Both original formula Hybrid and Ultra Soft float, but let me be a little more specific because we have had some discussion defining "float". The lines are not buoyant like a bobber or PFD, when submersed they do not float to the top. Yo-Zuri is more dense than water and "floats" as a result of surface tension, like a bug walking on water. This has absolutely no impact on fishing a weightless worm or Senko, but it will not draw down the nose of a topwater lure, either. 8-)

The original Hybrid has a higher percentage of fluorocarbon in the formula so it is less visible in water. I use the #4 when I'm trout fishing on the White River. I have also been experimenting with #15 and #12 on baitcasters. After being treated with KVD Line & Lure Conditioner, they behave pretty well. I may go back to original Hybrid on baitcasting gear. The Hybrid Ultra Soft has less memory. In use, this line is virtually memory free. It was designed specifically for spinning tackle. I use both #4 (.009" diameter, 8.5 lb test) and #6 (.010" diameter, 11.9 lb test). 8-)

DEEP water bassin?
More important than the exact lure is location. If you can determine at what depth the baitfish are holding, you can be sure, the bass are somewhere close. Search on and around stucture, targeting suspending bass with baitfish in open water is very difficult. 8-)

Funny "newbie" fishing mistakes
Surprisingly, my favorite I see quite often: Spinning reel upright on a baitcasting rod, reeled backwards! "Man, these things are hard to use!" 8-)

2009 Quantum Tour Edition PT preview...
The Natural, Hey buddy! I know how serious you are about gear. Besides "pretty", is this a new "REVO"lution for Quantum? How 'bout the guts, has Quantum finally come up with a competitive reel? 8-)

Your GO TO Warm Water Baits
Soft plastics and jigs. Oh-oh! I guess I would have said the same thing for cold water. The main difference is depth and light. I like deep structue, but in low light, topwater and shallow cranks sometimes work better in warm water. 8-)

Another "is it worth it?" thread
Hmm... Ranger has reduced production by more than half, with more cuts on the way from what I hear. New boats aren't moving and trade-ins are not worth much to the dealers. I don't know what the boat is really "worth", but whatever that number is, I would offer half! 8-)

night fishing for trout
Last summer I had my first opportunity to fish the White River at night. I fished the Rapala X-Rap XR08 (rainbow trout) exclusively. In less than two hours I had seven very aggressive strikes and boated four German brown trout. All the fish caught were 5lb+, but you know how it is... I'm sure the ones that "got away" had to be 10! : 8-)

Measuring Drag with A Scale
You can measure drag direct by tying your line to the scale, but that's really a two man job. The easiest way to do it yourself is by putting free weights in a plastic grocery bad and tying the bag to your line. With the tip of your rod GENTLY lift the bag. The weight should be 25% - 30% of the stated strength of the line as long as that is within the stated parameters of the rod. So, for 12 lb test line, 3 to 4 lbs. I think you will find that 3 lbs is about the most you will want based on the stress this will put on your rod. Once you have your drag measured, pull some line to get a "feel" for the setting. It is not necessary to repeat this often, although I think it's fun! From a practical standpoint, you only need to do this once with a new rig. 8-)
