Any suggestions for low memory mono?
Sufix Siege is the best mono i have ever used. I use 12 on baitcasting, 10 on spinning and its awesome. handles easily on spinning and baitcasting gear.

POLL: NRX Plus MBR vs Conquest MBR
the conquest doesn't use recoil guides. I have never used them but i hear that you either love them or you hate them. something to consider

Remember when fishing reels came with a bottle of oil .
my tranx 400A i bought last year still had the oil.

G Loomis GCX just dropped
JP DeRose commented on Youtube that the biggest difference is the guides (they are by Sea something ??)

Fast 3 Piece Light/Ultralight
d**n I had no idea. I guess Loomis only makes the 7 foot GLX models now, its the only ones showing on their website... https://www.gloomis.com/collections/glx-series/products/escape-glx-series

Fast 3 Piece Light/Ultralight
https://www.tackledirect.com/g-loomis-escape-travel-rods.html the first two Loomis Escape travel rods listed here would fit the bill perfectly. I have two heavier spinning models and they are great. come with a rod bag and indestructible pvc rod tube too. I own the 7 foot M power and the 6'9 MH power. I'm sure the light and UL ones would be just as great.

Why copolymer/mono is the most versatile line
i tried braid on spinning gear and was getting wind knots. Looking back i should have used a heavier braid (i was using 10 pound Sufix 832) needless to say, soon after i discovered Sufix Siege mono and loved it, its the best overall mono i have ever used. I use it on all my rods from UL (4 pound) up to my muskie/pike rig (20 pound) and everything in between

Need Help....St Croix Victory vs G.Loomis E6X
yes the redesigned ones are. not the first generation (although the MBR903c was an exception - this model is still very good)

Need Help....St Croix Victory vs G.Loomis E6X
they have premium cork handles but they incorporate EVA foam. the Loomis rods do not. no foam at all. the casting models of the Victory series have the blank covered up in front of the trigger. they are not exposed blank handles which is very odd at the price point I would agree the on the whole the first generation E6X rods were a disappointment -but thats probably why they redesigned the whole line up in 2018. the new versions are way better. I own one of each generation. Loomis listened to the feedback. unfortunately, the reputation of the 2015 models still follows them around..

Need Help....St Croix Victory vs G.Loomis E6X
i think the first generation (2015) E6X rods were hit and miss. However Loomis revamped the whole line up in 2018 and they are much better. lighter and better balanced. (they must have listened) I have 2 of them and like them a lot (MBR903c and JWR892S) I would go E6X for a few reasons: 1. I like full cork (Victory rods use EVA foam) 2. I like the exposed blank on the baitcasting models (Victory does not have this) 3. as previously mentioned there so many models with awesome tapers and lengths available.

Mono for Crankbaits?
another vote for 12 pound Sufix Siege for all moving baits on my baitcasting rig. for lighter stuff I use 10 pound Sufix Siege on my spinning rig

Want to try a "different" line...
yeah before our kid i used to go a couple times a week out fishing. after our daughter was born i still (to this day, she is 8 now) try to get out once per week. but for me its usually an evening thing. I don't own a boat so i shore fish from my favorite spots usually on Sunday Evenings.

Want to try a "different" line...
so if its a shimano 4000 spinning reel it holds 160 yards of 12 pound mono. back in the early 90s I used to use this size reel with mono before i learned baitcasting reels. It actually fishes very well. Not sure I would go much above 12 or 14 pound mono though. if you put braid it will hold a ton LOL

Want to try a "different" line...
i like Sufix Siege mono, i have tried braid and was not a fan (got wind knots on spinning gear. I use 12 pound Siege on my baitcasting rig and 10 on my spinning rig. with a palomar knot you cant break the stuff and it handles very well

Waterproof Baitcaster?
oh yeah and I'm always envious of the fishing in the States as at least in New York and I think Florida you can fish for bass during the spawn. Up here where I am in Ontario you can't even fart during the spawn never mind fishing during it.

Waterproof Baitcaster?

Why are bass rods short?
the last few years ive slowly been upgrading my bass/pike rods to longer rods. back in the 90s i used a 6'6 baitcasting rod. Now I use a 7'6. My last spinning rod purchase was a 7'5 E6X. as a shoreline angler, i love and need the extra distance in my casting. and you can really notice the difference with the 7'5 and 7'6 rods versus the old 'standard' 6'6 my muskie rod is 8 foot

New Guy Stradic 3000 Mono Capacity Tonight
ya for a 3000 shimano 8 or 10 pound mono works very well. for 12 you should step up to the 4000 size. its rated for that.

any other Trilene knot users for mono/fluoro?
i used to use the Trilene knot, but i was getting problems with it slipping and breaking when using modern slick mono lines like Sufix Siege and Sufix elite. I couldn't figure out why Siege was breaking easily when everyone said how strong it was. I switched to the palomar knot and now I can't break the stuff. I've bent thin hooks on a #2 mepps with 6 pound Siege. So the trilene may not work for you with slick lines. A possible fix might be to give it a few extra wraps???

Line for lipless and medium cranks
i like 12 pound Sufix Siege mono

Can 30lb Braid Cast Farther Than 8 lb (Mono/Fluoro)
braid may be small diameter but it has more friction as it passes through the guide rings than mono does. probably why it may not cast as far.
-
I'm confused
there is also no law that says you have to use braid in the first place. I still like a good quality mono like Sufix Siege.
