  1. The Roadtrip is in your "backyard". I hope you can make the trip, if not for the whole week, at least a couple of days. I'm looking forward to seeing some old friends and meeting new ones! The trip is a lot of fun, I really hope you can make it to Guntersville. -Kent
  2. Heavy lifting: 12 oz curls, Red & Whites, not Bud Light Health nut: Filtered cigarettes Fried bologna sandwich, slab of sharp cheddar, white Wonder Bread with mustard, no mayo Red wine for the heart
  3. Looking forward to your report. Wish I were there!
  4. I don't know, give it a try! The only way I fish the lure is as described, lifting it off the bottom.
  5. Take a look at the G.Loomis SJR783S and Avid AVS68MXF
  6. This is something to consider as you build your collection over time: Technique specific rods are for "enthusiasts". Almost all your fishing can be done with just one rod. Beyond that, you only "need" three rods: Spinning: 6 1/2' or 7', M or MH, Fast Action (soft plastics and light lures) Baitcasting: MH or H, Fast Action (jigs, spinnerbaits, buzzbaits and all single hooks) Baitcasting: MH, Moderate Action (all treble hook lures)
  7. I have the Champion 683C saddled with a CH50MG. Great rig for hair jigs or just about any single hook application with lures weighing 1/2 oz or less. For relative comparison, the comp would be G.Loomis IMX series.

  9. Smaller jig: NorthStar Hairy Jig, Rage Tail Baby Craw Trailer Bigger jig: GMAN Big O, Falcon skirt matched with a Rage Tail Craw (Falcon)
  10. If you are not in a hurry, keep an eye on our Flea Market. I would recommend an Avid AVC68MXF used for around $125. Braid has a lot of drawbacks, but I use it on my jig rod and another for weighted soft plastics. The line has significantly improved my jig fishing.
  11. I have fished a friend's CI4, but don't own one. My impression was over the top, I thought it compared favorably to the Stella. The CI4 has many features that were previously only available in the Stella line: http://fish.shimano....radic_MgFB.html The reviews have been good: http://www.tackletou...stradicci4.html
  12. I fish the MegaStrike Shak-e2 Pro Series almost exclusively. However, I recently purchased some GMAN Shakey Heads. I will post a review on them a little later. http://www.siebertou...d-shaky-heads-2 http://www.siebertou...roundball-shake
  13. If you are trying to be discrete, do you really care if someone gets a glimpse of your wiener? In my case, especially on a cold winter day, they're going to need a telescope anyhow!
  14. Carry a jug, like a Clorex container. Pee in the container, empty and rinse.
  15. Grilled bologna, a slab of extra sharp cheese with mustard on soft white Wonder Bread. I like a bag a chips with the sandwich. Being the health nut I am, no mayonnaise!
  16. Well now, I am a little jealous and envious of Fish Chris and Big O, but they release all their monsters. I don't want to continue arguing a point we both have made. Let's just agree to disagree. If you want the "last word" go right ahead, I'm done. -Kent
  17. I received a PM asking about the Sworming Hornet and thought others might be interested, too. I had the privilege of fishing with WMD two years ago on the BR Road Trip at Pickwick. On Thursday I caught 78 bass and a gigantic catfish on this lure: My set-up is a 3.5" Lake Fork Tackle Live Magic Shad/ 3/8 oz Sworming Hornet fished on a bait caster spooled with #12 Yo-Zuri Hybrid. Pick your favorite color combination, but I use the black and silver shad with any of the silver bladed spin heads. The key is the retrieve: Cast out and allow the lure to fall to the bottom on slack line. Keep your rod tip up. When the lure hits the bottom you will notice the line stops sinking on the surface. Reel up 3-4 turns as fast as you can, but do not move the rod tip or the position of your hands relative to your body. Let the bait fall back to the bottom on slack line. Repeat until you feel you are out of the zone. The strike will always occur on the fall. You might feel a tick, but usually it's weight or just "something different" when you begin to reel. Set the hook! Remember, reel up fast, don't pump. Pumping your rod simply moves the lure forward.
  18. I look forward to our trip to Guntersville. You will make my day look "average". I have never seen four 10's and a kicker!
  19. "its one thing to encourage catch and release, but quite another to frown upon someone if they dont release a trophy fish or any legal fish for that matter"" That's not a frown, it's a scowl. I don't like anyone keeping big bass.
  20. Keep this under your hat... There is a a rumor going around that a contest with big prizes may be in the works for the BassResource Road Trip. Don't tell anyone, we don't want a whole bunch of guys deciding to come down and steal our prizes! Mum is the word. .
  21. Well, I'm not fishing jerkbaits in what most people would consider "cold water". I haven't fished any since last fall when the water temperature was 60 something. Probably start back up again in a few weeks, but the water will be +/- 60 by then. Someone else will have the experience to give you better advice than me.
  22. WOW! That's exactly what works best for me when we are on stocker trout.
  23. My set-up is an Avid AVC66MF/ Scorpion 1000/ Sunline Super Natural. Typical presentation is to reel down fast, then let the lure sit for at least ten seconds. My first move is always a quick jerk-jerk-pause. If a fish is there looking at the jerkbait, they will strike it on the first pause. After that there is a lot of experimentation until you find the right cadence. Once you do, use that same presentation the rest of the outing. One more suggestion: Sometimes long pulls followed by long pauses will trigger a strike, but most of the time I fish jerkbaits fast.
