  1. Surely this comment is in some special context. Generally, this would be a recipe for disaster and a very "common problem" for those that are not familar with spinning equipment.
  2. First of all, LonestarJohnsons, Welcome Aboard! Now, KUDOS to Jack. That's a mighty nice offer. I hope you all get together.
  3. Thicker diameter lines tend to retain coil, especially when stored on small spools. A better alternative to a true 8 lb test line is Yo-Zuri Hybrid Ultra Soft #4 (8.5 lb test, .009" diameter). This line has virtually no memory in use.
  4. Ah...Just another day fishing with George. : Nice post, great pics!

Wise guy! ;D ;D ;D I think I remember having this conversation before. My post should have a disclaimer: "Not valid in California or where prohibited by law." 8-)
  6. Only seen it in pics and videos. I see a lot of "stupid" at the ramp, but I have never seen anyone sink their truck. A relative common occurance however, is the unattached boat!
  7. It would look EXACTLY like the fat one in my avatar. The other fish was nearly four inches longer but only weighed another pound. That one is my PB.
  8. Great idea! Contact Glenn if you want to do this is an "Article" format.
  9. Hijacking your own thread? Okay...Targeting largemouth bass, I fish 1/2 oz Micro Munch Tackle jigs.
  10. Absolutely! Northern numbers are staggering. A GREAT day here is 10-15 smallmouth, combined total for two guys! Seriously, we NEVER catch numbers. Fishing live bait on the Tennessee we might catch more than 100 lbs of fish per man, but that's a combination of cats, drum, stripers, buffalo, sauger, crappie and both green bass. Just catching a brown fish every now and then is what keeps us coming back.
  11. Hey Buddy! That's a fine fish, too! 8-)
  12. Since you are relatively new to the Forum, I just want to point out that no one is making fun of your question. Reel "discussions" come up often and sometimes get heated. As a general "rule of thumb", there is no "BEST" brand or "best reel", there are just "favorites."
  13. Welcome aboard! Start here: http://bassresource.com/beginner/beginner.html Here is another thread you might find helpful: http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1182371999
  14. George is right, I was only describing a method that I use often. Then are certainly more ways than one to skin a cat.
  15. Well, I understand, but the action is somewhat muted weightless and the bait has a tendency to twirl. I initially fished it weightless but found it more "user-friendly" weighted. The article does not explicitly say "designed to be fished with a weight" but that is what is implied: "Actually, a screw-in bullet weight works better than weightless...With a screw-in sinker, the weight holds the nose steady and all the wiggle comes from the swimming tail."
  16. Remember when it used to be "Never trust anyone over 30"? Now you're thinking, "Never trust anyone under 50!"

I too thought this for a while, until I was fishing with a bud at the delta. Nailed a 4lber and a couple 2 1/2 -3's on a 6 inch robo worm. Made me a believer. Well, that's kinda what I meant: tournament fish.
  18. Unless you are fishing grass in Florida, use a split shot rig without a bobber. Cast to spots that you would target with a lure and reel SLOWLY, ticking the bottom on occasion.
  19. I'm not arguing with success, but the bait is designed to be fished with a weight. The weight causes more energy to be transferred to the tail, thus more action and vibration. http://www.insideline.net/articles/swim_senko.html
  20. No. A HUGE Lake Erie smallmouth might weigh 7 lbs which is a VERY NICE Southern bass. :
  21. "Dr. Jones" is employeed by Berkley. His work is NOT peer reviewed and his "testing" cannot be independently confirmed because his data base and methodology are "proprietary." From a purely scientific stand point (as Lane has pointed out), Berkley's/ Dr. Jones' findings are purely speculation or more pointedly, promotional propaganda.
  22. The Washington Redskins didn't think so.
  23. Here is another thread we had running recently that I'm sure will help: http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1167358924
  24. Nope, but those north of the Mason-Dixon line generally weigh less than those found in Confederate States. 8-)
  25. Threadfin shad can spawn several times a year depending on water temperatures. http://www.outdooralabama.com/fishing/freshwater/fish/shad/threadfin/
