  1. Looks like I need to get some maps and sandwiches, find the prey, then throw some reaction baits. This should help me next time! ;D Thanks guys!
  2. Thanks guys! The water is actually low, about the normal summer pool. I have wanted to try the shakey head lately, but...................just didn't. I'm gonna try it. I dont know if they moved or not, but i think i'll just have to try different approaches. Thanks guys!
  3. what do you do? Do you stick with the lures you caught fish on, or do you keep trying new things?
  4. One of my favorite smallmouth areas has not been producing lately. About 2 months ago I caught 37 smallies in one trip. I fished it only once scince then, and that trip was good. The last two trips in the area just down right sucked! A few days ago I had 14, yesterday 5. I looked back in my log, and these are the two worst days i've ever had in the area. I am using 3 and 3 1/2 inch tubes ( Zoom Small Zoom Tube), natural colored crankbaits ( Bomber Model A) , small creature baits (*** Baby ***), and senkos. The area is about a 3/4 mile stretch of crick, averaging about 20 yards wide. Most of it runs between 2 and 3.5 feet, there are 2 deep holes, one is about 14 feet deep, the other is about 9. The deeper hole contains ledges and boulders, the other deep hole is mostly laydowns. the holes only take up a small area, the rest of the water is rocks, some small, some big, ridges, laydowns along the bank, overhanging trees, and weeds. I know the fish are there, i've caught them before. I cant seem to find them now. I have tried everything. If anyone has any advice or suggestions, please post them. Sorry for the long post . Thanks, Ian

  12. I was at the river last night after some bass. We were fishing weed beds in about 3 feet of water, there was tires everywhere. I spotted a nice catty by a tire, he was about 30 inches or so. As I got closer to the tire, I noticed there was a smaller one in the tire yet, he was about 25 inches, but he was really fat. So I hung over the edge of the boat and tried to get him, called noodling or grabbin, I tried several times to get up under his belly and grab his mouth, but failed. He made a turn and looked right at my hand, so I tickled his chin, he bit but he didn't bite enough that I could get ahold, then he got out. I have yet to successfuly noodle a catfish, but I will. Thanks for reading! Ian

  22. I was able to get up to Cowans Gap lake for the weekend. I didn't get started Friday night 'till 8, but it was the best night! Within the firs hour I had 9 average ones for the lake, around 12 inches. I moved up a little shallower and started to fish some rock piles in about 5 foot of water at a little after 9 p.m. I made my first cast to the outisde of the rockpile with a Tiki stick, baby bass pearl swirl, rigged wacky, I let her sink BAAAAAMMMMMMM........I missed that one. I threw back to the area and she hit again, I set the hook, and she didn't budge, I thought...here we go!!! It only took me but 20 seconds to land her. She ended up being 4.25 lb. and all but 20 inches. The next cast I had another bite, set the hook, and this one felt heavier, well, it was probably 7 pound, but she didn't make it to the boat and she threw the hook. > I caught one other one that night that was 2 pound. Saturday I had a total of 9. I was fishing rock piles in 12 foot of water and dropoffs in 16 foot of water. They were all average fish. Caught them on a combination of worms, crankbaits, and senkos. Sunday I had a total of 6. Every fish was on a different lure, a tube, a jig-n-craw, a senko, a crankbait, a worm, and a spinnerbait. All were in about 10 foot of water. All in all it wasn't too bad. It's the usual for that lake now. I know theres some big 'uns in there though, I seen them during spawn. I was glad to be sucessful on one of my first attempts at offshore structure, so I am just tickled :)

Let us know how ya do, I know theres some huge smallies in large creeks also! Ian
  24. What usually works for me is moving out to the next available structure, whatever it may be. Once I find that, I usually slow down using jig-n-pigs, cranks, or lizards. If that does not work for me, then I try for a reaction strike, using a jerkbait and such. Then, if I still cant get any bites, I move out to the next available structure again, and start all over, once you find 'em, your set. Ian
  25. Very good posts! It came at the right time, I am just now trying to learn to fish offshore structure! Thanks! Ian
