Anyone have advice for a newbie?
Great advise from some knowledgeable guys. new guys get all wrapped up in bait/lures. Many moons ago, when learning to play golf, my father would make me play with using 1 or 2 clubs and a putter. I guickly learned what every iron and wood could do. it too me a summer, but at the end of the summer, I had a great grasp of the equipment. the same can be said for fishing. Learn the teqniques, hook sets, difference in rigs, knots. Then the tools will come to you and you won have bait that you will never learned. Last summer, my daughter fished senkos, wacky and Texas.....and a couple top waters ( rats). she got good d**n fast and set a hook better than her peers who have been at it for yrs. have fun......it's the journey

Swimbait Rod?
I have a GL swimbait rod and also use it for flipping, pitching, big surface and deep swimmers. Heck I have used it for large spinners. that said I use braid and swap out leaders

Fluorocarbon For Spinnerbaits
I am really surprised to see some of the problems with braid, that I have never witnessed. i am running 20# with 10-15 lb mono or fc leader, and never lost a bait on the cast. This year I am converting all rigs to braid with various leaders and calling it a day. i am not a professional and don't think a minor difference will change my life.

line question
I would go with the leader.....if you get hung up, it is far easier to break off the leader

Braid on Spinning Reels
300 yards is more than enough, especially since you should back the braid with Mono. the few times I have seen a fish take more than 150 yrs, they got spooled! 300 of 10 lb is enough to spool it twice, thus lasting 4-5 yrs

FG knot weakening
I have gotten into the habit of tying the FG when on land and the Alberto when on the water. when finished properly, the FG is hard to beat and worth mastering. Instead of half hitches at the end, my buddy makes a small ( 5 wrap) uni

How many setups do I need?
My daughter ( a bit older) just went through the same situation. this year Med/ xf spinning set up and MH/ F jig rod this will give her a summer to see what technique she really enjoy and also keeps the purchase of baits to a minimum.

Smackdown question
Howdy folks The school down the road from me just started a fishing club 8 identical jig rods with the same baitcaster. The only difference is that all the rods have different 30 lb braid. This weeks goal is to rate the different braids and so far those that have tried the one with smackdown really give it high marks. In the product discrimination it says it has a coating to help with digging into the spool. Has anyone here experienced this and does it wear off? The 2 that gets the highest marks will be what is purchased going forward. Aditionally, initial comments had 832 sinking faster than expected........I find this odd since some other bands have smaller diameters Thanks in advance Al

Braid on Spinning Reels
Wow, if this is for inland fishing, you could easily get away with 10 lb, I have smackdown on and it is performing wonderfully. on my 4000 series, 20 lb 832 is getting the call

Steez SV 6.3 or 8.1?
I have a natural slow hand so I enjoy my 8, but if I was looking for something universal the 6 or 7 would get the call

G.Loomis GLX 803 or 804
The GLX can comfortably throw weights 1/4 ounce above the rating. I have a few and always reach for the lower rated one. while a trailer does add weight to the lure, I always go by the lure weight.

Why does premium braid loose color

Why does premium braid loose color
Folks, After weeks of reading about premium braids, I see that in many of the reviews that one of the most common complaint is that they loose color or fade quickly.......most say it is bad enough to change their mind, but I wonder why this is mentioned the most with the upper tier. Any insight is appropriate, Al

Need help With Baitcasting
Can't imagine saying anything that hasn't been said, but I was in your boat not to long ago. The video available on youtube are invaluable. What I went back to 1. Dial in your lure. 2. Never let you elbow leave your side 3. Start side arm 4 use only your wrist 5. Cast short distances until you can drop it in a bucket at will, before adding distance. Practice, practice, practice Look on the positive side, you are getting great experience on getting out bird nest!

How heavy should I go
In central NH, you really have to look hard to find heavy salad, so 50 would be fine, that said, I doubt I would ever see the need for 65. 50 is freaking rope!

7' Hvy vs 7'6 MH
I am with Roger on this. That said, given your parameters, I would look for a 7' MH/F.

Line wraps around behind the spool
Like others have said.....flipping the bail by hand solves most of the problems on spinning gear. getting the twist out also helps.
