  1. Can anyone link the similar thread from last year for reference? My goals for this year: - Continue to work on compartmentalizing fishing: I am obsessed, as it is part of my personality. I daydream of fishing constantly. I want to continue to get better at being present in the moment with other aspects of my life and continue to learn to suppress my urge to obsess about everything surrounding putting fish in the boat. - Fish a tournament as a BOATER (that means acquire a “full-size” boat). I sold my Basshound turned mini bass boat in early December to make room in the garage for something bigger. - Win a tournament: Last year it was my goal to catch a limit in a tournament, I did that successfully and even placed 3rd several times as a co-angler. - Place top 8 in my club/make the state team: I would have made the state team this year, but I blanked on a tournament and I didn’t have a chance to fish another one to take its place. This will probably be my most difficult goal. Med school isn’t the most conducive to tournament fishing. - Catch a fish on a Hinkle Shad: I got bit by the big swimbait bug in the late fall and I want to learn how to make them produce. - Break 7 lbs: Won’t be a new PB (current is 8-8 lbs) for me but it’s been since I was 8 years old since I caught my PB. I wanted to break 6 lbs last year and got it done, so I am upping it this year. I’ve found a lake that has a high probability for a fish over 7 lb and plan to hunt one down.
  2. Chiefs are repeating last season. The Chiefs secondary is terrible and everyone knows it. The league has caught on to all of the trick plays. Unfortunately, if the Chiefs are ever able to put together a strong secondary the heavy hitters on the line will probably have already moved on.
  3. Its a used boat. I talked to Sam (the owner) and he said he wouldn't let it go until it had been thoroughly inspected and tuned up (compression test, water pump, etc)... And wouldn't be ready until January and it wouldn't impact the price... The thoroughness seemed too good to be true... But all the reviews and such I can find suggest that is just the culture at Bedford Sales.
  4. Hi all, I have found a used boat in Morris, Illinois at a dealer by the name of Bedford Sales. The deal on the boat is pretty good and they said they won't let it go out the door until they fully inspected it. I am wondering if anyone has ever delt with Bedford and can share their experience. The deal is borderline too good to be true, but still somewhat believable for a 20+ year old boat in good condition with some bells and whistles. Thanks.
  5. Or it’s the ideal time to get a great deal because people are trying to get rid of boats to avoid storing them and there is low demand.
  6. For at least the last 10 years, I don't think it has mattered which running back has been behind the Chiefs O-line. Honestly, I hope on Thursday that we don't play anyone who needs to rest or to recover from minor injuries. We don't need anyone going out for the playoffs. We've got to be in it for the long haul this year. Some inside intel has me pretty sure that Mebane is going to be back this week for the Chargers which doesn't help our cause.
  7. Decided to run. The guy was giving me some other red flags as well.
  8. In a strange turn of events, this is no longer true.
  9. I’m so in love with the cast control knobs on these reels. Waiting on purple ones to match the SV XS reels.
  10. My search for a bass boat has begun and I have decided that a Ranger R70 meets all of the specs I am desiring out of a boat (glass, fits in my garage, good rep, etc.) My understanding is that the late 90’s Ranger R70s have all fiberglass transoms. I have found a 1997 model for a good price and the guy says there was a 2 inch crack in the transom that he had repaired by a body shop. He says that the body shop “only put an 1/8th inch of glass in it” to repair it. He also says that there is no movement in the motor when he applies force to it. With a wood transom I wouldn’t even think twice and I would run and never look back. However, with a glass transom I am less informed. What things should I be thinking about with a glass transom that was previously patched? Is there still a risk of some sort of rot/deterioration as with wood? Of course, I would take a look at the boat and drive it before any money changed hands. Additionally, I would just go assess it myself and have a better report but it’s a few hours drive away. Looking for some advice before I decide to go check it out or move on. The price on it is good (but not too good to be true) or I would have already moved on. I am supposed to be getting pics of the area pre and post repair, so I will update with pics if possible. Thanks for your help and advice.
  11. What stretch? It’s about as sensitive as piezoforce microscopy.
  12. Don’t do it. You will never go back. Amazing line. Switched to it last year and used the same spool all season. A little KVD L&L on it and just peels off the spool on a cast like silk all year long.
  13. Sorry, wasn’t referring to that experiment/manuscript about the physiology of gas exchange and gills being wet. Will update with source for that later.
  14. What box is this? Where did you get the inserts? Link?
  15. I don’t know, trees live a really long time... Looks like a bass can stay out of water for about 10 minutes without any significant consequences. Behavioral and physiological responses of the congeneric Largemouth bass and smallmouth bass to various exercise and air exposure durations. https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S0165783607002056 My understanding is that the gills can still do gas exchange when the bass is no longer submerged if the gills are still wet.
  16. BPS Pro Qualifier 2 combo when it’s on sale. Was at $79.99 not too long ago.
  17. Are you planning on keeping the backpack on your back while casting? Or just plan on it to be on your back when making the trek to the bank and then setting it down?
  18. Is that a 9” or 7” Slammer?
  19. When does this stack? The Buy 6 get 2 is working but not the 20% off for me.
  20. A sensitive rod helped me gain confidence. It helped me gain confidence in what was on the bottom. I switched from a Wright & McGill Skeet Reese Jig/Worm rod to a Daiwa Tatula Elite and I started feeling things I had never felt before on the bottom or in brush piles that I had fished numerous times. Because I could feel the bottom and/or brush better, and because I fish a jig like I am trying to map something, my retrieve varied a lot and I really started catching a lot more fish. In other words, I started getting a lot more feedback from the bottom and I think that helped me become a better fisherman. I even switched back to the Skeet Reese rod and fished those same areas again after fishing with the Daiwa and I felt like I was fishing with a wet noodle. Honestly, I was surprised at the magnitude of the difference. The reel and line were exactly the same (Daiwa Tatula SV spooled with 20 lb Tatsu). At the time(s) of purchase the Skeet Reese Rod was $80 and the Daiwa was $180. I haven't compared many other rods, but in this case the $100 seemed to make a lot of difference (although brand change is a confounder).
  21. ***Are*** there bass. ? The better question is to ask, are there active bass. Everything above... PLUS and very importantly, a couple (just two really) of baits you have confidence in. Something that can be fished throughout the water column by varying retrieve (a lipless is a great choice); and something bottom contact (a jig or texas rig is a great choice). I start by fishing a moving bait in places where I think there ought to be fish. Then I fish those same areas with a slow bottom contact bait. If I don't find anything I go on the hunt more broadly and quickly covering water.
  22. How big of a swimbait are you looking for? Then first thing that comes to my mind is a Huddleston, which is often fished more like a jig than a moving bait.
  23. I use it on nearly every single reel I own... As backing. When I was a young boy and my dad would take me fishing to farm ponds, Zebco omniflex 10 lb test was the only line we would ever use. We would catch dozens of fish at every outing and a significant portion of those fish were over 5 lbs. Back then we would only use spinning gear, but I don't recall really having much of a problem with the line.
