  1. Reports of some snow in downtown but I'm in west knoxville right now and it's still dry. Most accumulation is south of us, go figure
  2. For fast current and water under 40 degrees just try again and hope for the best. If you are fishing still water you have much better odds. Suspending jerkbait with extra long pauses and then some even longer is good for cold water. Leave it sitting still on a slack line and pay attention, they will hit it surprisingly hard. Small hair jigs and tiny tube jigs work good for smallmouth
  3. I was about to buy a new phone!! Glad it wasn't just me
  4. Food is just fishing fuel!!!
  5. The game wardens here are only supposed to work 37.5 hrs a week. I graduated college with 7 of them
  6. A bowfin is not a snakehead. Only kill it if you're gonna eat it
  7. I got my degree in wildlife/fisheries management. I do wildlife damage control for a living during the week and work as a fishing guide at a fancy resort in weekends. Like @WDE just said, all of my actual "fishing" is done when I'm off work. Even a fishing guide doesn't fish hardly at all while working, it's more like adult baby sitting
  8. Lucky for me, 99% of the time I don't have to drive on snowy roads anywhere! But I did finally get 4 wheel drive in 2012 so I dabble sometimes
  9. I work with a guy from michigan that won't drive in snow down here, he says the X factor is the curvy roads going up and down hill
  10. Oh yea, cars pile up everywhere like crazy! If you aren't in need of medical attention they don't even respond to the accident. My boss always says just stay put until after lunch and sometimes he just says wait until tomorrow.
  11. I like snow!! Fun to track things and listen to silence. And it also grinds the rat race to a screeching halt in the south!!! Unexpected days off are always fun
  12. Grew up in maryville, tn, which is a suburb of knoxville. Our house was in somewhat of a neighborhood in the woods so I would say I experienced suburban/forested upbringing. I now live in knoxville just south of downtown, only 1.5 miles from two different boat ramps.......... I actually prefer living in knoxville because it's closer to the water
  13. Nobody hates bama more than me outside of the town of auburn but bama didn't lose to Iowa by 31. They also lost one less game than Ohio st and although their non conference schedule appears weak now, don't forget Florida st was a top 5 team when they played. In fact when that game was scheduled, I would guess that Florida st was defending national champions. I will always be of the opinion that you might as well play as many hard games as you can, i would be much more proud of a national championship against a tough schedule than a national championship against a schedule like Wisconsin played this season.
  14. I think after reading this it occurs to me why I have much better success in winter than any other season. I'm guessing I just fish really slow
  15. Rattletrap Alabama rig and suspending jerk bait. I use a Texas rig no matter what the weather is but I don't weigh in 25+ pound bags like everyone else
  16. Boat: Flip flops until Halloween, insulated boots until April. Walking/wading : old tennis shoes
  17. I have only done it with striped bass but it should work with a spotted bass. A smaller fish might fall apart when boiled though, so you might try to get a spot at least 1.5 pounds. Any smaller than that and spots are great deep fried. The boiling tactic seems better for big thick flaky chunks, Striper is even better boiled in water with old bay seasoning and dipped in melted butter
  18. Boiling fish in 7up in indeed delicious
  19. I don't think they would take a 2 loss team that wasn't a conference champ. Wisconsin is a 1 loss team that's not a conference champ. Also southern cal has 2 losses and IS conference champ
  20. Well if auburn would have sat at home they would have sat there with 2 losses and missed the playoff anyway. Only way in for them was to beat Georgia in the championship
  21. Tennessee is in the mix for les miles now. The previous administration wouldn't entertain the idea but they were basically overthrown and the athletic director was fired. So now Fulmer is the new AD and he is interested in les miles. National media has been making fun of Tennessee but they have no clue what all we have gone through over the last decade. Crappy administration has pushed crappy coaches on us since 2008. When they announced schiano (another crappy coach) would be hired, the fans literally revolted. To an outsider it looks horrible but to us, our voices are finally being heard. The previous admin that sucked so bad was who fired Fulmer in the first place, now Fulmer athletic director. "Back by popular demand"
  22. This one has no warm water discharge, warm water is a big no no on the Tennessee river after several accidents. It did have a few dozen vultures flying in circles in the exhaust.
  23. My best fishing success is usually from October-march. But I go all year anyhow, I've got the fishing fever real bad. The week between Christmas and new years is DY-NO-MITE! The fish get predictable when the water gets cold
  24. all we ask in return is let us know when you find a big school of hungry bass!!!!
