exactly sure how big a weight I can actually fit into the hollow body though. I would like to get it to 3/8 oz but 1/4 would probably work fine. Anyone else ever done this or have any idea how big a weight a tube will hold? Weights will be crimp on hook weights so about as wide as the widest part of a bullet weight in the same size One pic of hook and one of the hook weights I plan to use
  6. What part of north Florida are you in Mike?
  7. Can't wait myself. One of my favorite shows! I like shaw too, and I always pull for Andy Montgomery
  8. They consider that money laundering
  9. not to hijack but I've always been leery of snaps, which brand do you use?
  10. gotcha. There are several alternatives to latex like nitrile that I was thinking of, those are what I wear at work. they are cheap, thin and disposable. they could easily be worn under regular gloves and should still keep hands dry while the others worn for warmth
  11. Just so we are on the same page neoprene gloves are the tight stretchy gloves similar to latex that doctors and nurses wear. You shouldn't have too much trouble fitting regular gloves over them as the neoprene fit tight on the hand. I wear them in the winter at work inside a shop as a mechanic. They seem to make my hands less cold but I wouldn't think they would do much out in the elements and especially not up north. My only problem with them is no matter the temperature they make my hands sweat
  12. if I remember right the OP in that other thread said he wore the neoprene gloves under his regular gloves and they kept his hands dry, dry hands = less cold hands.
  13. That's a pond fish? Must have some plenty to eat in that pond. Nice one!
  14. I need friends like yall, then I could just come over and "go shopping" anytime I want
  15. From time to time I play. I tend to get hooked like you said for about a week on a game and then not touch it for a month or two. Nice to have when your sick or satelite tv goes out though
  16. I get what you mean and I'm no neuroscientist so there's no real point in me even commenting but I still believe that it is a conscious choice but that the choice is made quicker through repeated actions like setting the hook or mashing the brakes on a car. I agree with what Tom said though. Its more important to know a strike occurred than having the quickest hook set Who knows how many we miss that we never felt, I want to catch as many fish as possible but at the same time I'm fishing for enjoyment so its all good
  17. Im keyong in on it sayin how fast humans react to stimula of touch. Are they measuring a body reaction(twitch) or the time it takes for the brain to react and perform(hook set)? I'm sure of one thing, I ain't as quick as a bass Maybe we should all be throwing mighty bite baits. They guarantee a fish to hold on longer
  18. Same for me except 3/0 hook for reg size and 5/0 for the mag ultravibe. Catt what the heck is this watermelon neon your always talking about. Ain't never seen that color zoom worm? I really wish they would make a black ultravibe
  19. I can and that's what I've done in the past. But Im now trying to not waste any line, if I buy a 200 yard spool I want to spool 4 reels with 50 yards and have none left over or have any short.
  20. Junger nailed it for me. From now on I will full spool with mono and strip off 50 yards. Then I will know for sure and not waste any braid or fluro. There may be a slight difference due to difference in line diameter between the backing and the top line but it shouldn't be too much
  21. So maybe I'm cheap(maybe). But I always try to get the most out of my dollar. All of my reels are spooled with mono, some full spools and some half for backing braid and fluro. I back braid for 2 reasons, line dig in and also to save money on line. Fluro is just to save money. I normally try to put 50 yards of braid/fluro on top of my mono so if I buy a 200 yd spool I can do 4 reels. How do yall do this? Educated guess or do you get technical. I've been meaning to mark off 50 yds so I can be precise but then how will I know how much mono it will take to make a full spool?
  22. We call em mudfish or black fish and I only kill them by accident trying to get my lures back, those things are prestoric. Crazy fighters too, only fish I've ever caught do the death roll like a gator. I've fished with several guys in tourneys that break their jaw before releasing(basically killing them) for what they believe is an act of conservation. I just wish they tasted good.
  23. Country and city for me. Mother raised me in the city until about 10 when she passed and I moved in with my grandmother in the country. 125 acres to roam and a fishing pond. These were my teenage stomping grounds and made the most impact on me. I now own a house 30 miles outside of the closest town. And about 10 miles from rhe Chattahoochee river. Can't even get internet or TV unless its satellite and I wouldn't have it any other way
