i dont think i've ever had chicken pocks or measles either. not sure where that puts me
  3. whatever you do, DO NOT take any advice from this guy
  4. i lived in canadia for 11 years, i HATE the cold. one year we had a polar vortex, i was working outside in -34°F. it was so cold, i couldn't think straight. it went on for 2 or 3 weeks. just brutal. i'll take the heat over the cold any day. since i've been back in the states, the last 5 years have been pretty mild winters here in delaware. i ain't complainin about that at all. being on a peninsula, i know all about humidity, i can handle it though.
  5. back in the day, i loved tyson because he was all business. no show boating, he came, he defeated someone, he went home. no apollo creed shenanigans, just doin what he came to do. if you showed up 5 minutes late to a fight, only thing you saw was an empty ring.
  6. i come from a big family, so i learned early on that if i wanted something, i had to find a way to earn the money. my folks would have given it to me if they could, but there were just too many of us. starting at about 10, i sold bait, trapped muskrats, sold pheasants and turtles, had a paper route. at 12 i took a job in a liquor warehouse, sweeping the floor, then i got a job doing janitor work. at 17 i was torn between 2 career paths. electrician, or rock star. i got a job in a lighting store so i could buy guitars and related gear. my band got pretty popular, and we were offered a touring contract supporting some big names. before we could sign, the singer and the lead player got jumped and ended up in the hospital. we lost the contract. God did me a huge favor. i never would have survived that. while working at the lighting store, i met a girl. we got pretty serious, and her dad got me hired at a mechanical contractor. they told me the electrical shop was full, but i could work in the sheet metal shop until there was an opening. when a spot opened up a year later, i had already gotten a raise, and had bought tools, and was doing pretty good, so i decided to stay in sheet metal. that was 39 years and 3 months ago. since then i have worked in almost every aspect of my trade, across 12 states plus canada. one thing i will say about kids today getting into the trades. back in the late 90's/early 2000's most of the new hires weren't worth a darn. these days, many of the apprentices i see are great kids who work hard, learn fast, and show up every day.
  7. my condolences. in times like this, i always wish i had something better to say
  8. if you're following the news the past couple days, i think we are clearly seeing it's already being abused, and we have every reason to be concerned. the sad thing is, you can't put the genie back in the bottle. i would love to go right on back to 1980 when we had no cell phones, no internet, no ai, and people knew how to disagree without hating each other for it. sure those things have advantages, but i'm not sure those advantages are worth what it's costing us as a species.
  9. i think it's a nutty idea. you'll spend $3k on a scooter, when the same money would get you a really nice used motorcycle that can safely take you anywhere. insurance is cheap. i have full coverage with extra coverage for accessories and pip, the total is under $400/yr. bike license? there are 2 ways to approach that. 1) the license isn't hard to get. 2) don't get it and ride anyway. if you wanted to get it, it's cheap, and not difficult to get. if you don't want to bother, spin the wheel and take your chances. cops never pull bikes over if you aren't doing stupid stuff. the dmv doesn't ask about your endorsement when you go through inspection. the fine for not having your endorsement in most states is about $200. at the end of the day, a scooter will have all the potential dangers a motorcycle will, with only a few of the advantages. you still need to buy safety gear, and it's the same gear at the same expense. you might save a few cents on gas. riding a scooter is like sex with a fat chick. it's fun, but you wouldn't want your buddy's to find out. 😜 besides, no scooter, will ever be this cool:

man, i got such a good laugh from that! reminded me of an old girlfriend way back in the day. she said i sat up in bed one night and explained how love is like the valvetrain on a v8. 😆

when i was in my 20's i had a period of extreme stress. i was narcoleptic for a while. you can't imagine how weird it is to be in the middle of talking to someone, while standing up, and know that any second now, you were going to just...shut off, and you can't stop it. i'll be 59 next week, and i rarely get more than 5 hrs in a row. in bed by 11, up at 4:50. on the weekends, i don't really know. i usually pass out in the easy chair somewhere between 10 and midnite, then i'm up in time to go in the bedroom and shut off my alarm clock. when i was married, the wife HATED that i could sleep immediately after laying down. apparently, she had a hard time getting to sleep, and did not find my snoring to be an endearing quality. some women are temperamental i guess.
  12. glad to hear you are getting it taken care of. i have 3 of them in my belly due to a surgery i had. i have had them a looong time. i want to get them fixed too, but i wonder if it's possible after all this time.
  13. i used to live in tenn, back in the 90's. i lived there a couple years. while i lived there, me and my next door neighbor hung out at one house or the other probably 3 times a week. we went fishing together a few times. i took a job that had me traveling all the time, so i let go of the rented house and just lived on the road. i went back about a year and a half later, as i was passing thru, (sort of). it surprised me how different everything was in just that short amount of time. i went to say hi to my neighbor, and he seemed like he barely remembered me, it was weird.
