  1. What was the question? : Okay, if you're not using a 4/0 EWG Offset Worm Hook, try that for starters. Sometimes a fish will throw a bait, but otherwise the Senko should be good for several fish. I fish the Senko for several reasons, but "texture" is an important attribute for me. If you want a very similar bait that lasts significantly longer, give * Salty Trick Stick a try: http://*.com/ 8-)
  2. Nope, it needs to be serviced. 8-)
  3. Welcome aboard! I don't have THE answer, but an average cast is 25 - 30 yards, 75' - 90'. If Catt see's this post, he can probably give you some specific numbers. (He has won several casting contests). 8-)
  4. They call it smoke, I think it's closer to purple, too! In my region, this is the color that matches stained water almost perfectly. In gin clear water, green is the ticket. I don't like "clear" in any water, it shows up white. Update: I just noticed the new colors that have been added. Maybe you bought the new purple: http://www.yo-zuri.com/Products/ProdLine/Hybrid.htm 8-)
  5. Eddie Munster, It was not my intention to insult you. The question was "How much does it weigh?" A suggestion I have made on several occasions is this: If someone posts a picture and states a weight that they weighed on a scale, that's it and comments should be "congratulations" or just move on. This is not a BassResource.com rule, but simple courtesy. On the other hand, if someone asks "How much does it weigh?" then GAME ON! I realize pictures can be misleading, making fish bigger than they are or in many cases, smaller. So, having seen a few fish and pictures over the years, my guess is less than others, but that doesn't make it right! 8-)
  6. 4/0 EWG Offset Worm Hooks for almost everything. (3/0 EWG for 3 1/2" tubes) DON"T skimp on hooks, save money somewhere else. I use Gamakatsu oe XPoint. Owners are also highly recommended by many of our members. 8-)
  7. It would be hard to argue with that! 8-)
  8. Well, I guess we have different definitions of the technique. I fish all soft plastics, all of the time, as you have defined "dead sticking". My baits sit for at least a minute on the initial cast. I'm thinking more like 5-10 minutes before moving the bait 6"-12". Sometimes I only make four or five casts in an hour! :
  9. Wow! That looks like a "Dream Trip" to me! 8-)
  10. Structure is the key. The easiest place to start is on steeply sloped, rocky points. Another suggestion would be the first drop near spawning grounds, but that can be difficult to pinpoint. 8-)
  11. The fat one is the hardest fighting freshwater fish I have ever caught, she weighed in just over 7 lbs. The other fish was caught about an hour and a half later. She was nearly 4" longer but only weighed one more pound. That is my PB and was caught, January 2005 below Pickwick Dam on the Tennessee River. 8-)
  12. ;D ;D ;D WOO-HOO! ;D ;D ;D Man, those are some beeeeeeeeUtiful smallmouth! Great pics, too! 8-)
  13. Great post! Thank you for taking the time to share your experience at the event. 8-)
  14. 1/2 oz jigs fit, even in a full jar! 8-)
  15. All new to me. I guess it just goes to show that smallmouth will adapt to the environment they are in. I would never expect to catch a smallmouth in the slop! Nice fish, too... 8-)
  16. 2.5 - 3 lbs Most 5 lb largemouth bass have a mouth that an average size man can fit his fist into, seriously. 8-)
  17. It's the price you pay if you only target bigger fish. I never consider it "bad", just another piece of the bigger picture. 8-)
  18. Huh? 3lbs is a stretch. :
  19. One of my "secret techniques". : Another reason it works so well is because it's rarely (never) used on purpose. Dead sticking takes a lot of patience and is usually described as boring, very boring. I employee the technique throughout an outing whenever I have a smoke. I don't like to "fish" when I smoke, so I take a break and am sometimes rewarded in a big way. My biggest bass this year was caught on a jig/ Paca Craw that sat on the bottom motionless for more than ten minutes while I was messing with my reel and line. When I finally got back to "fishing" I thought, D! "How could I get hung up in the middle of the pond?" 8-)
  20. Looks like momma's boots, too! 8-)
  21. Great post, but multiply that by 50 or 100 and plan to be at Kentucky Lake next April! 8-)
  22. Where did that 10" worm come from? I have a list of "George Welcome Lures/Baits" and that's not on it... Great post and a fine day! 8-)
  23. Well, Tiger ranks #2 behind Oprah in terms of celebrity earnings and recognition. Even if some of our guys aren't fans, Tiger is golf. Take a look at last weekend's rating and even more impressive, Monday on daytime tv...Mind boggling! http://www.foxbusiness.com/story/personal-finance/on-topic/sports/tigers-costly-injury/ 8-)
  24. Generally, 6 1/2' - 7' with Moderate Action. For an "all-around" rod, I have a St. Croix Avid AC66MF with a soft tip. This rod is especially suited for working topwater and jerkbaits, but is also my primary rod for buzzbaits and spinnerbaits. For shallow (Norman Fat Boy) and fast moving crankbaits (Rat-L-Trap) I have an Avid AC70MM. The 7' rod adds a little casting distance and the Moderate Action is ideal. For deep divers (DD22) and big treble hook lures (Sammy 128) I have the Lamiglas SR705R. This stick was designed by Skeet Reese and is the perfect rod for "strong" applications. This is a glass rod, Heavy Power/ Moderate Action. 8-)
