Favorite lure type

Featured Replies

What is your most favorite lure type that you just find yourself reaching for all the time? For me, it has to be the various inline spinners. This may sound typical to some lol, but I just really love the things. They come in every color, weight, and variation imaginable, not to mention you can make your own fairly easily. They are very simple to use, I must have at least 50. The things just catch the fish, period. Bottom line. In murky or clear water, sunny or twilight. So what is your go to?

From the very beginning topwater has been my love. I catch a ton of fish on plastics, jigs, cranks and others, but the small percentage of the fish I catch that succumb to a topwater are the ones I remember and dream about during the offseason.

BTW, I love in-line spinners, too.  The problem is, in the lakes up here, vegetation kind of puts  a big wrench in the works once it gets thick.

For me it’s a swimming worm.
Either a Rage Cut R or a UV Speed Worm.

I use either or both every outing.

Oh I forgot to mention, I changed out all the treble hooks with single. They actually go through grass pretty easily and continue to spin when they exit. This is my experience anyway. I replace the treble hooks with different size open eye siwash hooks. Best decision I ever made. They are so sharp sometimes I bring the fish in hooked in their head or side of the face! But usually they are perfectly hooked around the mouth, easy low stress removal ??

Spoons.  Deep or shallow, and in all sizes, from the little guys for crappie to the mediums for walleye and the biggies for pike, bass and musky. I use them in rivers and I use them in lakes. I use them right after ice-out, and I use them right up to ice-up. I love my spoons.         jj

Jigs and Jerkbaits!

Finesse jigs, swim jigs, brush jigs, etc, etc.  Hook sets on jigs are amazing.

Nothing like a jerkbait bite.

Fighting a big fish on jerkbait tackle is like nothing else.

Jig.  I think.

I keep walking by the big Mepps Black Fury #4 at the store.  I really really want to catch a bass on one.  I used to read the Mepps Catalog cover to cover over and over as a kid.  I didn't even have a fishing rod or gear, but that catalog was magical to me.

maybe I should just buy it and throw it for a day.  scratch that itch!!

IDK...something plastic ?

Soft plastic

Shaky head. Hands down, the shaky head. A close second would be the ole faithful T-rigged craw or lizard. Nothing produces for me like these two techniques. I have recently been trying wacky rig, but nothing yet.

I've always loved my Jerkbaits! That is what I caught my PB on, and ever since that, I have been using Jerkbaits a lot! I like my Shadow Raps, and pretty soon I'll buy a Vision 110 to try it out. Weightless Senkos have to be a close 2nd though. At least 50-60% of my fish over 2 pounds have been on weightless Green Pumpkin Senkos!

Spinnerbait. The majority of my good size fish are on them. I’m addicted to them right now. Send help.

Favorite lure type @BassSteve- it’s gonna be topwater. Put two people together fishing and one is throwing something on top, BOTH of ‘em will be concentrating on that topwater lure anticipating the strike. Otherwise, it’s whatever the fish want and you can keep one rod in your hand on that particular day.

Favorite: Spinnerbait and popper.

Most productive: T-rig and swimbait.

The one I use on a given day: Whatever the fish want, whether it's above or not.

tie between

creature bait, sweet beaver

swim bait, skinny dipper

jig.

Topwaters. I want to move to FL so I can use them year round.

I'd have to say the same. But it would be hard not to say a spinnerbait is tied with this.

When conditions are right I love throwing a wakebait such as a 1-Minus. I've also built enough confidence with jerkbaits that I reach for them a lot during late fall and winter. That said, other baits such as ned and Dark Sleeper pretty much always earn their keep. For whatever the reason I've trended away from worms lately.

All about the plastic worm, trick worm or senko. #1 confidence bait.
