Using Electrical Tape Instead of Tying Knot onto Spool
just tie the knot, electrical tape is for losers. now fight me

Improved clinch knot issue
can you switch to a palomar knot? I was having problems with the improved clinch knot slipping with slick monofilament lines like Sufix siege and elite but once i switched to the palomar i can't break it.

What's new in fishing lines
Sufix Siege is still the best mono out there, its limp enough to use on both casting and spinning, yet as strong as Big Game (which is much more stiff). With a palomar knot its very hard to break. awesome stuff

My G-Loomis Conquest 905C Is Here
fantastic! the only issue is your baitcaster has the handle on the wrong side

G Loomis 892s JWR applications?? (besides JWR)
I have the same rod with a Stradic 3000 and i use it for everything up to around 1/2 oz or so. Anything more i use my baitcasting rig. you will like the 892S its a great rod. Casts a mile cause of the extra length. I use mono on my rig and I use 10 pound test.

What color is your line?
I use Sufix Siege mono in Smoke Green color

Travel rods or check rod tube
for me, what i've done is invested in 2 very good 3 piece travel rods, i have two of the G. Loomis Escape ones. They are amazing and come in a rod sock and hard pvc rod tube that fits into a large size suitcase (on the diagonal). I have fished in both salt and freshwater with them. They are pricey but fish very well and are well made. They are still nothing when compared to the cost of a trip.

What is your favorite monofilament line?
Same here. i love Sufix Siege its amazing. I also use the 4 and 6 on my UL and L rods and I've even been using 20 on my musky rig (but i have yet to catch a musky)

New St Croix rod
agreed but it has to be about cost cutting. I was initially very excited about the blank but then they cut a lot of corners in making the final build (not full cork -using EVA foam to finish it off and then a non blank exposed reel seat) of course you will still catch fish on them but it could have been better.

New St Croix rod
I still cant believe the lack of an exposed blank on the baitcasting reel seats. who does that anymore????

Bass rods for salt water fishing - Suggestions?
Well, In that case I would look at the Loomis E6X inshore models. I'm a Loomis guy and the tapers are awesome.
-
New St Croix rod
yeah i didn't notice this at first but every baitcasting rod I have owned (all Loomis ones) have had an exposed rod blank under the reel seat. I think not having one would probably drive me crazy lol

Switching to mono
another vote for Sufix Siege in smoke green. love the stuff. with a palomar knot you can't break it. I use 10 on my 3000 size shimano spinning rig and 12 on my baitcasting rig.
-
New St Croix rod
yes i think you are correct!
-
New St Croix rod
ok but the victory rod in the pic above has full cork at the foregrip. Thats what i was referring to. maybe just a prototype??
-
New St Croix rod
whoa i see that rod above has no EVA foam!! i love full cork! does this mean that future models may be full cork?

Bass rods for salt water fishing - Suggestions?
well, I have the St. Croix Premier 8 foot MH musky rod and its rated for lures 1-3 oz, I have it paired with a tranx 400A. Its a light enough combo i can cast it all day although its still much heavier than any bass combo. the reel is 12 oz alone i think. How large of a saltwater fish are you targeting?

New St Croix rod
As a huge fan of the Avid blank, I'm pleased with the fact that these are built on essentially an upgraded/improved Avid blank. However, i wish they were all cork instead of EVA foam on the foregrip. Looking forward to some longer models too with the full release. We need some 7'6 models, something the original Avid line is deeply missing (at least in casting models)

What’s the last rod/reel you purchased that you ended up regretting?
I've been lucky. I usually do months of research and farting around at tackle shops before i pull the trigger on a new rod or reel so I haven't regretting anything. Everything I have i have loved as i hoped i would. the only thing I have done over the last few years is upgrade my rods to longer ones. I like 7'5 and 7'7 rods where possible. When i started back in the 90s the 6'6 rod was everyone's favorite. I fish from shore so i found i benefitted from the extra casting distance, and it definitely is noticeable.

New St Croix rod
I've never been able to pull the trigger on a Mojo because of the purple color. i just cant do it lol

Loomis JWR 892S - for Ned Rigs?
Thanks, what weight jig head did you use? did you have to go heavier than normal to load up the rod?
