  1. Welcome aboard! 8-)
  2. Congratulations! Are you entitled to vacation time in May? -Kent
  3. Yeah, some of us like playing with our tackle MORE than fishing! ;D ;D:D ;D ;D :
  4. I have a Champion 683C which is a very nice rod. However, I'm just not a fan of the split grip. If that's what you like, you will like Dobyns Rods. 8-)
  5. The crankbait rod is probably just fine for all treble hook lures. For spinner baits and other single hook techniques, I suggest the MBR844C as an "all around" rod. However, take a look at both the 842 and 843, you may find them more suitable if your main focus is going to be spinnerbaits. 8-)
  6. Technique specific rods are for "enthusiasts". Almost all your fishing can be done with just one rod. Beyond that, you only "need" three rods: Spinning: 6 1/2' or 7', M or MH, Fast Action (soft plastics and light lures) Baitcasting: MH, Fast Action (jigs, spinnerbaits, buzzbaits and all single hooks) Baitcasting: MH, Moderate Action (all treble hook lures) 8-)
  7. County schools are closed, "non-essential" government personnel and anyone else that isn't required to be on the road are urged to stay home. Everything is being done to address the emergency. We already have more than 1/10" of snow on the ground and could get another 1/2" later today! ;D ;D ;D ;D
  8. I didn't know Yo-Zuri made #2, but #2 ~ 4 lb. 8-)
  9. Smallmouth bass. They don't all have stripes. 8-)
  10. Outstanding rod! I have the PR844S, which is my main smallmouth rod; and the PR844C for a variety of "treble hook" applications. 8-)
  11. That's a toad! Similar body characteristics to this one: http://www.southeasternoutdoors.com/outdoors/fishing/articles/smallmouth-world-record-controversy-hayes.html Both look a lot like yours in the avatar, but yours is MUCH prettier! I love those tiger stripes 8-)
  12. Welcome aboard! 8-)
  13. That would be great by me, although I'm not sure I can make it this year. For me, it will be a "Dream Trip". Numbers and size! ;D ;D ;D
  14. Chris Fish has stated that quite often. Maybe it only applies to double digit bass. What's he know anyhow? 8-)
  15. The "official" Kentucky record is 11 lbs 15 oz. http://fw.ky.gov/recordfish.asp?lid=555&NavPath=C101C204 We think there have been two other 10's caught on Pickwick, below Wilson Dam, but not widely reported. We know several guys with 9's, but they don't broadcast their catch. Around here, 5lbs is a great fish! Still, we occasionally catch a monster. The fish I hooked up with last year was big. Speedy thought she was significantly bigger than his. She might still be alive and I know where she lives. I hope to post her picture here in a few weeks. :
  16. Five stars Mr. Fourbizz! I like the movie, but your post is OUTSTANDING! ;D ;D ;D
  17. Hmm... Reel Mechanic is factory trained and has been in the business for thirty years or more. His "helpful" suggestions are for cleaning and oiling easily accessible parts. Opening the reel case is another ballgame. If you have mechanical skills and have disassembled/ reassembled numerous reels over the years, you can probably clean your Calais. However, I would send mine to a professional. 8-)
  18. Spend some time in the BassResource.com Library, "Fishing Articles" and "Tacklebox" at the top of the page. Here is a thread to get you started: http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1189609782 8-)
  19. Welcome aboard! 8-)
  20. Here's a clue: Next time you go to BPS, Cabelas, Gander Mountain or just about any tackle store, take a closer look around. You'll find one row of terminal tackle, a wall of line and several rows of bags and boxes. The other fifty rows are lures and soft plastics. Money makes the world go around. Tournament fishermen directly and indirectly promote tackle. That's the "business" side of the sport. 8-)
  21. The heaviest Yo-Zuri Hybrid I fish is #15 on a reel used for striper fishing. I would be fine for flippin and casting heavier lures. A fish cannot break the line, but be careful, it's difficult to break when you need to!
  22. The Core 50MG7 is my favorite reel. 8-)
