  1. Leaders for anything that touches the bottom. Strait braid for everything else All line is not created equal
  2. This morning I was fishing a popper from the back of the boat when I tried to set hard 20 ft from the boat.....in doing so, I missed and the lure flew to the front of the boat hooking my buddy just above the temple. He wasn't wearing glasses as it was just sun up.. 2 more inches and and we would be calling him cyclops! I was able to remove it, but haven't been so scared in years. He laughed about it on the way home, but did just buy some low light glasses Stay safe boys!
  3. Like the others have stated...a huge surface hit and setting the hook on a fish that just smiles and says " game on" are up there.. The most exciting experience is when you get hit feet front pulling the lure out of the water......shocks the snot out of me.. Last week while fast retrieving a popper, a 3 pounder took it as it was leaving the water and splash make it in he boat. Earlier that same day a deep diving CB got hit a foot from the surface when I looking elsewhere......almost ticked myself
  4. 99% of the time, I throw a top water regardless of the time of year. It may be a rat, WP, or popper. My buddies are shocked to see how successful the first cast can be. I always have a wacky rig next to my CB rod This time of the year I am fishing drop off's and flats near the thermocline.
  5. Armilo, a tad more expensive, but if I was going mono, that's at the top of the list
  6. I can't speak to the rod, but the crronarch MGL at 7:1 is an awesome setup and very user friendly. I am getting 2 more this winter
  7. I use the decoy egg and tactical snaps and like them a lot........this kvd just has me curious
  8. Anyone use these? A friend just gave me a couple to try. It is the first I have seen them http://www.*.com/Mustad-KVD-Fastach-Clip-p/mustad-ftclps.htm
  9. I run 10 lb on all my spinning reels, and a couple baitcasters that throw soft plastics. I have never had a problem. I don't throw to the salad, so my strongest braid is 20. Many here will suggest 10 for spinning and 30 for casters.....50 for flipping. What ever works for you is fine.
  10. Any time I have a chance to toss a hook is a good time, even if I get Skunked. There is usually some take away that helps me in the future. ......and you can also only watch the re-run of mash any time. That said, if it is Boston Legal, that's different
  11. Semper-Fi Alway glad to welcome a brother. I spend time in Loveland, Copper, Silverthorne, a couple times a yr.
  12. Why not? Give it a shot....worst case it doesn't work and you spend what you would pay for a cup of coffee
  13. 10 pound 832 as it is less boyant with FC leader
  14. I find that change to be favorable but that is unlikely to change the thermocline much. I would fish it as you would normally thinking suspended fish might be a couple feet higher. I don't thing that changes how fish related to docks. It might also make the fish a little more active as the bait fish will be higher in the water column. We are in the same situation and Texas and wacky have been crushing it, with the larger ones crushing CB. Our larger ones are on dock, grass and timber on flats.
  15. Something about a bald eagle being in captivity seems wrong, but this was unable to live on his own...
  16. Stainless can be a tough fix and being out of balance can raise he'll on your low end. Aluminum is far easier to fix
  17. If you don't mind me asking, why the departure from CB? I know there are many ways to skin a cat......but curious minds......
  18. I think you have to keep your expectations in check. The boats are unlikely to give you 25 to 30 yrs, but given the price it isn't bad. If you are looking for longevity, you have to look at the lunds and alike. Good luck. Shopping is always fun!
  19. I have become a big believer in this ^. And it explains my success this summer with the WP 110, wackyrig and CB/JB. Makes perfect sense. I plan to approach the Fall this way
  20. If you are on a budget 832 braid is a good compromise as it is not as boyant as other braids and can be used with plastics with the addition of a leader
  21. I have never seen any damage and it is exactly what I do.....I just don't get it down to the reel
  22. I see a couple on my lake and the guys do GREAT!
  23. The 110 has out performed the other 2 sizes by a huge margin!
  24. Finally got my fishing partner back. Son pulled out 8 this morning after a few years hiatus
