Jika Rig Tips
Fish the Jika Rig just like you fish a T-rig. The main difference is that the bait will tend to suspend just off the bottom. I think you will be very surprised at how effective the rig is at times.

New Techniques
The early season is alreday here in the Mid South. When your season opens I STRONGLY recommend the Red Eye Shad and Smithwick Rogue. I don't know exactly when the topwater bite will catch fire, but when it starts: MegaStrike Cavitron, Zara Spook, Rage Shad & Menace. I think you should also consider the NorthStar Original Swim Jig with the Menace as a trailer.

Best Fluoro (For Braid Guy)
I do know with Seaguar, they control every aspect of their line production. Thus, line diameter's are accurate to almost 1 millionth of an inch which is very impressive. I can not think of another company that does this. I'm not trying to sound like a Seaguar Junkie, I just respect their QC and wish some other companies would follow suit. Competition is good when it comes to prices and in the American Market Tatsu does not have any equivalent competitors that I know of. I think you will be very happy with InvizX on spinning tackle and AbrazX on baitcasting gear. However, if the price is not prohibitive for you, no fluorocarbon beats Tatsu.

Buzzbaits
I'm in the same boat, but I acquired some other colors and the 1/4 oz version. Going to give these a try and report results. I'll bet they perform just as well as 3/8 Black on Black. The Cavitron is THE BOMB!

Bill Lewis Ratl-Trap
For simple retrieve and ripping through grass, they are probably as effective as the newer designs from a number of companies. What seperates the Red Eye Shad is its forward fall on slack line.

2013 Roadtrip! You're Invited!
Shiloh National Park is a HUGE attraction: http://www.nps.gov/shil/index.htm If the weather cooperates, the State Park has a beautiful sand beach and protected swimming. A golf course is immediately adjacent to the park. Tennis is on premise. Hundreds of miles of hiking trails. Pontoon rental and the Pickwick Queen Riverboat.

Southern Blizzard Warning!
Snow is predicted to start tonight with up to 1/4" before midnight and howling NW winds of 5-10 mph. Tomorrow it gets much worse with up to 1/2" of additional accumulation! Memphis may shut down this evening or early tomorrow morning. The entire metropolitan area is scrambling to stock up on milk, bread fresh vegetables and canned goods. We may be trapped in our homes for the entire weekend!

Dale Hollow Feb 28
That's a beauty!

The Pause
ABSOLUTELY NOT! The pause should be on slack line. Jerks should start from semi-slack line, just before the line is taunt.

Are There Some Baits You Just Won't Use?
Okay. I guess you can say "I'm in the tank" with Rage Tail Baits. The action is better than any soft plastic I fish, including GYCB. In fact, I have personally suggested to Big O that he add another option to some of his baits that use a softer formula. I don't care a thing about durability, all I care about is more and bigger fish. I think fish tend to hold better with a softer, fuller bait. The Fat Ika is THE perfect example and the Rage Tail Menace is darn close! "From a human perspective, they're like Twinkies".

2013 Roadtrip! You're Invited!
Well, here's a clue: You have to actually fish The Rig to catch any fish on it! I don't fish The Rig shallow, so I caught -0- on it Sunday. I only used it targeting stripes and we couldn't find them. My point is, like any other technique, there is a time and place, not all the time or anywhere.

The Pause
For whatever reason, last Sunday it had to have a blue or purple back.

Need Words Of Wisdom
A couple of observations: First of all, when you catch a fish throw out a bouy. Where you find one, there are usually many. Don't leave biting fish unless they are small. Big fish and little fish don't usually mix together. Great spots will ALWAYS hold fish, but not all the time! Mark your spots so you will always have places to target on your next trip. If you can get some tips from friends or locals, the most important questions you should ask are depth, structure or cover and "moving baits" or bottom. For example, the hot bite on the Tennessee River is "moving lures", specifically The Rig, Red Eye Shad and jerkbaits.

Are There Some Baits You Just Won't Use?
Well, it's only February so there is a lot of time left, but I'm betting this will stand as the silliest post of the year!
-
The Pause
I was using a 15-20 second pause last weekend. The pattern that seemed to work was this: Reel down quickly to depth Pause Jerk-jerk, pause Long sweep, pause jerk-jerk, pause Repeat Although it may seem like the strike occurs when you move the lure, in fact almost 100% of the bites happen when the bait is suspending and appears motionless.

I don't generally fish knock-offs which is one of the reasons I have been so impressed with the originality and creativity of MegaStrike and Rage Tail Baits.

Here are a few more ideas: Fat Ika, Rage Tail Baby Craw & Single Tail Grub.

Alex Smith Traded To Kansas City
I was a Chiefs fan from the very beginning of the AFL, an original member of the Wolf Pack! The Super Bowl win in 1970 was REALLY special. The fans have always been great. I don't know whether we invented tailgating or just perfected it! I would like to see the team competitive again.

Good review. Thanks!

Lure Of The Classic!
Water temperature on the upper portion of Pickwick was 52* last weekend and the Smithwick Rogue ruled! We were fishing on the edge of vegetation in approximately 8' of water, but I fish deeper water over structure with good success. This best color last weekend was the Purple Darter.

Yo Zurie Hybrid Question?
I'm a Yo-Zuri fan, but I fish Sunline SuperNatural monofilament on my jerkbait rig.
