I would think the pond should be warmer in the summer even if there is no spring. The water is stagnant and you mentioned shallow. It has more surface area and would heat up from the sun more compared to the river. Any lake ive fished that has an inlet flowing in is warmer than the lake in the spring, and the inlet is cooler in the summer than the lake. I think inlets are a great spot no matter if theres a spring or not.

That #3 size is for ice fishing crappie, thats why its so small. Theres a #4 or #5 that maybe would cast a little better if you find out thats an issue.

Just checked the rapala website and i was wrong. They should suspend, i dont think ive ever had one that didnt rise.

Very intrigued by this. One review says they received it and its a B-stock (blemished, sold at a discount at the factory). If thats the case I'd wonder how they got it, and Id assume St Croix would not be happy about it. I'd call and verify its new with full warranty before ordering.

That would be great with the 1000 size. I use a 5' UL with a 500 size reel for trout and crappie. A 1000 size with a L rod would be ideal id think and give a bit more casting distance and power for larger trout.

Yes. The more expensive lines will be lighter, more sensitive, prettier, better fit and finish, but blanks are pretty consistent. Everyone says St Croix is a bit heavier or stouter than other rod companies. It's all i own so i cant compare them myself. My advice is just get your hands on some rods in the store and conpare, then decide if you want to keep it, return for a ML, or get a different brand.

Fish are cold blooded, metabolism depends on the water temperature. They will eat the most when the water is warmest out of necessity, but that doesnt mean they'll bite your bait most. I think their location and likelihood of being caught changes in the fall making it appear they are feeding more.

Yes. I would go for it, if possible handle it next to another similar medium/fast rod and see if you can tell any difference. If anything it could maybe be a touch lighter since most walleye rods are a ML or M and you rarely see a need for a MH. Another thing to do could be compare the lure weight ratings with a rod you like or already own.

You can jig them straight down, or cast out then rip them of the bottom and lower the rod as you crank up the slack, then rip again. The fish will hit it on the fall, or when you go to rip you'll set the hook automatically. You can also do more of a slow lift off the bottom, lots of ways to do it.

The UL rippin raps are great for ice fishing crappie and walleyes. The most popular size for open water is a #6 which is a half ounce that i use quite a bit. There's a #5 which is a 1/4 oz.

It's worth it to me! Just a result of the fact that there can be more anglers than fish in the lake and they take 20 years to reach trophy size. But I agree some take it too far, not unlike some anglers of bass or trout.

It's fun? In my eyes there's no reason to upgrade for "longevity" by replacing equipment that hasn't had any issues yet.

I'm of the opinion that color is the least important factor compared to location, weather, size, action, etc. To me those all look similar size/shape but with different colors and wiggles like you mentioned. I'd be interested to see the same kind of test with different shapes like a minnow bait vs. shad shape and more variance in size. Overall I'm not shocked one bit that the manufacturer doesn't matter when baits are generally the same style. All the tiny little details like eye color or molded in scales don't matter to me at all.

I use Sufix Siege for a leader. I feel like it's pretty tough and dont need to worry about knot strength issues like fluoro. I'm happy with it and will stick with it. Just my experience.

Leinie's is owned by Molson Coors, much better local options throughout the whole state but I suppose I wouldn't complain. I'm also Bears fan by birth ? Another man of culture. I prefer mine sour with olives.

St Croix only from crappie and trout all the way up to musky. I have been to the factory a couple times. What else could a multispecies fisherman in Wisconsin ask for?
