Your very first baitcaster
Mine was similar to Catts. A red, ABU 5000, which was a hand me down from my brother.

What advantage(s) does a spinning rod have over a bc rod?
They can each have they're time and place. Spinning rods cast lighter lures and lines better. BC tackle is usually used for heavier lines and baits. Both work good for bass fishing.

The Frogman
In 1957, Mr. Bill Plummer took his daughter to a dental appointment. He had promised his daughter a toy, if she didn't cry at the dentist office. He bought his daughter a plastic frog toy, with a small bulb that you pressed to make it hop. He saw an idea for a bass lure, and borrowed the toy from his daughter, inserting a hook which he had wisely already patented. The frog lure caught fish, and Bill Plummers Superfrog was born. He contacted the toy maker in Japan, and ordered hundreds of these frog toys, and by 1968 they were a popular hot seller to bass fisherman, eventually being made by the Harrison Hodge company. Bill Plummer himself caught hundreds of 5lb+ bass on the frogs, and scores of documented 7 and 8lb bass from smaller lakes all around New England. He shunned tournament fishing, and fished from a 12ft car topper boat with a 3hp engine. He also never had a trolling motor, preferring to shut off the engine and slowly row into casting position, never relying on any electronics. He became wealthy with his invention, and fished five or six days a week most of his life. Personally, I always thought fisherman like Bill Plummer were unique. He never followed the latest trends in bass fishing, he invented his own baits, and fished with his own unique style, not caring about the latest hot thing on the market. And, he caught scores of big bass along the way. We all probably owe him a debt for the popularity of frog fishing these days. Bill Plummer, The original Frog Man.

What happened to the family of skunks when they went to church? They had to sit in they're own pew.

How do yall approach “Let the fish talk?”
If I catch a good one on a sqaurebill, I'll throw it a few more cast, then work the area over with a t rig worm. Not all the bass may be hitting the sqaurebill, and it's paid off for me to fish the area slowly before I take off, with either a jig or trig.

Fishing in milfoil
I got back into using frogs a couple of years ago for this reason. A weedless frog with upturned hooks are perfect for working over thick milfoil.

Dad Joke Thread
One time, I went to a casino. I was sitting there playing a slot machine, when a guy tapped me on the shoulder. "Sir, we have a strict policy here! You have to wear a shirt in this casino!. I'll have to ask you to leave! At that point, I realized I'd literally lost the shirt off of my back, and it was time to go home.

Best BBQ
Some towns become known for BBQ. Kansas City is this way. They have some good places here, but I don't get what is actually KC BBQ. All of these places are different in how everything taste. As for the sauce, most of the better places just put a very small amount on the meat, and serve the sauce as a side, so you can add it as you like. There's just as many arguments about sauce also. Everyone has they're favourite. Some folks like it hot, some others like more sweet style. One of the oldest is Arthur Bryant's at 17th and Brooklyn. It's in a bad neighborhood, so we don't go much anymore. In this area, its become popular for young folks to get together and head down to the old parts of KC for BBQ.

Best BBQ
J Francho, in KC MO there used to be a place that made pulled pork sandwiches this way, and put the Cole slaw on the sandwich. They were super good, but not as popular as other BBQ.

ARMED FORCES DAY ~
Great post A-Jay. I stand behind all our men in uniform, both past and present. I appreciate all who have served in any way. If you see a man in uniform, give him a nod and tell him thank you. Thank him for the service he's given his country.?? They are heroes!

Best BBQ
Catt, this is true. Most of the best BBQ cooks make they're own sauce. It's they're secret

Retirement
In four more weeks, I'll be retiring from 35 yrs of carpentry work. It's kind of a turning point, like getting your first car, or getting married. I was hired with a local union in 1985, in the carpentry apprentiship program. I had to attend classes 2 nights per week, and work during the day. The early years were hard. I spent most of the apprentiship packing concrete forms on commercial jobs. I had many days when I wondered if I was really cut out for this work, as it was so physically demanding. In 1989, I took the test to make journeyman. I failed the test once, but 4mos later passed with a perfect score. Journeymen carry more respect on the big jobs, but the work is still very hard. I started having some knee problems and a slight hip problem by 2000, so I left the union and hired in with a general contractor, supervising a crew on home remodeling, and older house rehab and the last three years I've worked for my daughter who buys some older homes and rents or re sells them. I plan on staying busy, helping a friend who has a small home repair business 2 or 3 days per week, mostly on small jobs. I'm hoping I have more time to spend with my family and grandkids. Maybe some more fishing time also. It's. been a long, tough road.Ive packed so much lumber, driven so many nails, and cut so many boards I think I could do it in my sleep. I have 4 yr old grandaughter who comes over to our house most every Saturday afternoon. Last time she was over, she was sitting at the kithcen table, working on her coloring book. She overheard my wife and I talking about all this retirement stuff, and said" granpa, you should be happy, you made it!" My granddaughter Trinity summed it up well. That's right Trin, somehow I made it.

Baits that are hot and cold for you?
Same for me with lipless baits. I've been using them the past few trips because they cast good in the wind. But they havnt worked well so far.

Still using ol'Creme worms?
One of the best worms of all time. My brother and I bought our first pack at a hardware store in Chillicothe Mo, a long time ago. One of the first and original plastic worms. The always popular Zoom Trick Worm is almost a direct copy of the Creme Scoundrel. I bought two 3 packs of the original earthworm color at Wal Mart recently. My favourite color is purple. I t rig them with 1/8 to 1/4 oz sinker and 3/0 straight shank hook. One of the greatest bass lures ever made, hands down. I think there's quite a few guys here on BR that still use them.

Bass are unpredictable
I watched a co angler set the hook on a bass years ago. As soon as he hooked the fish he said, " Oh it's a good one". He easily reeled in this fish, and the bass made one half hearted jump, never really clearing the surface. I netted this bass for him, and it weighed 7lbs 2oz. Yet, it came to the boat very easily, and didn't fight much at all. On the other hand, I've had four lb fish tear it up, thrashing around, jumping, and pulling very hard. This is all part of what makes bass fishing so much fun. Each fish is a little different, and unpredictable in the way they fight. Have you ever hooked a good size fish of say, 6lbs or more that didn't fight very hard?

Silver Minnow trailer
jj, I like the Zoom split tail trailer, or sometimes a section of plastic worm threaded on the hook. When pork baits were still easy to come by, a #11 pork frog or Uncle Josh split tail eel were also good trailers. Glad to see your still throwing the old Silver Minnow. I use mine in mid summer when the weeds get thick. Great lure.

$150 Zebco combo!
I still have 2 old 33s from years ago. I don't use them, but they still work. Zebcos work for a lot of folks. I think Jimmy Houston fished his early tournaments with Zebcos, as mentioned Woo Davies, and Stanley Mithcell, who won the Bassmaster Classic with a Zebco 404.