  14. i used to ride with a guy who was out on his bike one day, and stopped at a yard sale. he found a great deal on a big air compressor and tank. he asked the guy if he would hold it while he rode home to get his truck. the guy said no. so he bought the compressor, sent his riding buddy to the hardware store, and bought some straps and a furniture dolly. he towed it home 10 miles, riding super slow. he had to stop occasionally and oil the wheels and let them cool down, but he got it home
  15. i dont use the internet on my phone, because my eyes won't allow it. i use a desktop with a 60" tv as a monitor. when i post photos here or any other forum, they come from my imgur account. https://imgur.com/ it's very similar to photobucket, only it doesn't make you insane
  16. oh, the stories i could tell, about dumb stuff i've done...there are many. if i told them all, most of you would not believe some of them. in fact, i consider it proof of God that i survived them. that said, i in no way claim that i deserved any of that grace. the one i will tell you without specifics, is the time i was lighting off fireworks on the 4th of july. the very last firework i lit, blew over just before it went off. it shot into a sea of bull reeds, and burned down miles of marshland. i'm not exaggerating. it is to this day, more than 30 years later, the biggest fire i have ever seen. since then, i have only lit off a few small fireworks a couple times. even then i was extremely careful. i'm still shamed and embarrassed by it.
  17. that sounds like a win, to me. easier to play, sounds better. guild has a real good reputation, you should do just fine. it sure is good lookin!
  18. to be honest, i don't know who makes that particular one. it's an image i pulled off of a google image search. i typed in "true temper fret guitar". it's not for me, BUT the science behind it, is pretty interesting, and it does work. you can still bend on it just like a conventional fret. my ears are pretty terrible, yet there are certain chords where even i can immediately hear the difference. it's probably expensive, most stuff like that usually is. i think it's pretty cool that one day someone had a lightbulb moment and said "i know how we could fix it" so they did.
  19. boy do i have some good news for you.... they make guitars for people with your...affliction
  20. that all should work out just fine
  21. that's a nice lookin' guitar! good job getting a decent case. as a new player, you have some advantages that some of us old heads didn't have: 1) youtube is slam full of free lessons and song tutorials. when i was learning, i about wore holes in my records and tapes trying to learn my favorites. 2) your music dollar goes waaaayyyy farther now than it used to. the quality of today's budget gear is so much better than it used to be, it amazes me. you don't have to spend big bucks to have great stuff anymore. beware of G.A.S. (gear acquisition syndrome) once you really get into it, your stuff might begin to multiply. it happens to all of us. you start out with just a guitar. then you wake up one day and suddenly there's no room for anything else anymore. i once found a guitar under my bed i forgot i had. i'm not even kidding. how is the humidity in your house? if it's not around 45-50%, get some humidipacks for your case. i use boveda 49% packs. amazon has them. they'll help keep that sweet acoustic from drying out and shrinking. if you haven't had a set up done to it, find a luthier near you, and have them do it. it can make a huge difference in playability. remember me mentioning G.A.S.? you'll know you have it when your luthier, and the local music store starts sending you cards on your birthday and christmas. 😆
  22. cool song! seeing as how you and some others have posted your music, here is one of mine...sort of. i only wrote part of it, most of it was written by my best friend when i lived in canadia. it is the only one i have where the mix was complete. this one, this is how my band played it, but not how i wrote it. to be honest, that still kinda annoys me to this day. i could not get the others to play it the way i wanted them to. the other guitar player couldn't "gallop". the drummer either couldn't, or wouldn't play the drums as i wanted them. we re-worked the song to accommodate them. i woke from a dream once, where i was standing in the courtyard of a japanese castle, with a feeling of my hackles being raised. i looked up at the moon, and saw a kitten, dressed as a ninja, watching me from the tiled roof top. as the shinobi kitten scampered away, across the roof, something like this music was in my head. when i woke up, i went right to my computer and recorded it. eventually it morphed into the ditty below
  23. guy clark is AWESOME! how could we have a guitar thread? and me not post this song? i apologize for slacking: i also really love the one about dont forget your cape. nobody can write lyrics like that guy that's a good lookin lespaul, i love that tobacco burst. how do you like the origin? i was seriously considering the head before i bought the mesas i have now. from the reviews and demos, it seems like a really cool amp. do you have a combo or a head/cab? what speaker are you playing through? i hope you don't mind the questions
  24. that guitar has a great bottom end, but still sounds well balanced. i guess that's the big body doing that? i know nothing about acoustic guitars, so if that's dumb, i can only ask for patience. hahahaa you have an old twin? man those amps are incredible. loud barely describes them, but nothing else sounds like they do. i had a red knob twin, years ago, that someone gave me as a thank you...sort of. at the time, i lived in an apt in toronto, so it was completely unusable to me, i sold it. where i live now (in the states again) i can get loud as i want. i would love to have an amp like that again. i would never use all the available gain, but it sounded so good i wouldn't care.
  25. well, we won't judge you for it, folks around here are pretty forgiving that way 😝
