Avids and Techna AV series are very comparable. I use to recommend the Fenwicks, but they raised their prices from $169 to $219 a few years for no apparent reason. At that time Avids were $140-$160 and a "better value". That price difference continues today. As a result, I own one Fenwick Techna AV AVS70MM. I own four Avids and two St. Croix Legend Elite.

Like a lot of guys, I like fishing a variety of techniques. It's mostly about having fun with different gear. However, if my goal (or yours) was simply to "catch more fish", I would fish nothing but soft plastics: 5" Senko and Fat Ika in shallow water, weightless; Mizmo Grande tube and Rage Tail Lobster in deeper water, weighted. Throw a Chug Bug, spinnerbait, jig and an XCalibur in the mix and you have a complete tacklebox! I think Catt has caught all, or at least most, of his double digits on a 7 1/2" Gene Larew Salty Ring Worm. Maybe that is the ONLY bait a guy really needs!
