Did a trout trip up in the mtns with my wife and a friend yesterday, think we got 8-9 rainbows. It was pretty with some leftover snow from Monday. The 3 that I caught were with 3 different rods/reels . 2 on flies (one rubber legs, one egg pattern) and one with a helgrammite in-line spinner

How cold is TOO cold to fish?
Went in the snow yesterday but I think it was above freezing by the time we got way up in the mtns . There were icicles, but it was warm in waders and the trout were biting

I wish makers did a better job marking their lures
For $1.50/hour you’d really expect a hologram autograph on there……

How cold is TOO cold to fish?
I totally forgot. The coldest I’ve been is always when it’s like 36 degrees and pouring rain. I’ll take snow or wind over that any day. That cold heavy rain is terrible. We refer to it as “Knoxville snow”

How cold is TOO cold to fish?
The boat is colder than the waders 100%

How cold is TOO cold to fish?
Wind is the main factor. Below 28 I don’t mess with it, mainly because it freezes the line in the eyelets

@softwateronly, that spoon isn’t even fair to the fish! I thought it was a live gizzard at first glance

Winter 2025 ~ 2026
I also have Tuesday off and it’s 23 degree low….. sounds like the wife is dragging me fly fishing so I can at least have a flask of warm scotch in my waders

Got out for a bit this morning, caught a LMB under a dock with a jig my buddy tied. I only used the kayak because I had two hours free time and the wind was blowing bad on the main lake , not so bad near the dock. The trees, especially hickories by the dock, were showing off This marked my 8th day in a row doing at least some fishing (there were a couple skunks involved). Short days are good and bad, good because I can be somewhere after fishing by 7 pm but bad because I want to fish longer

Fished with one buddy above a dam yesterday morning and he got two largemouth, I got nothing. He had to leave by 1 o’clock so I met another buddy down below the dam for the afternoon. We both got a LMB or two early then it went slow for a bit. I felt something weird on my line, turned out to be a 22” walleye! Hello frying pan. After that I got a nice SMB that was being chased by an absolute monster SMB. The one I caught was a fat 18” and the chaser completely dwarfed it, I’ll be seeing that in my dreams for a while. Also saw a float plane out enjoying the fall foliage. Water temp still 65ish
