Stickbait help!
No doubt, Rogues are very productive, but if you go that route, you need to test them before fishing the lure. I would also recommend buying them locally so the ones that are defective or become defective can be returned. Although I still have a pretty large collection, I rarely fish these jerkbaits. The balancing system in the LC Pointer and Rapala X-Rap make them a far superior product.

Crankin' rod for tops and jerks?
If you want to be VERY technique specific, there are different degrees of "softness". Generally, I would recommend Moderate Action for most treble hook lures; for heavy, deep divers maybe slow action. For some applications, I like Fast Action with a soft tip (topwater & jerkbaits). Examples of rods I fish: General: St. Croix Avid AC70MM Deep: Lamiglas SR705R Topwater & jerkbaits: St. Croix AC66MF (soft tip)

Got the rods down..how bout' the reels???
There is not a "best", just favorites. If you want to seach back through this section, you might find a few hundred threads on the topic! (Suggestions also depend on your pricing point).

Stickbait help!
The Pointers are great jerkbaits. I would also recommend the Rapala Husky Jerk and X-Rap.

1st post and a question, reels for St croix stix?
Welcome aboard! I think you will like the Stella 1000FB on the light LE. I have one (1000FA) on a AS66MLF which matches up perfectly. I don't have any experience with your inshore dilemma.

Good all around rod for less than 100$$???
Yeah, a couple of weeks ago you could have bought the Avid AC68MXF at Reed's for that price (with free shipping). Be patient and maybe you can find this rod somewhere else on sale.
-
What do you fish with the St Croix Avid AC68MXF?
Well since you have both the AS68MXF and the AC68MXF, I would use the spinning rod exclusively for soft plastics and the baitcasting rod for other presentations (jigs, spinnerbaits and buzzbaits).
-
St Croix Avid AS68MXF - what baits?
The rod is Medium Power, not Medium (Moderate) Action. Although you could use it for anything, the rod is designed for soft plastics and jigs or more broadly, single hook lures.

Guntersville questions
You might want to include a bag of Senkos, Fat Ika and Kreatures. :

sonners leading mizzou
Congratulations to the Sooners and all Oklahoma fans. There is no coulda-woulda-shoulda in that beating. Oklahoma put it on Missouri.

Curado or Revo STX high speed?
Well, not exactly. One is a Shimano, the other is not. :

Set-up for jigs, crankbaits, and heavy spinners...
Jigs and soft plastics require a firm tip. Crankbaits (all treble hooks) should be fished on a rod with a soft tip. http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1141187546

College Conference Championships
;D ;D ;D ;D WOO-HOO! ;D ;D ;D ;D Big games all around the country. SEC features LSU and Tennessee followed by the Big 12 match-up, Oklahoma Sooners and THE University of Missouri, TIGERS! Today feels like Super Bowl Sunday to me. It's been several decades since Mizzou has been a contender, and never #1. WOO-HOO! Today calls for babyback ribs, potato salad, slaw, beans and hot bread. I'll have that smoker smokin' in a couple of hours. WOO-HOO! Are ready for some football? Mizzou-rah! Mizzou-rah! Mizzou-rah! TIGERS!

Re: Greenback cutthroat trout
Well, yes...but it wasn't anything close to that! Man, that is a colorful fish. Great pic! 8-)
-
question????
Mainly backlash, but over time the whole reel will give you problems. Lower priced baitcasters are (generally) fragile, made with inferior components and tend to breakdown or fall apart.
-
question????
Even on sale, you will have to spend at least $70 on a bitcasting reel or deal with a lot of headaches.
-
question????
He wants a combination rod AND reel for $75.

Another G Loomis post...
The IMX are not stronger, the graphite is thicker so they are "tougher" in terms of abusive handling and care.
