Long Mike, Got to wondering about you last night while signed on. Sorry no lunkers but glad for the time you did get in. Catt, I always refer to my better half as "She Who Must Be Obeyed" ;D... As Ever, skillet
  3. I had saved my money from an evening paper route and bought a really inexpensive baitcaster and rod. My parents were cane pole fishers from way back and thought I was crazy to buy something you could go cut in the bottoms. Had never seen mono at that time (actually don't know when it came out) and filled it with that black braided line they used on their cane poles . It's a wonder I learned to cast ;D. My parents took us to Norfolk Lake in Ark. We were waiting for a ferry and I cast into the wake of one that was leaving with a red and white Red Devil spoon and caught one that must have been 13" or 14" and that's what set the hook in me ... I have fished a Devil's Horse in one form or another for a long time, a REALLY great bait. The deal of removing the front prop has been around almost as long as the bait itself. I'm not really sold on it myself, but I've been wrong before . I have always used the 1/4 or the 3/8 oz. I was at a yard sale and bought several lures. One was a Devil's Horse that looks like it has never been used (not a favorite color). The thing about it, it is the largest I've ever seen. It is shaped more like the 3/8, but it is almost 6 1/4" from the end of one hook eye to the other (about 5 3/8" of wood). Am I the only one that hasn't seen one this large or is it maybe made for northern waters where they have Musky or something :-? :-?... As Ever, skillet
  7. Have never even tried skipping with baitcaster, would still be picking out professional overrun ;D. I think what you are talking about is rolling your wrist (hopefully). I start with (easier with shorter rod) rod horizontal, little below waist high, pointed at about 2:00. Start with bait hanging straight down about 2" from last guide. Start rolling wrist back clock-wise. Bait will start moving in clock-wise motion. Continue rolling wrist picking up momentum until bait is at about 8:00. Between there and 9:00 let bait loose and it will travel in almost straight line or lower toward target. Hope that made some kind of sense ;D and WELCOME to the forums!!! As Ever, skillet
  8. Dayyyummm, you done good fella ;D! Seriously nice fish !!! As Ever, skillet
  9. Been there, done that and bought the durned T-shirt ;D! Hope next time is better for you... As Ever, skillet
  10. I agree it would be nice to have a set-up dedicated to each type fishing you do and retieing gets to be a pain sometimes. I try to use what I have to the fullest extent and have to stay within a budget for my fishing gear. So, I don't have a set-up for each type of bait in my tackle box (and don't have a tackle box as large as a lot of you that have posted so far). I still have an awful lot of fun Bass fishing ... As Ever, skillet BTW gremlin, I don't know how funny catching a lot of Bass on a 6'M Bionic Blade and a Citica 200D is (have done it on a 5'6" Fiberglass and 5'6" Graphite for a large number of years) but it is a lot of fun. Drop by sometime and I'll provide you with a lot of laughs ;D ;D ;D
  11. I know you're glad to finally get your boat back ;)and hats off to a really good job of figureing out what the fish wanted ... As Ever, skillet

MF, It was a pond near my house and have fished there only once before. Didn't do too well then either. I really never meant to put all the blame on the Ribbit. Under the right conditions I think you could do well with it. It did everything it was supposed to do really well (just no strikes ;D)... As Ever, skillet BTW guess I need to break down and get those MS licenses :-[

DMB, Just think what the National Enquirer could have done if they had photo-shop ;D!! I've got a friend that has almost taken it to an art form. If you'll remember in the first "Pirates of the Caribbean", at the very first of the film, Capt. Jack sailed in on a sinking ship and stepped on the dock from the top of the mast. I used to have long hair and a REALLY impressive set of mustaches. Johnny took a photo of me and put my face on Capt. Jack's body and wrote Skillet goes fishin' along the bottom. Have it on the frige now. Made a pretty decent pirate ... As Ever, skillet

I got it at a yard sale a long time ago and Love it. IMHO it swings wider and farther than other walking baits. I wouldn't mind trying that with the lip of a jitterbug except I don't know if they are still being made. Pluse that would kill the walking action and don't know what you would be left with ;D... As Ever, skillet
  18. jb_adams Rod action plays a LARGE part in spinning and bait casting ... As Ever, skillet

It was the first top water bait I bought after I started fishing for Bass, many Moons ago and it is still my favorite (well, a toss up between it and the Dalton Special). You can twitch it and pause or any variation of that. There have even been days when the fish wanted it on just a straight pull (with the reel) just fast enough to keep the props turning. I've used different sizes and colors. One of the all time greats... As Ever, skillet BTW Frogtog, It would be GREAT if you could get himto come on here!!!
  22. I'm better with bait casting than spinning :-[but I'll give it a try. From what you wrote, if you are still holding the line against the rod when you release it, that's too high. Drop your finger down some and try that. Other than that the only thing is pratice ,pratice and more pratice. Didn't mean to make that as boring as it sounded ;D... As Ever, skillet
  23. I knew that if anyone got into a spittin' contest on different type fish they've caught with FPB........weellll, just put my money on FPB ... As Ever, skillet
  24. No expert by any means, but take for instance, there a 3 ponds almost within spitting distance of each other near my house. All almost as different as the ones you describe. IMHO there are a number of factors age of pond, type of forage, if somehow the preditor prey factor got out of balance and fertility of the water in each. I would imagine you have probably thought of all these. What is your thinking on this? As Ever, skillet
  25. WELCOME to the forums!!! As Ever, skillet
