Thankfully we don’t have hurricanes up here and tornadoes which can produce those type of winds albeit not sustained for long periods of time are very rare.

Here in Michigan the towers like you’re referring to and the ones like @Catt posted are transmission lines. Transmission lines come from the power plant and usually to go a substation where the voltage is dropped down to a distribution level and from the substation they go to feed houses and so on. The transmission towers here are huge and like you said those puppies aren’t coming down. It’s quite possible what you’re referring to are distribution lines and if that’s the case you guys are very fortunate. 27 years without losing power is awesome!

They have redundancy which is always nice to have. We build our fiber optic infrastructure with redundancy.

Along power lines there’s usually what’s called a utility easement and that’s typically 20-40’ on Esther side of the power lines so the utility company can’t do anything beyond that which means they can trim the branches but can’t cut down the trees. In some case they can cut down the tree depending on the health of the tree. Still, that means the majority of the trees are safe from being cut down which means a good storm could still bring that tree down and the power lines underneath it which means power outage to hundreds or thousands of people.

People get a false sense of reality by having buried power lines. At some point they go from aerial to underground. The only way you’re going to have any sense of security is if you live in the plains states which we don’t. The tree trimming we have going on definitely helps but it doesn’t give us 100% security. As someone who in the underground utility business, to install underground utilities it would cost a MINIMUM of $15 per foot so that’s not an option, therefore outages will always be a part of our live to some capacity. To make matters worse, people complain about power outages so utility companies employ tree trimming companies to help with this but then you have homeowners who constantly complain about the tree trimming because it affects their privacy so it’s a lose lose situation. I’ve experienced this first hand several times over the past 15 years I’ve been doing this. Go figure!

This exact same thing happened last year. The tournament has been over for well over 12 hours and they hadn’t posted the results. Come on Bassmaster!

They were fishing 11 hours today since yesterday was canceled so, they are probably just finishing up. It might be a while before we have results.

It’s been a long winter for me too. 😁

I wish that had Basstrack for this. I remember back a few years ago watching @everythingthatswims fish in the college final live and it coming down to the weighin. A lot of on here were watching and posting. That was a lot of fun!

I’ve never had one remotely close to that! That looks pretty bad. Getting stuck from a hook never bothered me at all. When a dorsal fin gets me for whatever reason that is sore for a couple weeks and the skin around it is hard and you can see where it pierced my skin.

When I went through my chemo therapy I paid attention to the different colors they gave me. I was given a cocktail that was yellow, orange, and red. Each time I received these cocktails required a weeks stay in the hospital. Yellow, no big deal, orange, I was a little weak and lethargic, and the “red stuff” I called it, absolutely knocked me on my butt and I did nothing but sleep for about 14-16 hrs a day for about two weeks. My schedule was in a week out two. Keep in mind this was 23 years ago, my treatment was very aggressive because my cancer was very aggressive but also responded very well to treatment. Regardless of how you feel, I highly recommend you have someone go with you and sunscreen of some type is an absolute must because I’m assuming they’ll put you on steroids. I’d highly recommend someone take the fish off for you as well because your immune system is going to be highly compromised. Keep fighting and a positive mindset goes a long way.

I took a walk out on the Grand Haven pier today on my lunch. Still plenty of ice chunks to probably 600’ out. Hearing the waves move those chunks around was a pretty cool sound. No bass on beds. 😂

They can fly up to 55mph too, albeit for a very short time. And to think, that ugly bird was going to be our national bird. 😂

I’m Irish and I hate cabbage and I can’t say I’ve ever had corned beef. I was told I’m a disgrace today. 😂

I’m 5’ 10” on a good day. Both sides of my family are Irish. Interesting story, my mom’s side changed their last name when they came over here to Rogers which I’m told is English. They did that because Irish were looked down upon at the time and thought they have it a bit easier if they changed it to an English name. My mom said some of them were horse thieves so they may have changed their names but didn’t change their ways. 😁

That’s a situation I hope I’m never in. If it were me it would be extremely tough to do and I’d feel a bit guilty doing it but I’d file the reexamination report. I wouldn’t want to do it but his safety and the safety of others it ultimately what matters most.

Now that would be a cool gig!
