I had a Calais and sold it. Besides the Steez, I have plenty of Zillion reels. They simply feel much more solid to me. I also prefer the longer stock handle on the Zillion. Id go for the 4.9 for what you are planning on using it for.

One of the main ingredients in growing these huge bass is food. Unfortunately that has been diminshed in many Nor Cal lakes, as trout plants have stopped. That will definitely hurt the ability to grow record size fish. Personally I think that there has to be several 20+ lb fish swimming around the Delta. The trouble is finding them.

This is on my short list. I understand Cuba has some of the best waters for bass. Anyone ever been? It's pretty cheap to go, and since I have dual citizenship USA/Mexico I figure why not. Guys this is primarily aimed at our international members, or those with dual citizenship. As you may know, it is still illegal for US citizens to travel to Cuba.

That fish with the transparent head is called a barrel eye. It's found off the coast of CA. Why arent bass like that? ;D

You want a really good shave, invest in a straight edge. I use a Dovo, have been for about a year and let me tell you - I get the best shave I've ever had. I now only shave once a week as well. Better for your skin.

Agreed. The rod is perfect for lures up to 1/2 oz. Anything heaivier would be too much. I still think these rods are waaaay under appreciated.

The reel does work. It's an ingenious system where the contact between the spool lip and line is minimized during casting. The spool lip looks like a wave if you will. This way when line is coming off the spool it only touches at the highest point of the spool. The reel itself is a very nice piece for the price.

Depends on mood and location for me. Sometimes I'm happy catching 40 bass to 5 lbs. Other times I'm looking for that double digit fish. Also depends on species. If I'm after stripers or peacocks, bigger is definitely better.
