  1. Here's my best tip. Get yourself a pair of 4x cheaters. I can't tie a knot without them.
  2. Back in the day I tried catching nightcrawlers at night. My gosh I was HORRIBLE at it.
  3. Went to a somewhat local lake last night that I've always said is difficult to fish. I've heard others say the same thing. Decent clarity, lots of depth, and gets fished a good amount. I'm convinced that the best time to go after bass is in the dark, at least in the summer. There's an area that holds vertical timber as well as timber that is fully submerged that I think the DNR just threw in there. It's the most fishiest place you can imagine. I just had this gut feeling, like you could almost sense they were there. A couple big explosions on the top confirmed my gut feeling. Not easy to fish though. I tried a swim jig for a bit but got hung up and had to cut it loose. It was almost 1:00am by then so I called it a night. I'm thinking, unless there are better suggestions, that topwater is by far the best. Buzzbait? Frog? I could fish like a popper but I think I need a heavyish rod with heavy line. If I get a nice fish I'll need to get them out of the wood as fast as possible. Anyone fish wood at night? Thoughts? Thanks to all!
  4. Had no plans on fishing last night but after posting about TIME ON THE WATER I said what the heck I'm going fishing. If you've ever fished in a kayak, you know it's not easy. If you've ever fished at night, you know it's not easy. If you've ever fished at night in a kayak, "you know it's not easy" is an understatement. Learned a TON. Good and bad.
  5. Jigs Worms The chuck and wind/twitch stuff yes has little nuances but jig fishing and worm fishing are staples in bass fishing. You get good at those, the other stuff seems easy.
  6. This rod confuses me. It says UL but can throw up to 1 oz?
  7. Any good suggestions? Lures are so dang expensive now, figure I add one to the tackle bag. Thanks!
  8. Absolutely. Have to try and separate personal and business use, normally a percentage is used. Although I can guarantee there are some out there that write everything off. You see those youtube guys showing you how a lure looks underwater? You better believe they are writing off some of that pool!
  9. Very true. My problem is that I don't know a thing about engines etc. I'll be like "Yeah, ummm I think I need to change the spark hemi on the bearing filter".
  10. Thanks for the suggestion, but I already know what I want. To me, it's the most beautiful reel I've ever seen. Not kidding, it's like a piece of art to me.
  11. I started reading this thread and that's the first thing that popped in my head. I fish from a kayak, but it was only like a grand or something several years ago. Don't even remember. The only way to go forward or back is by the paddle in my hands. A $3k boat with a $3k motor, not to mention all the other stuff, why not just get a boat? The only thing I can think of is much less storage space. Can still get away with a 2 stall garage probs. I've thought about getting a pimped out kayak but my next purchase is 100% going to be a boat.
  12. One of these days I'd like to put together a nice BFS combo, just maybe not this year. Bass would be fun but for some reason I'm more excited to catch bluegills and crappies on it. Topwater bluegill would be AWESOME!
  13. Make sure you give us a review!
  14. “Honey! You know how you always say I’m not good at fishing? Well apparently I’m GOOD at it!!!!!!!!”
  15. Well, the last couple of replies say exactly what I was going to. Which is, TIME ON THE WATER. You can read this forum all day and all night. You can watch YouTube videos all day and all night. Both are VERY helpful, but you have to get out there and fish. Even if it’s just a short trip, try to learn something. What worked? What didn’t work? PS Be stubborn.
  16. Heck I have a couple of rods that don’t even have a knot, just a piece of black electric tape.
  17. Everything you want right here:
  18. That amazes me. I hate to assume but is the second bass hooking itself? I can't imagine setting the hook with one bass already on. Are you bending the hooks up? That's just crazy!!! LOL
  19. Take out the letter "b" and it still holds true...
  20. I'm willing to trade my little bit of knowledge for some syrup.
  21. We have one in Iowa that's almost 2 hours away. I'll stick to my online shopping.
  22. Another member's post got me thinking about skipping, something I've rarely even tried. I realized I have no idea what baits work and what don't. So, I thought I would break it down into 3 categories for my question: Baits you can skip easy? Baits you can skip that require decent skill? Baits you just can't skip? Thanks!
