I hate spinning gear
may I ask what line you were using that gave you so much trouble? I use Sufix Siege mono on my spinning rigs and its awesome. strong tough and casts very well.

Bigger Swimbait Reels
what about a Tranx 300? I have the 400A and its amazing for big baits (I use it for pike and hopefully musky one day, I'm still trying for my first lol

Rod to go with Shimano Stradic FL
One option might be the IMX Pro SJR843. I have the SJR 843 in an older GL3 model and it is awesome for everything although it is probably too stiff for something like drop shotting. The IMX pro version might be awesome for what you are looking for

Braid vs Mono line
I use Sufix Siege mono in 12 pound test on my baitcasting rig all the time and its awesome you don't have to move to braid if you don't want to. just because its mono doesn't mean its only a beginner line. Its excellent all purpose line forever if you choose it to be.

If you can use only one line...
10 pound Sufix Siege mono I use this on a 3000 size stradic with no issues, strong and casts like a dream

Plano Jumbo Airliner Rod Case
I have 2 of the Escape Series spinning rods (7 foot M and 6'9 MH) and they come with their own indestructible rod tube and rod bag. the great thing about the Escapes is that the rod tube will fit inside the largest size suitcase on the diagonal. so you don't have to carry them separately. The only issue with that is the rare chance they lose your luggage. However I think the Escape series might be discontinued but you can probably find them online like from AL. They are pricey but very good.

St.Croix rifle handle
Which rod line has this? I know the new Victory rods have foam covering the exposed blank on the baitcasting reel seats and that sucks. makes the rod handle bulky big time

Do you have an all time favorite fishing reel?
Although its not for bass, my Tranx 400A is amazing.
-
Favorite fishing knot
palomar
-
Wind knots - is it the line, the reel or me?
As mentioned earlier, stop using braid on spinning reels, I went back to 10 pound test sufix Siege and never looked back. F braid lol

The OG And The Present
what does OG stand for? nice combo!

Your Most Basic Mono
I switched to Sufix Siege and never looked back. Its like a limp Big Game. Super strong yet limp enough to use on all my spinning rigs as well as baitcasting rigs. Which is a rare, if magical, combo. With a palomar knot I bend hooks on 6 pound test on a mepps #2 spinner. 20 pound on my pike/musky rod I can't break when snagged. have to cut it.

New Curado
thats kind of what i was asking because the Curado I has the first generation SVS and I never make adjustments to either the dial or the brakes, just the cast control knob. that being said I dont throw lighter stuff either though. maybe if I went down to 1/4oz I might have to. right now I use my spinning gear for 1/4 and under

Do It All Baitcaster - What Line?
I use 12 pound Sufix Siege on my all around baitcasting setup
-
New Curado
how does the infinity SVS compare to the first generation of SVS (on the curado i)? I have the curado 200i and it is set it and forget it (dial at 3, brakes 2 on and I never touch them - just use the cast control for changing lures). I have always wondered if the K and the new MGL were better than the I version because of the newer brakes (the ones on the I are red, I think the newer brakes on the K and MGL are clear??) that being said the curado I casts a long way

What line should I put on my bait caster
I use 12 pound Suffix Siege on my baitcasting rig. its awesome

Rapala X Rap Jointed Shad
Anyone else love this big (1 5/8 oz) rapala? Last summer I was smashing pike with it in montreal on my musky rig in the yellow perch color, this year I plan on doing the same (and hopefully catch a musky lol)
-
Anybody tried these reels?
I would probably go with a Shishamo
-
Is ML enough?
for what its worth I love throwing #3 Mepps Black Fury Spinners and #3 Aglia's on rods like that. they are perfect and inline spinners like Mepps catch everything that swims.

