  1. When I first learned to use a baitcaster I took a rat l trap, took the hooks off and went and practiced at a local park. Are you able to practice when you aren't on the water? after a while, you will only backlash when you hit a tree. For cast control on shimano reels, I set the brakes to 2 on 2 off, and never touch them again.. I use the cast control knob only. You want it to slowly fall to the ground when you press it in.
  2. Why didn't the red gold and black imx rods do well? They weren't around for very long before being upgraded to the imx pro rods which are quite popular. What happened?
  3. I have the G. Loomis IMX Pro MBR 903c 7'6 MH casting rod and its amazing So is the IMX Pro SJR 901s 7'6 Light spinning rod that I also have. they are worth a look if you are in the market for a new rod.
  4. agreed. The imx pro rods are sharp. the green glows in the sunlight and looks smart against the black of the blank. I also don't like the robins egg blue of the NRX. I love the look of both the imx pro rods and the new GLX rods. Up here in Canada, the imx pro's are $580 now and the GLX are 780 or so. I have two imx pro rods that I love (The SJR 901s and the MBR 903c) but I'd give my pecker away to be able to fish the next level up (the new GLXs lol) Excellent review!
  5. my Imx Pro SJR 901S and Stradic 1000 rigged up with 6 pound Sufix Siege and a 1/4 oz little cleo for trout!
  6. ok so i just noticed that the new 2025 nasci reels have this now. So its a worm gear reel now too?
  7. So I understand that in Shimano spinning reels from the Ultegra and up have worm gear oscillation that results in better line lay. You can see it in action if you look at a spool on stradic or vanford vs say a nasci. But what does Shimano call this feature? Is this what they used to call Aerowrap 2?
  8. I have the G. Loomis imx pro SJR 901S which is a 7'6 light powered rod that is awesome for all things small. It is light powered by label but it has the same specs as the 901S in the NRX line which is labelled ML. go figure lol
  9. I've tried to have any rod I purchase have at least Fuji Alconites. They cast smooth and are durable. The only guide ring I have ever had crack was a sic one off of a Fenwick CoFi 57 rod from the late 90s.
  10. d**n. that sucks. I've ordered a few Loomis rods from them over the years up here to Canada because I couldn't get them anywhere else. They had just about every Loomis rod made in stock.
  11. ya so way back in the late 90s and early 2000s anglers who river fished often had stradics and symmetres bind up when wet. So much that people called them Shimbindos. The problem was water would get to the friction ring gasket that was designed to stop the forward motion of the handle from moving when casting and engaging the bail. there were many other supposed reasons for this but I believe this was the correct one because I had an old symmetre reel bind up (not when wet though) and the friction ring had fragmented and caused the reel to stick. I don't believe this problem still exists with any of their current spinning line up. I also echo the choice of stradic above. I picked up a Stradic 1000 FM this year and it has been amazing. Long smooth casting and cranking with a very smooth drag. And perfect line lay. Well worth the money.
  12. ya the store I go to will do no tax for me when I get an imx pro or my latest purchase was a stradic that I got for $289 Can. no tax. Not a bad deal considering they are now up to I think $330 plus tax.
  13. 8 pound Sufix Siege. as strong as Big Game but casts and and handles way better
  14. Never leave home without them
  15. I know but I still want one lol the NRX's are $980 and the Conquest $1200 up here
  16. Agreed! I'm in Ontario and they are $540 up here, our dollar SUCKS lol I would give my pecker away to be able to fish with the next level up, but as you know the GLX's are $800+ up here
  17. Awesome! I have the slightly longer IMX Pro SJR 901 and I love it.
  18. so did I until I tried the same rod in a 7'6 version many years later. The extra casting distance is quite a bit.
  19. I picked up a stradic FM this year (1000) size and it's been awesome so far.
  20. the imx pro crankbait rods are supposed to be the bomb.
  21. Do you know how this might compare to Sufix Siege? I've been using Siege for a long time now and love it. But I haven't tried the Advance
  22. For me, it's my two G. Loomis Imx Pro/Shimano combos that I use for 90 percent of my fishing. Imx Pro SJR 901S with a Stradic 1000 FM Imx Pro MBR 903c with a Curado 200i.
  23. try switching to Sufix Siege and never look back.
  24. I would think the imx pro JWR 892S would be very close. Its the same taper and power just 2 inches longer? It might even be a better rod as the imx pro graphite is probably a step up from the blended graphite of the bronzeback rods
