  1. No, but if you fish a lake like Bull Shoals, it's obvious. The "main points" are along the channel of the old White River. "Secondary points" are back in the coves which used to be tributaries. 8-)
  2. The Swim Senko and Super Fluke have been suggested, what else? 8-)
  3. Kinda like black & white television, 45 records and dial-up internet, don't you think? 8-)
  4. Huh? Most of the "collectors" buy technique specific gear which dictates a number of specific reels. A lot of guys have several brands, others have their head in the sand and only buy one brand. Start with the best you can afford and later buy the ones you can't afford. : Generally, my combination costs break down 2/3 reel/ 1/3 rod, but I still don't skimp on the rod. My collection is somewhat generic and "domestic". The next hurdle is "Made For" the Japanese market and "Custom". Once you find your dream rig for around $2000, you get it "upgraded" with all the bling-bling you "need". Take a perfect reel and improve it! $250 ivory handles is an example. 8-)
  5. Welcome aboard! We have a section you will like: "Tacklemaking". Check it out. 8-)
  6. Okay guys, we're sliding down that slippery slope. Time to go... Goodnight Irene -Kent a.k.a. roadwarrior Global Moderator
  7. Fluorocarbon is an inert crystal. Theoretically, it will never deteriorate. 8-)
  8. Very clever! 8-)
  9. Unless the recipient is involved in selecting the animal, pets should never be gifts. :-X
  10. I have only fished it a couple of hours at a local pond. The total weight with the "Live" Magic Shad is around 5/8 oz, so I probably could use a spinning outfit, but I used a baitcaster with #12 Yo-Zuri. Generally, I feel like lower diameter line is an advantage, especially for smallmouth. However, line visibility is not an isue when fishing reaction lures. So, I plan to use the baitcaster to reduce my chances of losing the lure on the river. I'll know a lot more and report results after a trip to the Tennessee. 8-)
  11. Or just edit out the background between those two fish ;D ;D ;D That picture is getting old. If I ever catch another decent brown fish, the avatar will be all fish! 8-)
  12. We'll see... I hear this all the time about Lake Erie and St. Clair smallmouth. The locals think they will produce the next World Record. Their fisheries are the best in the world for numbers and many big brown fish. However, until the region pops out a few 10s, there is -0- chance of a 12. Florida and Texas face a similar hurdle. Until these states produce a few 20s, talk of a World Record is premature. Big, even giant bass, are one thing, THE biggest bass is quite another. 8-)
  13. Welcome aboard! Later this morning, I'll move your post to our International Section. -Kent a.k.a. roadwarrior
  14. You bet! I was fishing a nondescript, bowl pond; casting out deep and bringing it up towards shallow water. What I'm jazzed about is fishing them along ridges and over pea gravel on the Tennessee River. 8-)
  15. I am, but they closed down for awhile and the only place I could find them was at Red's near Bull Shoals Dam. So, I started fishing Mizmo and Micro Munch Tackle tubes. Well, I just checked the Mizmo website and they discontinued my color! "Kent's Classic", 3 1/2" Small jaw. Scratch that...The color I most prefer is carried by BPS, "Puke". The guides I know at Bull Shoals call it "Baby Diaper Yellow". 8-)
  16. I guess the spinning reels are not as popular among our members. :
  17. Did you guys read this? http://www.bassresource.com/fishing/swim-jigs.html First of all, Does anyone use line that is this heavy? I use #12 on a baitcaster to fish jerkbaits and 3/4 oz Ledgebuster Single Willow Blade spinnerbaits, but all my other smallmouth techniques are with #6. Secondly, What do you think about swimming jigs? The only time I "swim" a jig is after I'm out of the zone and retrieving for another cast. Yes, I have caught a few when doing this, but I don't think it's a high percentage technique. Third, We all know grubs can be killer at times, especially when the focus seems to be baitfish. I don't think the jig had anything to do with this guy's success. I suspect they would have done just as well with the grub, naked on a plain jig head. He claims he was "swimming a jig", but I think all he was really doing was "fishing a grub". What do you think? 8-)
  18. In-Fisherman is the only one I subscribe to, but my favorite is Inside Line, now online: http://www.insideline.net/?from=*** 8-)
  19. Anyone considering Yo-Zuri Hybrid should take advantage of this sale. 8-)
  20. Those girls still swim in the Tennessee River. By now, they should be full grown. 8-)
  21. The CH50MG is on sale: http://www.***.com/descpageRLCSHIMANO-SHCSF50.html Great reel at a great price. 8-)
  22. My rig is a 7' Medium Power/ Fast Action spinning combination. The reel is spooled with #6 Yo-Zuri Hybrid or Hybrid Ultra Soft (.010" diameter, 11.9 lb test). It is very important to set your drag properly, 25-30% of a lines breaking strength. For me that's about 3 lbs. My favorite lure class is jerkbaits: LC Pointer, Rapala Husky and X-Rap. The soft plastics I throw are GYCB 5 1/2" grub and Hula Grub; 3 1/2" Mizmo tubes; GYCB Laminated Lizards and in still water, GYCB Fat Ika. Another option I like is a hair jig with a GYCB Fat Baby Craw trailer. Good luck! 8-)
  23. I hope you'll let us know how this turns out. I have had no problems with Reed's, but now that you have G. Loomis on the case, I'm sure this will be resolved in short order. However, there should not be a need for outside help. Reed's should have delivered the rods or notified you that there was a problem. Very strange. :-/
  24. My wife had it on in the background. I saw a few of the costumes and caught several of the "entertainers"...
