  1. I use braid on my moderate/fast rods. I really like the sensitivity of braid on reaction baits.
  2. X 2. I like the length for working the bait and the parabolic action for keeping them pinned.
  3. Return it and get the fb.
  4. I'd send it to dvt for a cleaning and super tune.
  5. Have you ever flushed and properly lubed the spool bearings in chronarch? Lews make good reels, but I prefer shimano and daiwa.
  6. I agree with smalljaw. You were probably losing fish because you weren't getting the hook set. I'd go with a fast or xf medium power rod.
  7. I'll also stick with the Alberto. My fg knot comes unwound too often at the wrong time.
  8. I like braid with leaders. Try a long leader like 8'.
  9. Like some others, I use Palomar with braid and improved clinch with fluoro. I don't use mono.
  10. I have one bfs combo (px type r with diy spool and klx finesse rod). I bought the rod and reel used so I spent $300 so not too much. It definitely can get pretty expensive though. I prefer casting gear over spinning because for me, it's more efficient and enjoyable. I'm more accurate and can make more casts.
  11. I use that rod for chatterbaits, buzzbaits, jerkbaits, squarebills, lipless, cranking baits and top waters. Basically any moving baits. I find it a very versatile rod.
  12. I've had great experiences with Japan lure shop and Japan tackle. I'm always shocked by how fast I get my orders from Japan.
  13. You don't really "need" anything else, but personally I'd get a frog rod. The lakes I fish have some heavy weeds and pads and I'd be lost without my xx perfect pitch.
  14. When I go on vacation in sc I do some inshore fishing. It's saltwater so I've always avoided bringing my MG reels. For lighter stuff I use an alphas sv without issues. I rinse my gear at the end of the day and give them a more thorough cleaning/lube when I get home.
  15. I use mh/xf casting gear and 14lb fluoro. I don't know what they weigh, but they are pretty heavy.
  16. The scorpion dc doesn't have the cool whine though. I have an exsence dc, but I got it while yen/dollar exchange was more favorable. It's a killer frog reel.
  17. I don't have experience with that reel, but for me some reels pitch better than others especially with lighter lures. Reels with lighter spools start up faster and reels with heavier, deeper spools take more inertia to get started which makes the lure pitch upwards and can backlash easier.
  18. Lews make good reels, but I prefer shimano and daiwa. One of my favorites are the 50e and I've heard the 70 is similar.
  19. I caught my pb this spring on my yak with no scale. The rod was a megabass x7 extreme mission, reel was td ito, line was 30lb power pro with 12lb fluoro leader and lures was a white zman chatterbait. As I was reeling the lure back in I saw her mouth open right at the yak. It was not the most memorable fight, but she was a beauty.
  20. I do a deep clean once a year in the winter because it gives me something to do. I lube as needed.
  21. The good thing about frog rods is they don't have to be crazy sensitive. They just need to have good action and backbone.
  22. I'd go with the 6'8" mh/xf. I use a 6'8" mh/moderate fast.
  23. I like yozuri hybrid too. I'm more curious about how you like the reel.
  24. Don't use real magic. It weakens line over time.
