how long could you go......

Featured Replies

was wondering how long could you go without having to buy any tackle. i mean ANY tackle, baits, line terminal tackle at all. just recently did a inventory of the garage and boat and realized I had enough gear etc. to not have to buy anything for at least a year or more. of course I didn't tell my wife this, but it's good to know that I have enough to get me through the next year...........

I've said this on here before, but I can only go as long as it takes to catch a solid sized Bass, then I go out and buy a bunch of similar stuff I caught said fish on.       For example, buy

At the moment I could probably go 2 full seasons.

If you had asked me that when the pandemic started, my answer would have been very different because I didn't have the stock pile I have now.

I bet @NorthernBasser could go a decade or more lol.  He's got an entire SHED of tackle.

Assuming no broken rods or reel failure, two to three years easy.

Depends how you look at it. If I want to fish with what I prefer to use, then a season or 2. If it’s just being able to fish with whatever, then many years.

I have twice as much tackle in my Gun room then what I carry on the boat.

I could possibly run out of favorite soft plastics but could change up and fish for a decade easy.

Dang I forgot about broken rods, I break at least two a year hahaha.

but I also have like 40 of them that are broken in a shed, maybe I could piece them together

in all seriousness I wouldn’t last long, I have to buy 1/8 oz round ball jigheads quite frequently. We fish in the land of rocks

I swore I wasn't getting anything for myself. I came out with a rod and 3 packs of the new ned Senko's in the Fire Craw color because I didn't think I had that color yet. $7/bag where as they're $4.50 right now at Omnia. But they were giving me a sad look and crying "please, please take us home".

Anyways, I get home and come to find out I had 2 bags already that I had ordered at some point over the winter.

It really is a sickness.

Before last week when I made an order, it'd been a good while since I last bought anything specific to fishing (I'm not counting things like gifts). Wasn't quite a year, but it was near enough.

If it weren’t for line, I could fish a few lifetimes without having to restock. But I go through line pretty quickly and can never seem to keep a huge stock unlike everything else fishing related. Right now I can probably go the rest of the year before I had to buy more line.

I've said this on here before, but I can only go as long as it takes to catch a solid sized Bass, then I go out and buy a bunch of similar stuff I caught said fish on.

For example, buy one MB 110 series jerkbait and catch a 7.2, within a week I had $150 in MB jerkbaits ?

Everything in my arsenal since starting back has been acquired through such means.  The less fish I'm catching, the cheaper it costs to fish and longer I go without buying anything.   The more and bigger fish I catch, the more absolute pants on head stupid I get buying tackle.

Probably 10 years. Maybe more

Without buying my favorite baits I could probably go a few years with what I have . That doesn’t include line, which I need now. I don’t even have enough left to line one reel now, except with line I don’t like.

I have enough hooks to make it 2 years or so. Talking any bass hook, not my favorites ( wide gaps), which I’m almost out of…

I’ve got enough combos to last the rest of my life…

i have some usual suspect type baits.  like my #925 Senko.   i only buy a few packs at a time.  so i would wither away with respect to inventory fairly quickly.  i run a lean supply chain.  just a couple of plastic shoe boxes.

Long as it wasn't a 3-hour tour. :D

Myself - I could probably go two seasons

Will I?

Probably not.

Not very long . I'd run out of terminal tackle quickly . Spinnerbaits , buzzbaits , crankbaits , top-waters ... I have a life time supply.

In 20 years I might have to resort to bushcraft.

If I stick to just Ned rigs, Possibly the rest of my life - jigheads, baits, line and leader material included :cool7:

Anything else...hard to say. If I'm willing to just let some baits go as I run out and switch to other stuff I don't use presently, or often, maybe another lifetime

...but a TW order just showed up today, and another is on the way - because you can never be certain

So you got like, three of them now ?

I'd "have" to buy line first.  All of my tackle and pretty much all of my equipment (for bass fishing) is stored in my boat.  I've probably got enough line (12 pound mono,  LOL) for a few months.

I don't want to talk about it

I have more than enough rods/reels and hard baits and can go 'until further notice'.  I figure at least three or four seasons to deplete my soft baits.   I might need an odd/end here and there as far as terminal tackle goes.  I don't overstock that stuff.
