  1. As far as table fair goes, Snook are awesome if prepared correctly if not they taste like soap, hence the name "Soap Fish" given to them by old Florida crackers. If you leave any part of the skin on you might as well throw it away or give it to your cat or dog! As far as eating snook from fresh water canals or lakes, I'm not sure if there is a difference in taste. I for one try not to eat anything from urban areas, due to runoff from communities and surrounding roads. You may want to do some research on bio-accumulation or just read this PDF guide on what is safe to eat and from where in Florida. http://www.doh.state.fl.us/floridafishadvice/fish_eating_guide_eng.pdf Hope this helps, also if there are any misspelled words or incorrect grammar usage in the above paragraph please excuse my ignorance, but the facts still apply.
  2. I apologize for my smart donkey remarks but how else can you fish a crankbait besides on a reel? ;D ;D ;D Bassn you could in theory fish it on one of those Cuban yo-yo spools that some of my cousins use.
  3. I have been craving a trip out there with fellow anglers, maybe we can ride in your wake Bassn, I'll bring Glades along. That way we can explore around under Boca's supervision . I hear Indian Prairie canal area is on fire right now.
  4. Anyone been fishing the refute lately? I may take a quick trip out there next week, but with all this rain I am thinking they are pushed way back into the flats making them hard to find. My snook freezer is already full, so I need to get a bass fix
  5. My heart goes out to their family members.
  6. All is relative to a perfect cranking reel, frog reel, etc. In defense of the Zillion, I have caught Snook and Jacks up to 20lbs on a the High Speed Model, no issues with drag not being able to handle the fish! Remember folks and even though its in opinion I believe most hard core tackle junkies would agree. 1. Shimano/Daiwa 2. Abu 3. Quantum 4. Etc. etc. Disclaimer, my older "tree catching brother" has a personal best bass that outweighs mine, he caught it on a closed faced Zebco and a Blue Sky rod on a beetle spin. So my opinion should not offend someone too seriously. ;D
  7. Pebbles, she is a heck of a little squirrel dog, she trees them with the best. Here is a pick of her last year in Georgia.
  8. As with any dog depends on the individual. My sister had a Rottie, Bear, that was very possessive/dominant and was scary to control, she also had a great Rottie, Blacky, that was as tame as any lab.
  9. I would not and I repeat would NOT fish off the North end of the inlet. Unless you want to get your car broken into or assaulted. You can fish the S. end, but its a heck of long way up from the public access areas. I fish by boat, putting in on the Blue Heron bridge and motoring over to the inlet.
  10. Congrats SirSnookalot! I too have been tearing them up here in the Palm Beach Inlet. Nothing as big yours though, this year. Can't wait until fall mullet run. Although they are fun to catch and are great fighters, Jacks are not Tarpon beaters! Also, I must be a no knowledge freshwater guy since I think Jack Crevalle are not very good....almost awful to eat! Although, a few of my fellow salt life friends would agree with me. I have tried eating them year ago after seeing pier rats take them home regularly, but I had no luck making them taste good. Do you have a good Jack Crevalle recipe you could share with us fellow Floridians, cause I can wreck them pretty good when all else fails ;D. By the way if it involves smoking them, it doesn't count, I can make an old bloody sock taste good on the smoker Keep those soap fish coming!
  11. With proper maintenance and care both are great motors, but you can't beat a 2 stroke when it comes to performance, but then again its nice to carry on a conversation at WOT with your fishing partner.
  12. I have a Tracker Topper 1436 that I bought 3-4 years ago for pond/canal fishing. I have a 9.9 HP Evinrude on it and can attest to the fact that its transom flexes like a piece of cardboard under throttle. For the price point though, it is what it is. If I wanted something sturdy I would have bought a Grizzly. My last "cheap" jon boat lasted over 10 years before the rivets started leaking bad. So total cost of ownership over the long haul has been worth it.
  13. You can't go wrong with the Trilene XL or XT depending on application, but I am now a huge fan of McCoy's Line, its the best mono IMO. As far as Big Game, it should be called Big Boing, great for impact leader/saltwater applications, but to stretchy for my taste!
  14. I met Aaron at this year's iCast event, at the Sunline booth. Talked fishing with him for about 30 minutes and not once did he seem standoffish as some of the pros seemed during the event. He was very informative and offered advice to other attendees that approached him while we were talking. In my opinion he is a great person and angler.
  15. Ike is kicking himself right now, for showing up with less fish on final day and losing TWO!
  16. Started crawling at 5 1/2 months, darn kid is all over the place now! Stands up, but can't balance himself too well at 6 months.
  17. Guess what!??? Another REVO issue, that makes it a perfect 4 for 4 on all Revos I have owned. 3 Premiers and a Skeet Reese, I don't understand! All within the first week or two of ownership!!! This time I set up on a bass in the junk and bent my paddle handle. Never in my life have I had that happen! So I called Abu to see what they could do, and I have to send them the whole reel in for repair. I asked how much a replacement handle cost and they said $17, but its on backorder! Although, the darn reel cast great and is light as a feather in my experience Revos are like Quantums when it comes to reliability, but worse! Look for my Skeet Reese to be in the Flea Market for $175 shipped when I get it back from Abu send me a PM if interested in buying it. Guess I should have stuck with another Daiwa or Shimano. ;D
  18. I downloaded the navionics app during iCast, Awesome perfect for my little jon boat and its going to be a great tool for duck hunting. I hated iPhones cause I didn't want to be a mainstreamer until I ran over my $600 Nokia N97 with my lawnmower! Yet, I became a believer after my wife convinced me to give it a try. I love my iPhone, from the apps, that I don't mind paying for, to the music for the ride, it rocks. The interface is simply what all others American market cell phone companies aspire to be. Apple has a winner, to bad they have ATT as the provider! Now for a really cool phone check this out: http://phonereport.info/hitachis-hd-mobile-phone-begins-retailing-in-japan/
  19. Adam was born on 1-23-09!
  20. He's right we had a spawn on the Big-O early last year. But the further north you go the later it gets. It amazing how different spawning times can vary within the same county especially in Florida!
  21. Woods and Waters has some info. on the North end, but its pretty much standard crap, plus everyone else in the toury already read it. Hope you catch all the berthas before 10 A.M. its going to be a hot one! Good luck!
  22. As far as another prop to tow your wife skiing, you shouldn't need it. A 4 blade 24" prop on a 175 HP outboard should pull her up just fine. I have a 18 1/2' Ranger with two props a 25" Powertech 4 Blade that I run in cooler months and when running solo/light. I also have a 24" Powertech and that thing gets up and goes even when pulling a 180-200lb skier! Trimmed all the way down of course. Oops, I forgot to tell you I am only running a 150HP.
  23. Hire a professional guide for a day or two of your trip. He should know the lay of the land since he is on the water. I suggest you ask fellow forum member George Welcome for advice or better yet, drive to Stick Marsh/Farm Pond for a day or two and have a blast catching prespawners. Good Luck!
  24. BigNiner, Where in Palm Beach Gardens, I am a Florida native that grew up in the area and live in the Gardens now. I have some great places in the Gardens area that I can take you to, one being my backyard. Shoot me a PM when possible.
