When I was there it seemed like fishing the current breaks in the first few miles below Wilson dam was the thing to do. Granted, we failed miserably, but that’s what everyone said to fish and it’s where everyone was fishing. Tons of eddies, pockets, barge tie-ups, islands, bridge posts, etc. I’ve also heard tale of people fishing the lower end with deeper presentations in cleaner water. On other TN river lakes in winter , I like to fish the creek mouths along current seams And bluff walls. Someone will always be catching lots of fish with red crankbaits during the winter, I’m guessing you’ll see a lot of folks slinging them at the bass master classic this weekend

Unfortunately these boaters are either rotating in the keeper hole, pinned somewhere, or headed to the gulf. The word "lake" is not like what you imagine in Tennessee, it's all a river and it moves really fast in winter

Yes that’s Loudon right below the dam. It’s way wider above the dam! Haha. The current is ripping right now but it’s been rainy recently. When it’s dry the current is off and on.

I catch a lot of river smallies in the dead center of the river. People think I’m crazy not casting to shore. You’re right though, it’s almost always summer when it happens. I try it year round

My initial guess is nothing but I’ve never looked at them side by side. I’ve also never noticed they have different spelling but now that you mention it, I’ve had several of each over the years

I agree with @Bluebasser86, it’s hard to catch a bass that you are looking at. If you see them, it’s over, move on. If the only thing in the pond is bass and gills, I’d fish with a live gill
