  1. That happens to me a lot when fishing cold weather. Never amounted to anything, I still refuse to use gloves
  2. It all depends on what kind of area you will be throwing the net and what species of bait you are going after. 1/4" mesh is better for shiners but costs more. 3/8" mesh is good for threadfin gizzard and alewives. I catch shiners in small creeks and rivers and that will shred your net. Also I catch shad below dams and always lose a net or two per year. So don't throw expensive nets unless you are in open water. The best way to find shad is to watch for them flipping on the surface. The next best way is to locate them with a depth finder. As far as drawing them in, most people use a light on a boat dock and net them after dark
  3. I don't think I have ever read a better post. And believe me I have read a lot of them
  4. I didn't look to see if someone had already posted this, but I heard tale of a massive Asian carp kill on Kentucky lake. Can I claim that I killed them all and still get that $1 million reward? Ha ha ha ha
  5. That's some wild action!!! I don't suppose I have ever had a day that good, and I fish more than most. Thanks for the post and pictures
  6. Looks like a ky spot to me
  7. Sounds like the OP was fishing the Tennessee river......... I get cut off by bass boats almost every single time I go fishing, which is several times a week. I know that a lot of kids nowadays are jerks but the people that cut me off are generally older guys that can afford bass boats with power poles. So saying that kids nowadays have no respect is not necessarily the problem in my neck of the woods
  8. "Give him six!!" - John Ward legendary Tennessee football radio man
  9. What about foot protectors? Or are those called shoes?
  10. I wonder if blue man group fly fishes
  11. Why not just buy a long sleeve shirt?? I'm all for blocking uv rays but why wear short sleeves + arm protectors as opposed to a long sleeve shirt???
  12. Got this in my email today. Combine a short sleeve shirt and an arm covering accessory. You have got to be kidding...........
  13. The ramps up toward watts bar dam are less crowded. The crazy ones are wolftever (hwy 58) Harrison bay state park and Chester frost. There are some not so busy ones on the lower end, like maybe skull island. As far as fishing, everything I'm reading is rattle trap jerkbait and umbrella rig. YouTube has a lot of good chickamauga videos lately. It's Most crowded place I've ever fished so bring your patience with you. Parksville is supposedly awesome for jumbo spotted bass
  14. @JustJames cracking me up with the 3 titles of this thread today Hahahaha. I'm fairly new to the site and didn't know what a crazy can of worms this was
  15. They will annihilate a frog also
  16. Or stop when they reach a 5 fish limit
  17. Rivers and lakes are all one and the same in my neck of the woods. Only one natural lake in the entire state of Tennessee and that's reelfoot
  18. I wonder if Osprey, bald eagle, river otter, Blue heron, and other bass ponder this moral dilemma. I think to claim that fishing with a rod and reel has a significant impact on bass population dynamics is flattering ourselves
  19. Depends on whether I have a craving for caviar........... just kidding, I don't bed fish because it's not nearly as fun (for me) as just regular ole fishing. I have done it before but I'm not big on trying to catch the same fish (that I can see) for 30 minutes or more
  20. Nice bucketmouths, isn't it fun when they hit that plug while it's sitting still????
  21. Anywhere but guntersville. I know it's legendary but I haven't encountered anything except 10,000 bass boats, 99% of which with all frowns on their faces
  22. I'd rather fish smallies in 46 degree water than anything in the world
  23. I use both tactics here in East Tennessee and I have more luck with tightlining (cast and pendulum) but a lot of folks catch a lot more and bigger fish than me without casting (damiki). I really just never mark any fish so I cast at the banks, but it works very well. Gulp minnow and 1/8 oz jig head is all you need, and I don't use 4 lb test. That's just asking for it with all the zebra mussels
  24. We got all kinds of them around my neck of the woods. Stonerollers, creek chub, and river chub all have tubercles (knots) on their heads and will catch all the fish in the river
  25. Not sure if it applies in the north country but september is the best month for big smallmouth (for me) down here in Tennessee, and a lot of times it is also the hottest month. Days start getting short and bass feed heavy, but the water is still hot enough for their metabolism to be cranking wide open