Northland Spinnerbaits
I buy them off the spinnerbait rack and they hold up very well. All the pricey Booya ones (Pikee) I have bought have had their hooks rust after one season. Terrible product IMO. Northland is excellent for the money. they are well built and will last forever and wont rust.. they are closed loop type too so you can add a steel leader for pike. highly recommended

Spooling What NOT To Do
you can eliminate the tape altogether by just using some mono backing. thats what I used to do when I used braid. I'm not a fan though so I went back to Sufix Siege mono.

All Around set up, higher end.
I just picked up the MBR 903C in IMX Pro and I cant wait to fish it. I like the extra length the 903 over the 843. just a suggestion. I also went with it as it has a standard Fuji reel seat. A lot of people don't like the trigger position on the custom reel seat of the GLX (check out reviews on Tacklewearhouse. a lot of people hate that seat lol

Highest Line capacity In Low Profile baitcasting Reel
it is possible to palm a tranx 500? I have the tranx 400A and its fine to palm but I think it weighs 7 oz less than the 500. the 500 is a beast!!

Loomis GL3 SJR700-18
when I bought this rod 18 years ago from Bass Pro shops in Canada they were $240 Canadian but at the time the Loomis prices in Canada mirrored those in the States. Eg. the IMX I bought in the late 90s was $250 Canadian and I think they were $250 US in the States. This was probably because we had a Loomis production factory up here known as G. Loomis Canada. this rod has a very light tip. but has some backbone as well, but its still a light powered backbone. the guys at tackle tour talk about the GL3 SJR700 here: http://www.tackletour.com/reviewmbkirisamelimited.html "Countless years ago, during my bass fishing youth, spinning gear was my mainstay. Overall, it was less expensive and easier to use than baitcasting gear, and the disparity between entry level, median, and top end gear wasn’t as wide when money was factored in. My combo of choice? A Shimano Symetre 2000 with QuickFire II matched up with a G.Loomis SJR700-21 GL3. Man how I loved that combo. Back then, the Stradic was Shimano’s top end freshwater spinning reel. It was white with a wooden knob, but right around $100. No way I could swing that, so instead, I went with second from the top in the Symetre and right around a $60 or $70 price tag. G.Loomis was still relatively young as a company and the GL3 replaced my five foot long LCI (Loomis Composites Inc) ultra light. The SJR700-21 was five foot ten inches, so I got a little more length out of it, and it also had this mean new taper Gary Loomis called “Mag-Light”. Essentially, it’s a light powered spinning rod with an extra-fast taper, but what it felt like was the tip of my 5’ LCI Ultralight fused onto a much more powerful blank. This was the ultimate combo for fishing four inch finesse worms on a #2 lightwire Gamakatsu worm hook and split shot. Six pound test Original PLine was the line of choice and I absolutely slayed them because I could feel everything. Want to know what a sensitive rod really is? Fish with a quality ultra-light stick for a while and you will be spoiled. The SJR700-21 allowed me this luxury without the handicap of an ultra-light backbone. But of course, times change, desires evolve and ultimately, that combo, really just the stick - was retired for reasons of nostalgia and the opportunity to try different gear. See, I discovered this thing called a job where I do what my manager asks, and they give me money to buy fishing gear! Can you believe it? As the income grew, so did my tackle arsenal, but still, I had yet to find a stick that duplicated the magic of my trusted SJR700-21 GL3. '

Loomis GL3 SJR700-18
I own the SJR700 GL3, its 5'10 Mag light power and one of the nicest rods I own. I have had it for 18 years. I have just put a new reel on the combo, a shimano Nasci 1000FC. I use 6 pound sufix siege mono on the rod and its amazing for casting lighter baits for bass and trout. its killer to fish #3 Mepps spinners on, thats what I caught this huge brown trout on, casting the shoreline of lake ontario. the rod is discontinued, but I have been told that the IMX PRO SJR 721 is almost a twin of this rod, If it ever breaks on me, I will look to replace it with this particular rod. you can tell the rod is really showing its age, look at the handle and reel seat LOLOL
