Crazy Catch
Used Crankbaits frequently when I lived in Iowa. One thing I noticed when I moved to Kansas is , Crankbaits catch catfish and drum. I have only caught a few decent Bass on them.

i have noticed a lot of the flatheads are similar size. did they stock a bunch of them at one time?

Double Barb
agree with @Team9nine . I have tried them, they worked, but you have to use a pretty solid hookset. generally I prefer 1 small barb for a worm hook. The double bard seemed to do more damage to the fish when removing the hook. that was a deal breaker for me.

What was it?
A beaver slapping the water with its tail is incredibly loud. They are pretty seclusive. Often time you will not see them. if there are any tees like this in the area, there are beavers

I thought that looked like your boat. It was probably comical watching me land the catfish. he did't fit in the net and it became a game of cat and mouse. I wasted too much time trying to crank up a big bass from the deeper water. should have went to the soft plastics earlier. I have fished this lake about a dozen times now. I still don't consider it an easy lake to fish, but it definitely has potential for big fish.

For Us KC Area Guys - Fishing Reports
decided to try La Cygne again today. a 6XD caught this 11 lb. 2 oz. flathead. the only thing I have caught on crankbaits this year in Kansas are catfish and drum. finally gave up on the crankbait and caught 2 bass on a magnum trick worm. first one was right at 3lbs. this one was 6lb. 4oz. only had 3 bites all day and the fish were right at 15 feet deep. Noticed the lake level has dropped significantly in the last 3 weeks. there are new trees sticking out of the water in marina cove. the county closed the small boat east dock, because the water was too shallow. the ramp is still open but you have to use the west docks.

Latest Catch Pics Thread
did a little Kansas power plant fishing again today. bite was really slow today. started cranking ledges with a 6XD and caught this guy. not what I was after but fought hard . it was 29 inches and weighed 11lb. 2oz. switched over to a magnum trick worm and caught this guy. 22 inches 6lb. 4oz. nice finish to the day.

Do i have an unorthodox opinion on Killing fish (in general for all purposes)
It depends on the species of fish. catfish and trout are stocked in smaller lakes for the purpose of catching at keeping them. I don't like the idea of people keeping large Bass. Plus in most U.S. waters large predator fish are high in mercury, so they are not that healthy to eat. small fish are fine if it is legal. selective harvest is healthy for most bodies of water. I don't personally keep any bass unless I gut hook it and it does not survive. if I want to keep fish, i will usually catch a few panfish. It is hard to hurt most panfish populations.

Using tablet as 2nd graph?
web navigation should have the same accuracy as a GPS unit. My concern would be the data plan for the tablet. if it is not unlimited you could rack up some data in a days use.

Why couldn't I hook 'em?
I agree with that on most baits. I am a cross their eyes with the hookset kind of guy. but the fine wire hook, usually Used on a ned rig, often pulls free if you hammer the fish with a big hookset. usually all you have to do is lift the rod and start reeling.

Why couldn't I hook 'em?
I would guess bluegill or sunfish. they are notorious for biting the tails . a lot of times when bluegills bite it will be a series of ticks. when a bass hits a ned rig, you don't have to set the hook. they usually hook themselves. It often just feels heavy.

12V Aerator Pump on 8V Battery?
it would be better to get a small 12 volt battery. if the 8 volt battery turns the pump it will overheat the motor and fry the windings. electric motors do not like to run under rated voltage. something like this would work

good luck. I have fished it quite a bit the last couple weeks. nearly every fish I have caught was out on structure. caught a couple dinks flipping the willows, otherwise everything was out in 10-20 ft. of water. haven't tried the river. The water was pretty hot on the upper end of the lake.

Bass Location......
I live in the lower Midwest. We have several lakes that have decent fishing, but I don't think we can compete with lakes like Toledo bend or fork. If I were planning a bass fishing trip in the U.S., Texas is where I would be heading.

My fish of the year

It's so hot...........

Bunnies....bunnies EVERYWHERE in my neighborhood
We have the same cycles here. Currently we are in a heavy rabbit cycle. the Coyotes are getting thicker. One neighbors cat came up missing and another neighbors schnoodle was attacked but somehow survived.

Bunnies....bunnies EVERYWHERE in my neighborhood
^^^ this. I have a few break barrel air rifles for urban pest control. 177 caliber is great for rabbits. My 22 caliber has taken several rabbits, a few raccoon, and one coyote. Just make sure they are in season and you have the correct license. Modern air rifles are powerful. Be careful if around dwellings or other people and make sure your neighbors are ok with it.

Carolina vs Texas Rig
at least we had the same idea
-
Texas Rig - flipping or worm weight ?
I use 1/8 oz/ if pitching shallow cover . 1/4 oz. if I am fishing around 10ft. 3/8 if I am dragging a big worm in deeper water. 1/2 to 3/4 oz. if punching weeds. depends on how thick the weeds are.
-
Carolina vs Texas Rig
I use the Carolina rig as a search bait. to find scattered fish. also to locate cover. It Usually has a heavier weight and can be fished faster while staying in contact with bottom. Once I locate fish or cover, I will switch to a Texas rig and fish it much slower. A Texas rig usually goes through cover much better. this time of year I will use a big worm like the Ol monster with both.

Newbie from Kansas City
welcome from another KCK member. You don't need expensive equipment to catch fish. there are several small lakes in our area that produce nice fish.
