Fishing flats: when, why, and how?
I guess I’m a little different, I don’t necessarily fish a feature on a flat. The fish push the bait up onto and all over the flat most of the time. When they aren’t running the shad I fish the drop off . When they are running shad they seem to be all over a featureless area raising cane attacking shad. In fast water it seems timing is more important than a ditch or log. If they are feeding I just burn a trap all over it. I would focus more on the ends and ditches when they are resting with a jig or worm. Here’s what most of ours look like and you can see the shad in tight wads freaking out and bass flying through the air frequently . It’s exciting and maddening all at the same time .

Water level has risen heavily can't get a bite
I’ll be fishing it July 19,I’ve got to pick up some friends that are hiking the smokies, apparently the old man that used to run the ferry passed away

Manually closing spinning reel bail
I always manually close it, prevents the loops and is easier on the gears/springs

MLF-Sturgeon Bay
Sounds fun to me!!! What do they do if there are thunderstorms on such a big body of water?? I watched a storm roll across Lake Michigan from the safety of dry land and I was still scared

Water level has risen heavily can't get a bite
They follow the rising water where I live. Then when it recedes they follow it again

Gotcha. I was watching some guys catch them off beds on YouTube out of Lake Michigan recently but I guess it was either a) filmed weeks ago b) way north of sturgeon bay or c) both

towing a boat 2018 subaru outback
It’s definitely not ideal but without an engine, I’m guessing the boat would be pretty light.

My mom has the outback with 6 cylinders, it feels like it would yank a stump out of the ground. I’m guessing your is a 4 cylinder?

Giving props to our southern anglers!
Come on down! Haha. There are colder rivers just to the north, east, and south full of trout as well. Dams can do magical things....... as you might imagine the air is plenty warm, it’s the water coming from the bottom of deep lakes that is cold

Weird music
Hank 3 is pretty weird! But I listen to several of his songs

The water never gets much above 75 in downtown Knoxville, it’s still in the upper 60s right now. Down the lake it gets to 85 some years but near my house it’s always cold
