1000 Size Shimano spinning reel on a 7'6 rod??
I don't own a boat and fish from the shore or dock most of the time. So over the last several years Ive slowly been switching over all my rods to 1 piece longer rods for greater distance. my main spinning rod is 7'5, my main baitcasting rod is 7'6 and my muskie/pike rod is 8 foot. this 7'6 rod will replace a 5'10 rod. the extra 5 or 6 inches in length over a standard 7 foot rod really makes a difference in casting distance. I have fallen in love with longer rods big time lol my shortest rod now is a 6'7 UL loomis trout rod lol

1000 Size Shimano spinning reel on a 7'6 rod??
it does but I have used 1000 size shimano reels for years in various models and never had any issues with 6 pound mono. they cast surprisingly far for a little spool. I've just always used them on shorter rods than this one will be

Trilene XL no more
so back in the late 90s Berkeley had a line called Trilene Pro I think that was the orange photochromic color. then they changed the name to Premium Strength (it was the same as far as I could tell). It was awesome, I used to use it on both spinning and casting gear. then some time later it was discontinued. they did revisit the orange photochromic color with Sensation a few years later if I recall. I found a pic of the old Premium strength, it was offered in Phantom Green and the Orange Photochromic

1000 Size Shimano spinning reel on a 7'6 rod??
ok so an update to this thread, I went to the tackle store and put a 1000 size nasci on the 901S IMX pro that they had there. it was fine. I am going to get this rod soon (Wifey even said so LOLOL) but one thing is for sure: they have gone up in price. from $439 last year to $539 Canadian this year. im still getting it l don't care LOL this is going to replace an 18 year old Loomis GL3 SJR700 with a messed up reel seat. it seems like the tip is nice and light and the extra length is exactly what I am looking for

Trilene XL no more
yeah I use the 6 and 10 on spinning gear with no issues. it casts great and is strong as hell. I've also used the 12 and 14 pound on 4000 size spinning reels for salmon and striped bass, and its awesome.

Trilene XL no more
I used to be a diehard XL user then big game then Sufix Siege. once I discovered Sufix Siege i never looked back on both spinning and casting gear. its the best. but its a lot more $$ than Big Game.

Rods series by Company : Hidden Gems, etc.
IMX Pro MBR 903C is a hidden gem. the shorter version of this rod (843) get all the attention but the 7'6 length combined with the MH Mag Bass taper is really awesome.

GLX 844c MBR
I have had the clicking noise on a few Loomis rods. its the epoxy cracked at the guide foot where it is epoxied to the rod blank. you should be able to reproduce the sound by pushing on a guide in a downward direction with your finger. I ended up exchanging my rod at the store I bought it from with no issues. Loomis never had these issues before but I understand they contract out the installation of the guides (or at least they used to) not sure if this is why they have these issues???

Knot to join 80lb. leader to 30 lb. mono?
could you use a palomar knot on each side of a swivel to join the two sections?

To U40 or Not To U40...that is the question
Ive never used it. been fishing with cork handles for years and years. aIve never used it. been fishing with cork handles for years and years. that being said, now that I have read about the product now I want to use it LOL

The Doubled Double Davy Knot
is this a direct connection knot? or is it a knot to connect a mainline to a leader? I use a palomar knot when tying direct for my UL rig, I use sufix Siege in either 4 or 6 pound test depending on what my local tackle store has available. its surprisingly strong with the palomar knot

Ugly Stick- I just don't get it.
it definitely doesn't help you hook them. but it definitely can help you land them. eg. get a good fish that is pulling drag on a cheap spinning rig with a crappy drag and you may not land your fish. with a smooth drag on a better reel you just might.

I never use baitcasting reels
I'm the opposite. I rarely use spinning gear except in throwing really light stuff, sometimes paddle tails on my jig and worm spinning rod. Ive never used a DC reel but apparently they can be really good for either beginners or people that struggle with mastering baitcasting reels. might be worth a look. there are certain baits that are tough to fish on a spinning rig, mainly deep diving crankbaits, big inline spinners and big spinner baits. Spinning reels just don't have the torque. you end up waring your arm off trying to retrieve em lol

What reel should I pair with my 7ft St. Croix Legend Elite panfish rod?
stradic 1000 I have used various models of the stradic over the years and they all have been awesome. a 1000 size balances well with most longer ultralight/light rods.

Explain Shimano MGL for dummies like me
right but what I was getting at is the MGL reels like the Chronarch MGL and Curado MGL are not shallow spooled. they are normal spools with porting. so does that mean that older reels that werent labelled MGL could be called that today?
-
Explain Shimano MGL for dummies like me
so for an older reel like the Curado 200i that has a ported spool, does it have essentially the same thing even though its not labelled "MGL"? the spool on the reel isnt shallow though, but then again neither are the 150 size MGL reels like the curado and the bantam??
-
Why did they stop making 5:1 power gear ratio baitcasting reels?
I have the curado 200i PG which I believe was the last north american shimano baitcaster in a PG ratio. I think it was released in 2016 if I recall. its a 5.5:1 ratio. there is a bantam in a PG ratio but its a japan only model although you can probably buy it online I would think.

Spinning Reels in the Rain....
years ago certain shimano models that were really smooth (at the time Stradics and Symetres) had issues with the friction ring gasket swelling when wet and causing the reel to bind. the friction ring was what was in place to stop the handling from turning quickly during a cast (because the reels were so smooth) and causing the bail to trip and close. the cheaper shimanos at the time (Sedona on down) did not have this friction ring and thus didn't bind up. Shimano was in denial about this for a long time if I recall. this was 20 years ago now though. I had one symmtre bind up (a green model) when the friction ring broke and became fragmented. it had nothing to do with water though. people used to call them Shimbindos lol they lost some customers back then thats for sure. I believe all issues have long been resolved with Shimano Spinning reels nowadays
