performance anxiety when fishing with guides.
That's exactly what Brit did with me on the guided trip I had earlier this year. She found spots that looked promising, suggested techniques and even color options. Still the best day of fishing I've had this year.

Dobyn's Colt 734c 7'3 H/F for frogs, swim jigs, etc. ?
Since my Aird-X H/F handles 50# 832 with no issue, I don't see a problem...if it doesn't, then it's not worth the price even at discount.

I'm betting Pflueger will be the first to go considering they trimmed all but the President XT from their baitcaster lines a couple years ago.

Doubt there's much salt-water fishing in OK Van Staal's are mostly for sport fishermen going after Tuna, Marlin, Sailfish, etc....maybe could use for sturgeon or big muskies in fresh water...but it's not ideal.

G-Man
Click the Speaker icon at the top of the frame to turn audio on - audio is fine here. Typical G-Man - long winded and somewhat irreverent.

Summer to fall bass movement?
Just like any other predator - and make no doubt that sunnies and crappies are predators, just smaller prey than bass (who are close cousins). They're gonna follow their prey, and search for cover to hide from those that hunt them. As deeper weeds die off, quite a number are going to move into the shallower weeds to keep hiding...and that's where their prey will be (minnows, insects, etc) trying to hide from them. The bass are going to follow their prey - the sunnies and crappies.

What do you want your rod to look like?
Performance above all - looks definitely secondary. Of course saying that, there are visuals that turn me off - bright colors, tie-dyed reels...nope...don't care how well they perform, they cause eye strain for me.

Troubleshooting Power to Headunit
Is that direct from the Garmin, or is there another connection between the battery and the head unit? By the picture.... Plain red wire should be positive - currently connected to negative Red/Black wire should be negative - currently connected to positive So it looks like there's a polarity reversal somewhere between the battery and the unit. Since it worked fine at Scheels maybe even the plug that connects to the cradle...did you bring your cable or use theirs? Or it could even be the connections inside the battery - what's the brand of that battery? I know it might seem anal...but that's how nit-picky I am when wiring up things.

Dobyn's Colt 734c 7'3 H/F for frogs, swim jigs, etc. ?
MSRP is $55 for the Aird-X - sometimes you can find them for $45 I have a 7' H/F which is my frog rod, Fuego CT-XS with 50# 832...does quite well tossing frogs actually...I'm not sure if I'm gonna upgrade it or not right now.

Show Off Your Work!
Okay - I'm baby-stepping my way into this. Just picked up some plain swimbait heads and wanted to 'spice them up'. Pro-Tec paint from Barlows, some larger eyes for the 1/2oz I got from Amazon and smaller eyes from Barlows for the 1/4oz. Right now, 4 colors should do me: (reverse order) Green Pumpkin, Green Chartreuse, Black and Fire Craw. My setup is bare-bones - cheap craft heat gun, rack I made from scrap aluminum and a brass rod, and a salvaged toaster oven. The wire-rack in back is my 'cooling rack'...also did up some 1/32oz and 1/16oz ball jigs for crappie fishing. Yes, the toaster oven is set to 400 - the oven thermometer was used to calibrate it...dial says 400, thermometer went "uh-uh, 350"

Weightless texas rig - casting distance
I have an Okuma Reflexions 7'0" MH/F spinning rod with a Supreme-30 mounted. 20# Braid to 12# YZH leader. I use this for my jig skipping as I can't skip with a casting rig to save my life. Rod is rated to 1-1/4 oz, so I can toss quite a bit.
