Hope you and the hubby find your way to Kentucky Lake. You will get a big kick out of Keri, you ladies are two peas in a pod. She is quite a stick, too! 8-)
  4. Please tell me you're making a funny. Geez... Are you guys in cahoots and just making up stories? These posts are simply ridiculous.I have never read anything like this here or on any other forum. Shimano reels are good to go right out of the box. If yours isn't, it should be exchanged by the retailer or sent back to Shimano. :
  5. I bought some of the 115s when they were introduced, but like much of my collection, they have never been wet. I fish the 128. 8-)
  6. Hmm... I like BIG, too! 8-)
  7. I have always wondered who had the other one. 8-)
  8. Start with just one and see how you like it. For an "all around" baitcaster, Avid AVC66MF. This rod is especially well suited for working topwater and jerkbaits, but I use it for Spinnerbait and buzzbaits, too. The tip is a bit to soft for jigs and plastics, but you can get by for now. Your next rod(s) would be AVC70MF and/or AVC70MHF. These are for both soft plastics and jigs. Medium power loads up better for weightless presentations; MH allows you to fish heavier jigs. This is my general advice: http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1196114229 I would also suggest looking at Shimano reels... :
  9. Some brands offer both left and right retrieve, your choices are many. I prefer the traditional approach: By George Welcome "Why is the reel handle on the right hand side." Let's get technical, as there are in fact reasons, not just some lame holdover from days past that put the handles where they are. What will move the fish during retrieval is placed to the strong hand! A baitcast is designed to be used as a winch, so it is the reel that retrieves the fish. Hence if you are right handed the handle is in your right hand. A spinning reel is designed to pick up unloaded or loose line, not retrieve the fish. Hence it is the rod that does the retrieval, so it is the rod that is in your strong hand. If you are right handed then the pole goes to the right hand. 8-)

  11. Thank you! Do you think your guide would be willing to post here?
  12. My PB was caught on a Norman Fat Boy, bluegill pattern.
  13. Welcome aboard! Spinning tackle: #6 Yo-Zuri Hybrid Ultra Soft (.010" diameter, 11.9 lb test) Baitcasting gear: #12 Hybrid or Hybrid Ultra Soft (.013" diameter, 19.5 lb test) 8-)

  15. Smallmouth (avatar), January 2005 Largemouth, November 2005 Norman Fat Boy, bluegill pattern 8-)
  16. Bottom line: Great reel and the set up is what you want. I just like bustin' chops when the left/right discussion comes up. I was blessed with two hands and they both work just fine! Enjoy your new CH51MG. 8-)
  17. I have the original thread stored in "Favorites", here it is: http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1187794805 There is nothing "out of context" regarding George's post.
  18. Easy there old school! Here's a question for ya. If they had both right and left handed reels back when baitcasters began would you have went with a right or a left retrieve? By George Welcome "Why is the reel handle on the right hand side." Let's get technical, as there are in fact reasons, not just some lame holdover from days past that put the handles where they are. 19. I hope Bud and/or CJ respond on this thread. I fish the tail waters of Pickwick which is "technically" Kentucky Lake, but our situation is totally different. I fish "the river" and that's all about structure, not cover. 8-)

Then why don't you make them that way? I figured you designed the jig exactly the way you fished 'em. I may have to re-consider by presentation.
  21. Ray Scott: What ever happen to the "light tacklel" push you promoted several years ago? Bill Dance: Why haven't you called? I'm still willing to teach you how to catch smallmouth on the Tennessee River. Forrest Wood: Have the center console Rangers been a hit with bass fishermen?
  22. Two: 1. What is your opinion on line visibility for largemouth bass? 2. Is line diameter important when fishing finesse techniques for smallmouth?
  23. To be specific, the reel had rough spots, is heavy, unbalanced and holds WAY TOO MUCH line for a spinning reel. The pricing point at the time was right on top of the Stradic and there is NO comparison. As I recall, one of the features they touted was a very strong drag which is ridiculous for any reel when the suggested line is 4 lb test! >
