New Baits And Lures
New means "new to you". There is lots of great advice here at BassResource.com, but the information overload can be overwhelming. Whether you are just starting out or a seasoned veteran, I think this might be something to consider, I know it helps me: Any time I fish something new I try to wait until I'm on a good bite for the particular class of lure. For example, I haven't fished the Rage Tail ReCon yet. Next time I am on a strong worm bite, I'll whip one out! When I fish something new I want to test it under ideal conditions. Otherwise, I might lose confidence in something that is great, but fished under the wrong circumstances. Another thing I like to do is change colors using the same bait/ lure. Again, do this when you are on a good bite not when you are struggling. Two examples that occurred this summer: We were ledge fishing at Pickwick, searching for some holes. I picked up the first bass trolling a jig while we searched, not really "fishing". Once we got out our buoys out I continued fishing the jig, my buddies fished 10" worms. To make a long story short, purple worms were the ticket and for me, the Thumper in particular. On a recent trip I fished a number of jigs in different weights and colors while my buddy fished nothing but 3/8 oz PBJ, Arkie head. I don't or didn't fish PBJ period. Well, now it has become one of my favorite colors! So, what I am recommending is to change colors or try other "same class" baits when the fishing is good. "Good" can be better!

Money
I'll stick with the fishing theme, too. Banjo Minnow and And Kicktail tie for the worst buys; high-end reels bought on sale have been my best. Most of my reels have been bought from BR members on our Flea Market. Of particular note are three Stella which I paid $300 on average, two Chronarch 50mg, two CTE200GT and one CTE100GT super tuned.

Thank You Roadwarrior!
Thanks for the kudos. As a small correction: I still fish a few GYCB baits and soft swimbaits that are not Rage Tail.

Help! In Need Of A New Baitcaster
The cost of repair and/or availability of parts does not justify the cost of repair vs replacement. In addition to some specific problem, components may be compromised due to wear or stress. This class of reel, in general, but not specifically, is built to perform as described when new. An analogy might be a BIC pen. They work well when they are new, but are not designed for cartridge replacement. They simply wear out with use.

Help! In Need Of A New Baitcaster
The OP is specifically looking for "longevity and durability". The Silver Max doesn't meet these requirements. It might be fine at the pricing point ($60), but I would consider it a "disposable" reel.

Line Is Breaking Need Some Imput.
Baitcasting gear: #12 Yo-Zuri Hybrid (19.5 lb breaking strength) Spinning tackle: #6 Hybrid (11.9 lb breaking strength) Most people like the line, but some don't. It's inexpensive, so give it a shot and see what you think. Also, I HIGHLY recommend applying KVD Line & Lure Conditioner when you spool the line.
