Line lube
KVD line treatment soaks into the line. That is why it does not work immediately. It also dries so there is no residue to collect dirt. Silicone just coats the surface of the line. It washes off after a few casts. One problem with silicone is it leaves a residue on any part of your reel it touches. It collects dirt and grime. On a reel that is filled with line that has a lot of memory, I will spray it with kvd the night before it gets used. I don't want any residue on my reels collecting dirt

Berkley mono XT "Extra Tough" ?
Xt is more abrasion resistant, but a lot stiffer. It works pretty decent on baitcasters. I quit using it years ago, because i feel there are better copoly and flourocarbon lines. Plus xt is very thick diameter for its line rating. Xt is not very manageable on spinning gear. For copoly, suffix advance or p line cxx are good. For fluorocarbon, sunline sniper is my favorite. If you want to move to a tougher mono, Berkley big game is a good line.

12# Trilene
years ago I used trilene xt for most of my baitcasters. it is strong and abrasion resistant, but also among the thickest diameter line available.

Is it safe/smart to build a deck on 10.5ft flat bottom jon?
if you are not sure if it is safe standing without the deck, it will definitely be unstable with a raised deck. I added a raised deck to a 16 foot jon boat with a 48 inch width at the bottom. it had a 68 inch beam at the top. It was fairly stable, but you did not want 2 people on the decks moving around much. a 10 foot boat is usually a car topper and not very wide.

Life span of high-tech trolling motors
There are more things to break on the new motors, but most items are replaceable. my Ultrex is going on 3 years of heavy use and still going strong. the one problem I had was a broken steering cable. it was under warranty and caused by a bad overtravel sensor. it was a known problem on the first run of Ultrex's.

Rod/reel overboard
I posted this in another thread, but this rod and reel overboard story was my most memorable. I was throwing an ol monster worm into brushiles that were around 10 feet deep. I got a snag and was maneuvering the boat to free the bait. As the boat swung around in the wind the rod slipped out of my hand. I watched a $300.00 combo sink into the lake. I had a small folding anchor in the boat, so I decided to throw it into the vicinity of the snag. on the first try I hooked the brushpile. I pulled up a christmas tree and my rod was laying on top. Hardest part was getting the anchor out of the brushpile after I reteived the rod. This is my new rod retreiver.

CBD oil....thoughts?
This whole thread was based on CBD not marijuana or THC. CBD oil is not considered a psycho active drug. It does not give the high associated with THC. People that want Marijuana just for the high, have no use for CBD. To make a claim that people lie about its advantages, to get drugs, is just ridiculous. This whole conversation reminds me of this old propoganda clip.

What do bass taste like?
I think all sunfish get them. we used to catch bluegills and rock bass in the summer that were loaded with worms. My friend ate them. If there were any worms, I did not eat them

CBD oil....thoughts?
That is a pretty bold statement. I am curious if you have had experience with THC and CBD? Are all of your studies referring to the old refer madness era? there are several studies that prove it helps with some medical problems. Chronic pain, depression, and epilepsy are just a few. it is not a magic drug but the adverse affects of narcotics and pain killers are far worse than anything you get from marijuana. I personally have a friend suffering from stage 4 lung cancer. He hated the pain killers they were prescribing him. he was out of options and decided to try medical marijuana. most of his pain is gone and he feels a lot better. If it can ease the last stages of your life, how can that be a bad thing? I don't personally use any cannibus products, but know of several people who do with good results. a couple interesting articles: https://www.history.com/news/why-the-u-s-made-marijuana-illegal https://www.huffpost.com/entry/real-reasons-marijuana-is-banned_b_9210248?guccounter=1&guce_referrer=aHR0cHM6Ly93d3cuZ29vZ2xlLmNvbS8&guce_referrer_sig=AQAAAMb0J2rRzVBOtqHN4xLMX66SJ6CsPPYzbYZyImLqFL6bYCdAx0G6wwAVBKwtDcYDJHYPJjTlZzHUXaH4xnQKsH0hhxnDQXeLpLTsFdzhCoUP3xSoSdFEWVotf7Od_j2bdUwPJpYH_ODNigXyZtdaSswQD9L0Hn7FcaGU2Z7E2wq-

Best Shakyhead jigs for zoom finesse worms?
I use the Owner Ultra shakyhead. it is common in most sporting good stores and reasonably priced. It also has the centering pin, which aligns the worm, making it simple to swap worms. If I could find a mold that mimmics this jig head, I would make my own.

