Bass Hunting
Proctologist around the world made them change the name because they already had it.

Quality hooks inexpensive.
I’ve used Gamakatsu for around 20 years and they’ve yet to let me down. I have no reason to try anything else.

Your career paths
I started working at the local lumberyard doing sales at the ripe old age of 14. I did that through high school along with roofing and siding. After high school I went to college for residential design. I came to an abrupt end after six weeks when I was diagnosed with cancer which turns out to be ok because I can’t see myself being stuck indoors working. After all that mess I back to the lumberyard for a bit. After that I got into HVAC. While there I did a plumbing apprenticeship until the master was fired. I loved doing plumbing and wish I would’ve went somewhere else and stuck with it. From there I did construction until the housing market crash. With a child on the way and being laid off I needed to find a consistent job so I got into the utility locating business. I worked my way up the ladder to operations manager through two companies. After 13 years and company one bought the company I left company one to go to I knew I needed to get out. I left there to go to my current job at a fast growing fiber optic internet company as an outside plant engineer overseeing the installation of underground and eventually aerial construction. This is a four year project with the option to travel after that or possibly stay for future commercial builds. I’ll say I wish I would have stayed with the plumbing gig or gotten into the utility industry sooner. I’ve enjoyed both and have learned a lot and experienced a ton of cool things in the utility business.

It's been a while.
Last I heard you were living in a van down by the river. Glad to see you at least have internet down there.

Winter 2023-2024
It’s still possible and quite likely we’ll see some more snow but as of right now we’ve had 40” of snow this winter compared to 110” last winter.

Guidance
It sounds like you’re doing the right thing right now. Come to places like this and read, ask questions. Surf the web and read and watch videos. You’re developing a network by being a co-angler. TOW is huge. Bundle all these things together and give it time and you’ll eventually get to where you want to be. It just takes time. Don’t worry about the ones who started way before you. There are pros on the tours who started bass fishing later in life.

BROWN BASS TOOLS ~ Questions & Answers
Good write up as always.

Where did the old timers go?
To quote Dale Brisby “bull riding is 90% mental, the rest is in your head.”😂 The same can be said for bass fishing.

Winter 2023-2024
I’d say one of the warmest on record up here so there’s that. 😎

A-Jay's Annual Ice Out / Open Water Countdown Thread ~
@A-Jay it seems no matter what part of the lake the ramp is at, that’s where the remaining ice will be. Mother Nature is a cruel cruel woman!

Oh, so it’s not slow learning, it’s bad memory. 😂

A-Jay's Annual Ice Out / Open Water Countdown Thread ~
I saw ice last week on some of the lakes around GR and by me, but after yesterday and today I’d guess it’s gone again. No way I’m launching the boat just yet but I might hit a bank or two.

Non-ethanol gas price WAY higher
Plenty of places around here have E free gas to accommodate all the boats, ATVs, toys. Last time I checked it was hovering around $5/gal. I don’t use that much in the boat because all my lakes are relatively small.

Have you ever considered that the ineffectiveness of hyperrealism in baits is due to bass’ inability to see beyond a certain level of detail?
Ultra realistic lures are intended to catch anglers. One of my favorite presentations is the frog. I have ultra realistic ones and some that are just black or white. Look at the bottom of the frog (the part the fish sees) it’s not ultra realistic. Like @MickD said, it’s about getting that reaction out of them whether it be sight, sound, feel, etc. Heck I saw a YouTube video of a guy using a Lego Chubacka with a hook and he caught a smallmouth. 😁

Goodbye, my friend.
It’s never easy letting them go and they’ll never tell you they’re ready to go because they’re more concerned about you.

Minor Hockey
I started with pond hockey at age 10 or so which morphed into organized hockey. All we had was an outside rink which there were plenty of times we either couldn’t practice or if we could we’d have to dodge thin spots in the ice. Our first game of this newly formed program was literally like the first mighty ducks movie. We had catchers shin guards, old old hand me down equipment. 😂 After that game my parents tools my brother and I to get new equipment thankfully. We were playing school teams, club teams that all had indoor rinks so we always got destroyed! We had a good time though. One concussion, a scar on the bridge of my nose, and a bum shoulder from a torn AC joint are what I have left from my playing days. Good times!
