Whiskey anyone?
This could be an old wives tale, but here's how I remember the story: All "whisky" was once scotch, imported from Great Britain (Scotland and Ireland) during colonial days. Scotch (malt whisky) is derived exclusively from barley. American "whisky" is derived primarily from corn and was aged in wooden barrels that were originally used to transport fish. In order to re-use the oak barrels, the insides were burned leaving a charcoal residue. "Whisky" aged in these barrels retained a "smokey flavor" which came to be know as bourbon, named for Bourbon County, Kentucky. Both Scotch and Bourbon are whiskies. Canadian whisky is another seperate distinction, derived primarily from rye, i.e., Rye whisky. 8-)

Crawfish - when to NOT use them?
Roger's review is excellent, as usual! To his list of the "important" attributes of a lure, I would add "profile" which would include size. As an example, on certain days a Senko will be more effective than a Fat Ika and vice versa, when fishing the baits exactly the same way, at the same place and time. 8-)

What to look for in a plastic bait rod?
I prefer Medium Power/ Fast Action. Lighter baits are easier to throw with a Medium Power rod. 8-)

Semicircular Scratches on Hardbaits
I think the reason "scratched baits" work better is because you have caught fish on them and therefore, use them more often. The scratches themselves probably don't add or detract from the performance of the lure. :

Cold water shore fishing questions
Skirt forward or up towards your line on a 4/0 EWG Offset Worm Hook. In shallow water, fish the Kreature weightless and weedless. For more depth, a 1/8 oz barrel or bullet weight will work fine and I usually use a bead, but that is not really necessary. 8-)

Question for Mr. Lusk
Mr. Lusk was relating a conversation with Ray Scott, " After you harvest all the bass you think need to be removed, take out twice as many more!" As I recall, no bass should be taken from the pond for three years. The key is "balance" and this must be monitored over time. 8-)