How long can you use the same senko/tube worm?
Even with the o-ring a Senko can rip with one aggressive fish. I have had days Senko fishing where the bottom of the boat was littered with ripped baits. I started using the creme stickbaits, sold at walmart. they have nearly the same action as a senko and only cost $1.25 a bag.

What line for rage toad / rage shad?
I use braid for nearly all topwater baits. I like power pro around weeds. the 4 carrier line seems to cut through weeds better than 8 carrier lines.

Anyone go leaderless?
I use straight braid on baitcasters for topwater. Braid to flouro leader on spinning gear. All other baitcasters get fluoro or copoy. I never use a whole spool of fluorocarbon line. Always use a mono backer. Most of the time I use sunline sniper. It comes in 200 yard spools. I fill 2 reels off of each spool.

Funny Fishing Stories
My story happened today. I was fishing brushpiles on a local lake. It was a good day until I snagged a sunken christmas tree. As I was maneuvering the boat to get a different angle to free my bait. The rod slipped out of my hand. I watched a Dobyns fury 734 with a Tatula SV sink in about 10 foot of water. I grabbed my portable anchor and threw it in the brushpile. luckily it hooked the christmas tree and I was able to pull it up with my rod still attached. There were 2 older gentleman catfishing about 50 yards away, while this was all going down. They thought the whole ordeal was pretty entertaining. Both of them were shocked I actually got the rod back. The rod was unharmed.I stripped and cleaned the reel and it is no worse for the wear.

Would this outboard have enough power?
Years ago a friend had a 40 horse main motor and a 2 horse 2 cycle as a kicker on his 16 foot v bottom. Wide open the kicker would push his v bottom about 4-5 mph. the 2 horse will have a little more power than your trolling motor, but personally If I were going to spend money on an outboard I would look for something a little bigger. chances are a 10 horsepower outboard might get your boat on plane.

Garmin vs Hummingbird?
Hummingbird base maps reminds me of the navionics card in navigation mode. very basic contours. I actually have lakemaster and navionics chips. The Lakemaster maps are much more refined and more accurate. the problem with lakemaster is it does not cover most lakes under 400 acres. the 2 power plant lakes in Kansas are also not covered. Navionics has maps for nearly every lake around here.

Favorite “Do it all” Jig
If I could only use one jig it would be the strike king Denny Brauer pro model jig. It is reasonably priced and I love the rattles in our Kansas stained water. Add a netbait Paca chunk and I am ready for nearly any jig fishing circumstance.

Latest Catch Pics Thread
Caught this smallmouth on a berkley drift walker, first thing this morning. My largest smallmouth of 2019. the topwater explosion was phenomenal when it hit. it was 19.5 inches long, but only weighed 3lb. 10 oz. this was the only smallmouth today. pretty good day overall. caught several largemouth on topwater in the morning. Switched over to a power worm after the sun came up and caught several more largemouth in the weed beds.

Helix Water Depth Issues
my helix 7 DI does something similar occasionally. It uses a transducer mounted on the trolling motor. It is usually on a hard bottom in water less than 4 foot. It will show bottom at the correct depth and an echo under that at around 20 foot. the depth readout will usually be around 20 feet when this happens. It clears up when you get in water over 8 feet After that I can go back into the shallows and the reading is fine. It doesn't happen often , but it can be a nuisance. My helix 7 at the helm has never done this.

For Us KC Area Guys - Fishing Reports
I am hoping this year was good for Clinton and Perry also. Consistently high waters should have helped the spawn. Perry seems to fluctuate a lot in the spring. I think the eggs get left high and dry most years. Now the levels need to go down, so they can open the boat ramps.

Kastking rods
I have one speed demon shakyhead rod that is ok. Cost was around $70.00. it feels like a $70.00 rod. I have 5 speed demon pro rods. they cost more, but are very nice rods. I Prefer them over most other $100.00 to $150.00 rods I have tried.

Berkley Flute Worm
I would have to agree with @OkobojiEagle .It will probably catch fish, but it looks like a problem looking for a solution. I do like Berkley baits but this one looks like a sales gimmick ,more than an innovation. Get IKE to promote it and make money.

Spiderwire line
I personally have had nothing but bad experiences, with all of them. Strange breakoffs, fraying, and wind knots. Wal-Mart also sells power pro. It is a little more expensive, but a much better line. It is the only Wal-Mart braid I will use.

Side Imaging not working when sitting
This. Side and down imaging paints a picture of the bottom contour as the boat is moving. It gives the most accurate picture if the chart speed is close to your boat speed. If you want to see what's happening when the boat is sitting still, switch over to 2d sonar.
