  1. Spend some time in the BassResource.com Library, "Fishing Articles" and "Tacklebox" at the top of the page. Read everything, including the links. *** also has an extensive library and he is the author for most of the articles. Here's something to get you started: http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1182371999 Good luck! 8-)
  2. WOW! Thanks, I'll check them out. 8-)
  3. So what are you going to do when you hook a bg one and don't have the STX on!?! Don't know, but I guess I'll depend on that Curado. No matter how it works out, I'll post it, promise! 8-)
  4. Let's go fishing at one of my ponds. I won't guarantee you'll catch a fish, but if you do it will be better than 5 lbs. Locally, I fish ponds when I'm in town. You might like them, too. -Kent a.k.a. roadwarrior Send me a PM, don't respond here.
  5. Bingo! Geez...Must not be hitting on all cylinders today. That is the most probable cause. Kinks become weak links and VERY obvious in the line. Line with a weak spot must be removed.
  6. WOO-HOO! CONGRATULATIONS! Great family picture, too!
  7. Unless you live in Florida, Georgia, Texas or Kalifornia, it's always 5 lbs. 8-)
  8. Really...it's no big deal. It's too bad you could not keep it, whether you want to eat the fish or just give it away. There is no impact on the general population and nature wastes nothing. 8-)
  9. Hey Matt, I know what you mean. It's very hard to tell from a picture alone just how big a fish really is. Like I said earlier in this thread, I don't care what someone claims unless they ask. 8-)
  10. The original Floating Rapala is an excellent lure! Get a Zara Puppy, black on silver; XCalibur Xr50, Chrome Blue/ Orange and a Terminator Spinnerbait, white with silver willow blades. All of these hardbaits are proven winners. When you are ready for soft plastics, you will need a bag of 5" Senko and a bag of Fat Ika plus some Gamakatsu 4/0 EWG Offset Worm Hooks. This is all you really need to get started catching some bass. 8-)
  11. Very well stated. I think a lot (most) of us who attended the Roadtrip feel the same way. Meeting Big O and spending some time with him over a period of several days impressed us all. This dude is "The Real Deal". -Kent
  12. Now, how would you know that, Raul? You rarely (never) fish them! The key to both Senkos and Fat Ika is fishing them in relatively shallow water. That means 12' or less for me. Most guys fish shallow, so the Senko is their go-to bait. If there is a bass in the zip code, there is a good chance she will strike this lure. Surprisingly, I'm kinda off the bandwagon. This has nothing to do with the effectiveness of the Senko or Fat Ika, I have just starting fishing other lures more often. However, for everyone that's having a hard time, I still recommend these two baits over all others. 8-)
  13. You don't need another brand, Ledgebusters are The BOMB! 8-)
  14. On the other hand, we do have a few big bass "experts". Mattlures, Randall, George Welcome, WRB, paul., RoLo, Fourbizz and Chris Fish are a few prominent examples. 8-)
  15. Wow! That's really surprising. I use #4 through #15 on various rigs and have never had a problem with breakage. Be sure to check you equipment with a Q-tip for anything suspicious, both guides and your reel. If you don't find a problem, throw away the line or take it back for exchange. For alternative line, these are some I have found to be comparable substitutes: Gamma and Sunline Shooter Defier. Many of our members fish Trilene XL, XT and Big Game. P-Line CXX is very popular and some of the strongest line made. So, your problem with the line is very unusual, but there are plenty of alternatives to try. However, if it were me, I would simply ask your retailer to exchange what you have left for a replacement spool of Hybrid. 8-)
  16. : Geez... The perfect post. I have nothin' to add. 8-)
  17. Nice fish, great pic! 8-)
  18. Good call, Brent. This thread is going nowhere and just gets people (like me) worked up. This thread is closed. -Kent a.k.a. roadwarrior Global Moderator
  19. We are "The State". The criminal act is against "We The People", regardless of the sentiment of the family. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Criminal_justice
  20. This is from a thread running a few lines down: All this can be pretty confusing. If you want to go back through this section, you can find advice on just about every brand and combination offered. So, to cut to the chase, here's some specific advice: Value: All of the major retailers have "in-house" brand rods. The best "value" is a combination rod & reel on sale. Select any combo which includes the Shimano Symetre 2500FJ. For an "all-around" rod, choose one that is 6 1/2' or 7' Medium Power/ Fast Action. Up-grade For Life: This is a combination you will never grow out of: Shimano Stradic 2500FI with a St. Croix Avid AVS68MXF. Whichever combination you buy, spool it up Yo-Zuri Hybrid or Hybrid Ultra Soft #6 (.010" diameter, 11.9 lb test). I also like all line treated with KVD Line & Lure Conditioner. Good luck!
  21. Happy Birthday!
  22. Hmm... The money resolves any "civil complaint", a settlement rather than a lawsuit in court. However, vehicular manslaughter is a "criminal complaint" which is "We The People" or "The State" vs the defendant. Thirty days in jail? >
  23. Call your guide and ask specifically what's going on and what you need to bring. I'm not clear on exactly what a "charter" means, but if you are fishing from a big boat with a lot of guys, that's completely different than the way you might fish in a 2-3 man situation. 8-)
