I sleep better at night if I unplug the chargers, even though the 3-car garage is not attached to the house. I don't trust chargers or batteries and only takes a few hours at most to charge anything I own. And forget wet cell, I love how fast the 3-bank Minn Kota PC charges my 3 Duracell Group 31 AGMs. There's a lot of stuff in garage and the unfinished walkup attic. I could easily replace the 16-foot boat, the 48" Deere X380 and the Toro MX5050 zero turn, but I would never hear the end of it if my wife lost all of her old stuff and her son's stuff and their old baby furniture, etc.,etc.,etc.

I was fishing a 9-hole golf course pond from the back seat of my mentor's boat 30-some years ago. Early winter fishing with minnows. Thirty minutes before lunch I hooked a big bass near the bank and the line broke about a foot above the bobber. Seeing that we were 50 feet from the tiny clubhouse dock, we tied off and went inside to warm up and buy hotdogs. Call it a 20-minute lunch. Leaving the dock we continued down the bank toward the small dam. About 100 feet along my buddy said, "Is that a bobber under that lone bush?" Before I could answer he got off the motor and tossed a minnow at it. Bang. It was a 7-pounder. I got my plastic bobber back and my hook. Didn't get my minnow though.

CE Smith made the one I've used for 9 years. They run $15 or $20 and take a padlock. The two arms screw down tight and then you insert the lock.

How long is your kayak? And how long are the leads that came on the trolling motor from the factory? Maybe 3 or 4 feet? The chart gives wire sizes for the lengths you add. They call it wire extension length. If you are only adding 5 feet the chart says 8 AWG will do. (I'd measure what came on my Maxxum 70 and Endura 55, but I hacked them and modified them years ago.) From the line below MK chart "NOTICE: Wire Extension Length refers to the distance from the batteries to the trolling motor leads."

I've been using nothing but the uni knot for 40 or 50 years, well, unless I need a loop knot. I started using it in the surf on 9- to 11.5-foot rods and still do. I know other knots, but I have faith in my ability to tie the uni correctly in the wind and even the dark. The first directions I saw came in a spool of line and it took me awhile to get the hang of getting it to pull tight evenly with no lumpy crossovers. For the life of me I can't remember if it was Stren, Trilene or the original Silver Thread, but that came later iirc.

The Maxxum 70 that's been on it since 2014 is still working just fine, but I must have some money burning a hole in my pocket. Bring on the spot lock, etc. In 2014 I drove the new boat from BassPro to my buddy's garage to carpet and rig it. His 1990-something Polar Kraft 1648 is in the background. His original Maxxum 70 is still working as of two days ago when he last had it out.

Park it inside, under cover or in the shade. The sun rots carpet, even miniature golf carpet. My 2014 carpet is cheap red indoor-outdoor from Home Depot. I think the gallon of BassPro adhesive cost as much as the carpet.

Maybe the gators will eat the nutria. There are plenty of gators in NC, almost all the way up the coast to Virginia. "Alligators are living just south of Dismal Swamp in Merchants Millpond State Park, North Carolina". The VA line is about 15 miles away. Great place to rent a canoe to get to your campsite. There's even an Alligator River just west of Roanoke Island and Nags Head. The bridge from Roanoke Island takes you to the mainland at Manns Harbor. Conquest rods are prettier and cooler and fish better. Everybody has an opinion. Of course I'm partially colorblind and old enough to sort of miss black and white tv.

"I won't defend the spinning rod frogging" I will. It works well if you have a big enough rod, something like a 7' MH Conquest or my favorite, an old All Star Coastal Select - 7' MH rated for 15 to 25# line and 3/8 to 1.5 oz.

The guy that taught me to bass fish 40 years ago took a guy fishing Sunday. His friend caught 5 or 6 dinks. They fished from 11 to 4 and the forecast called for periods of high winds, but the water temp did rise from 53 to 57. Because of the wind he took a MH spinning rod spooled with 10# Invisibraid for his primary and he stuck with it all day. He fished a Booyah spinnerbait with a skirt trailer, but no plastic. He boated 25+ bass with most in the 2 to 3-pound range, but 3 were over 22" although the heaviest was only 6 pounds. I like spinning gear. I started fishing with baitcasting reels in the mid-50s, but have learned to use spinning when it's needed and that now includes my 11' surf rod, 10' surf rod and so forth. Fwiw I have 4 Conquest casting rods but only one Conquest spinning. His three big fish from Sunday. Edited to add: a chartreuse Booyah spinnerbait and fishing out of the back of the boat

It's been hit or miss with the temp swings. Early this morning it was 30*F just east of Richmond and now at 1:25 it's up to 63. Wednesday they're predicting 53*F and a low of 31. We were planning to go out Tuesday with 2 or 3 electric boats, but they've increased the forecast from 10-20 mph to 15-25mph. We will see what happens.
