  1. i use palomar all the time, its the easiest and seems to be the strongest.
  2. ive never done it that way. I leave the internal brakes as is, almost never touch them ever. Eg. with a shimano tranx i have 2 engaged and 4 off. However, when first learning your son may want to have 50% engaged. everything is done via the spool tension knob.
  3. i have bent the hook on a #3 Mepps Black Fury unsnagging it using 6 pound Sufix Siege Mono tied with a palomar knot. with a proper knot, you will shouldn't break off using 6, 8 10 etc. you might pull the hook out though.
  4. If I'm fishing the next morning, i re-tie everything the night before. If I'm fishing in the evening, i'll retie everything usually mid morning or afternoon.
  5. i found i like longer rods, and have slowly been converting my rods over to 7'6 and 7'5 lengths where i can, my musky rod is 8 feet. mind you, i fish from shore so maximum distance really helps.
  6. i was under the impression that the Avid and newly design mojo were not the same rod blank at all. they both contain the SCIII carbon but not the same blank??
  7. another thing to consider is the guides on the regular avid are Fuji Alconite and the ones on the avid X are Aluminum Oxide. They quietly snuck in cheaper guides on the Avid X
  8. i carry two rods with me all the time. one is a 7'6 MH G. Loomis E6X MBR903C with curado 200i and 12 pound test mono the other is actually a spinning rod, Loomis JWR892S with stradic 3000FK with 10 pound mono. I use the spinning rod for lighter stuff and the baitcaster for heavier presentations. I can cover all bases with these two setups. might be an option to consider as opposed to two baitcasting setups.
  9. Im curious as to how this plays out. I have the Tranx 400A that I use for musky casting and i have to say it is amazing. super smooth, powerful with a super strong beefy drag. Hopefully this new curado 300 won't be a watered down version. If it is, it won't be worth the money, anglers might just spend the extra and opt for the Tranx 300 instead.
  10. i think both it and the stradic Ci4+ that came before both outclass the ballistic because the ballistic does not have a ball bearing in the line roller. Daiwa used to lead the pack when it came to line twist mitigation but i dont think thats true anymore because a lot of their reels don't have bearings in the line rollers anymore.
  11. the name sounds like something from Game of Thrones lol and I do agree ,the porting on the side of the spool of the CI4+ stradic looked 1000x better.
  12. i hear they are releasing a T wing reel. thats just a T wing. nothing else.
  13. i heard the name might be NRX Plus
  14. i have the MBR903c E6X and love it. its the 7'6 version.
  15. for it would be 10 pound Sufix Siege on spinning and 12 on baitcasting
  16. i have two: Spinning rod: E6X JWR892S with Stradic FK 3000 spooled with 10 pound sufix siege Baitcasting rod: E6X MBR903c with Curado 200i PG spooled with 12 pound Sufix Siege. I bring these two setups with me where ever I go.
  17. this post is 5 years old, i hope the person is not still struggling to close the side plate. back off the brake dial, it pushes out the brake drum which prevents the sideplate from closing.
  18. I do. I fell in love with Sufix Siege mono and now use it on all my setups. I use 4 and 6 on my UL and L setups I use 10 on spinning gear and 12 on my baitcasting setup. I like it so much that Im probably going to buck the musky trend of using braid and use 20 pound mono on my new Tranx 400 reel.
  19. back off on the brake dial? I thought when you increase that setting it pushes out the brake drum and thats what causes the sideplate not to go back on. at least that whats the curado 200i was like and I believe its the same design.
  20. Sufix Siege guy here. I use it for everything
  21. i like longer rods, my two main rods that i use for almost everything are 7'6 baitcasting and 7'5 spinning. i dont own a boat so i am shore and pier fishing and I do notice a longer cast with these rods since I upgraded from a 7 footer.
  22. ahhh but the GLX is not offered in a 7'6 MBR the conquest is however..
  23. I would give my left nut for an IMX Pro MBR 903c
  24. Have you tried Sufix Siege? i have been using 4, 6 and 10 on my spinning reels for a few years now and love it. its strong and abrasion resistant like Big Game but handles much better. I use it on both my spinning and casting gear.
