WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE BRAND OF SPINNING ROD
My favorite is the G. Loomis GLX PR844S, but I am a St. Croix fan, too! 8-)

carrot stix
Summary of previous posts: Pros: Everyone that owns one claims to like them Best feature is the Carrot Stix light weight Relatively inexpensive or a "good" pricing point Great (responsive) customer service "Unique" look (color) Cons: Finish has worn off quickly on some rods Guides suck Hook holder is an issue for some Sensitivity is "average" for the pricing point The color is annoying Note: I DO NOT own a Carrot Stix, I'm holding out for the next generartion, Celery Stix! 8-)

Rod for topwater
The Pointer 100 weighs 1/2 oz. The AC66MF is rated for 1/4 - 5/8 oz lures. No problemo! 8-)

Which M/F Spinning Rod?
Well, I don't have the specific rod, but my dedicated soft plastics rig is a St. Croix ES70MF. I have a Techna AV AVS70MM which is very nice, but not the rod you need for your purpose. I'm sure you will be pleased with any three of the rods on your list. 8-)

Rod for topwater
I'm generally a big fan of 7' rods, but I really like the way I can work topwater and jerkbaits with a 6 1/2' stick! My dedicated rod is a St. Croix Avid AC66MF which has a soft tip. 8-)

Spinning Reels <$130
If you can wait it out a little, I suspect you will find a "deal" somewhere, maybe on our Flea Market. Otherwise, I realize it's priced (MSRP) above the range you wanted to pay. To answer you question, yes...there is definitely a premium here. Obviously the Stradic 2500FH @ $119 was a much better pricing point. 8-)

The Downside To Hawg Hunting
Everyone hates to lose a big bass, for any reason! For a lot of guys the big bass is icing on the cake, but it's five that count if you're tournament fishing. For many fisherman, numbers and action make the day. For Hawg Hunters, it's an entirely different mindset. The big bass fisherman are after A FISH. Getting "skunked" is part of the game, it's not a bad day, just not the "right day". However, that's not the downside to hawg hunting. In any body of water the population of the largest bass represents the lowest percentage of all the fish in the lake. The "biggest" bass, by definition, is 1 fish. To catch that fish takes more than luck, as a matter-of-fact, luck has very little to do with "consistantly" landing trophy bass. The downside to hawg hunting is missing a bite. A single strike might not be her, but if it is, it's probably the only chance you will ever get at THAT fish! For big bass guys, missing a bite is losing a huge opportunity. Just thinking about "what it could have been" can drive a man crazy! It's not exactly like "the one that got away". There is more mystery involved with the fish you never see. Sometimes it can be a striking blow, but more often a subtle softness, something light, something missing. I suspect the majority of the time we simply don't detect the bite. It's when the hook is set, you don't move the fish and you know it's game on. Those are the bites that make or break a great day. 8-)

Cruisers
Yep, they're fun to watch, but I have never caught one and don't try anymore. Just keep doing what you're doing and enjoy the moment. 8-)

Pointer Vs. X-Rap
Both! The X-Rap shines when bass (or trout) are very aggressive. Rapala describes it as a "slash bait". The Pointer series are all exceptional jerkbaits. I am particularly fond of the 128, but the 100 is the best all around size. 8-)

Buy a Curado now or wait.....
Everything I have read regarding "performance" has been very positive. The size and weight is what has been criticized by some. Put the reel on the rod you plan to use and see what you think. 8-)

Smallmouth Rig.
Look through this section for more suggestions, but you will see that tubes are #1 on everyone's list. Here is something I posted on another thread: Fish structure, not cover. Lure/ bait suggestions: Fat Ika; GYCB 5" Single Tail Grub (clear with silver flakes and/or smoke); GYCB Hula Grub; 3 1/2" tube; Rapala X-Rap, Husky Jerk or LC Pointer 100; 3/4 oz. Ledgebuster Single Willow Blade Spinnerbait; Zara Spook or LC Sammy. If you decide to fish live bait, shiners on a split shot rig rule! I recommend using #6 Gamakatsu Octopus Circle Hooks, light line on spinning equipment, and a reel with a drag you can trust. 8-)

My Evolution Jig review
For me the stand-up design is a winner, especially right now when the bottom of my ponds are covered with gunk. In a rocky environment, the jig head design makes the jig stand up and the trailer takes a defensive stance. I really like the jig, but it fits my style for the structure I fish. In heavy cover, I lose jigs...period. So, I guess I have not noticed any big difference, but I understand the point being made. 8-)

should i move up to a GLX ?
Well, I fished the IMX MBR 844C for several years before moving up to the GLX. As Raul wrote, the difference is subtle and may or may not be worth a hundred bucks to you. It really depends on how important that $100 is to you. If you get the GLX, you will not be disappointed! 8-)

Spinning Reels <$130
The Stradic 2500FI won the 2007 ICAST "Best in Category" award. The new reel incorporates many of the features previously found only in the Stella. Without a doubt, this IS the best spinning reel at its pricing point. 8-)

Best SUV tire under $150 (I bought mine today)
I'm with Micro for any company that "dun me wrong!" Back to the Goodyear Fortera...I'll say again, I have been very happy with the tire. I have the service package which includes balancing and rotation. The performance has been outstanding, the ride is quiet & smooth and after 25,000 miles, they still look new! 8-)
