  1. The IMX SJR783S would be a better choice. You can use this rod for everything you will ever fish on spinning tackle. 8-)
  2. I clean my equipment and reorganize tackle. 8-)
  3. Hmm... Tennnesse and LSU didn't quite live up to the hype. Texas 31 Alabama 24 8-)
  4. Megabass POP-MAX Unique styling, hi grade components, masterful finish, casts well and is very effective. http://www.megabass.co.jp/product_detail.php?keyid=86&item1=1 8-)
  5. I fish Double Wide Beavers on GMAN 1/2 & 3/4 oz stand up jigs. The presentation is huge and sometimes, so are the bass that try to eat it! No issues with the trailer coming off except when the fish occasionally rips it off. I generally lose the jig before the Sweet Beaver wears out. BTW, I marinate most jig trailers in JJ's Magic. Sometimes I will stick with MegaStrike on trailers since I use it on all other baits. 8-)
  6. The small X-Rap (XR08) is most effective when bass are very aggressive. It is also killer for trout! As T-rig said, the Husky Jerk doesn't cast well. However, I have had great luck with the HJ10, chrome blue/orange. Smithwick Rattlin' Rogues are poorly made, but with some sorting and tweaking, are effective. However, even the good ones are light and unbalanced, making casting a challenge. Saving the best for last, Lucky Craft Pointers are the perfect jerkbait. All sizes are effective, but I prefer the 128. Every Pointer I own was perfect right out of the box and after many years they perform just like new! The balancing system makes casting easy and almost eliminates fowling (especially important at night). Suspension is perfect, no need for dots or tape. And then there's the magic: even when the Pointer appears to be stopped, it continues to vibrate, as if it's alive! Favorite color: Baby Bass. 8-)
  7. Nothin' to it. I quit every night around 9:00 or 10:00. Good luck! 8-)

  10. Well, I'm at the other extreme, especially for this technique. For "bottom contact" techniques (soft plastics and jigs), the rod is VERY important. For "moving" lures, not so much. For drop shotting, hardly at all! To me, high quality reels are what make "fishing" fun. For smallmouth in particular, a smooth drag is paramount. On average my reels represent 2/3 of the cost of a rig. 8-)
  11. I think he changed jobs. He used to be a banker, but now he has to actually work for a living. :
  12. Really? That's news to me, but I've been wrong before! -Kent p.s. Welcome aboard! That's one heck of a brown fish in your avatar.
  13. Back at ya! HAPPY NEW YEAR!
  14. You might find the new Shimano 2500CI4 for something close to your pricing target. Otherwise, the Symetre would be my suggestion. As for the rod, the Abu Vendetta has been getting rave reviews for a rod at that pricing point. I would take a look. 8-)
  15. We're trying to be the new "gentler, kinder" administrators. I appreciate you guys staying on top of this, but every post brings it back to the top! So...Good night Irene... -Kent a.k.a. roadwarrior
  16. Wow! I'm guessing broken in packaging or shipping. There should be no problem having the lures replaced.
  17. What are you referring to? I googled "BP stud fry" and came up with nothing. -Kent a.k.a. roadwarrior Global Moderator

  21. Lizards work year around. Just another plastic with a different "profile" and "action". I have been fishing GYCB Laminated Lizards for years, but I'm throwing Rage Tail in 2010. 8-)
  22. I have swapped out all skirts and replaced them with lumaflex skirts. I also followed another piece of Glenn's advice: "Any color is fine, as long as it's white!" 8-)
  23. T-rigged for me. 5/0 Gamakatsu Offset Round Bend Hook/ 1/4 oz bullet weight. 8-)
  24. Mike and I have never been accused of being on the "left" of any issue. ;D ;D ;D ;D 8-)
