I started to reply after reading the OP but then I read indianafinesse's replies and you can't get much better advice than that. My favorite way to fish a drop shot for winter smallmouth is to throw one overboard and set that rod down. Then cast something else on another rod and watch the drop shot rod laying on the deck while you fish. It eventually catches some, just don't forget about it when you go to free your hung lure that you are casting. That always ends up in pulling fishing line out of the trolling motor prop

Well it's a screenshot of ft loudoun lake, the first reservoir on the Tennessee river proper (furthest upstream). It is a "lake" with good current though

Thanks, ish creek is definitely an extremely popular spot to see bass boats (and crappie). I see people posted up where the creek goes into the river all the time, maybe they are fishing the obvious as opposed to the hidden gems

Nice fish, way to tough it out. I wish we had power plant lakes! TVA has some steam plants that used to discharge hot water but I think after a few ash spills they only discharge luke warm water in fairly small amounts

Canyons going into a river channel........ do you think those would hold big fish year round? I know where a bunch of those are. I fish them some but probably not enough. As you can see on the maps there are plenty to choose from

Folks around here think if you kill a bass there will never be another one. I wish they would take a trip to Mexico and witness the resource renewing itself. I get tired of being harassed for eating bass. This is the only fishing forum I have ever found where people don't totally frown on keeping bass. i would venture that some of the harvest in Mexico actually contributes to the excellent population dynamics of the largemouth
