  1. Shhh...don't let 'them' know it's underpriced...they'll jack it up and put it out of reach of us budget anglers. Ya, a good review would be nice...I've got three rods I want to upgrade and while I'm definitely a Dobyns fan-boy, I could be persuaded to look at something else.
  2. Got a little time to go out today - not enough to launch/land the boat...so some shore fishing. At least they're getting bigger.
  3. I'm a little far from salt to need a heavier reel - IPT on my reel is 31, which is plenty. I do jerks and cranks on spinning occasionally...so I'm not gonna diss you for that.
  4. I just loop my pinkie under the line by the roller and lift a loop off - repeat as needed until you got the length you want.
  5. If I'm skipping my spinnerbait - I'm right there with you. 2500 size reel, 20# 832, MH/F spinning rod.
  6. My Strike King Tour Grade swim jigs seem to just brush aside milfoil and pondweed.
  7. I run 4# YZH on a 1000 reel - my ML/MF rig You could run 6# on a 2000/2500 reel with no issues 8# I'd want a 3000 or 4000 reel for.
  8. Yep, line up...get some momentum going, kill the motor, glide up...a few cranks and it's done.
  9. Ya, I'm the same way with the VMC SpinShots - they even have an Off-Set Wide Gap version for creature baits.
  10. Even back in the 90s when I had the runabout and water was at or even a little above normal level it was that way...it's a VERY short concrete ramp.
  11. Guess you never launched at Phelps...they got just a few lengths of concrete (12"wide, 12' long) laid down, If you want at least 1/2 the hull touching water, your trailer tires are going beyond them...and that's with my 14'.
  12. Well, the latest Tournament on my lake (which I've been fishing for 30+ years) had the top seven teams getting 20#+ bags (winner had 24#7oz) and my best day in the last 5 years was 12#....
  13. Without trailer - a rod rated to 1oz (MH for most, H for Dobyns) With trailer - a rod rated to 1-1/4 to 1-1/2oz (H or MagHeavy Dobyns) 17#-20# Mono/FC or 30# braid
  14. This is what I've been using for 50+ years...hasn't let me down yet.
  15. 4WD, hook the trailer to a winch and keep the truck on dry pavement, or find a different ramp. Lake I fish has close to a dozen ramps scattered across it for 14,000 acres.
  16. Ya - well when their boats and equipment let them FIND the fish while I'm tooting around TRYING to find the fish....I can cast all day, but if the fish aren't when I am... 14' Modified Alumacraft, 25hp electric-start Evinrude, 45# Edge, Striker Plus 7cv, and an anchor. That's what I'd be using against guys who spent more on their sonars alone than I did on my whole boat. There's confidence, then there's being so far outclassed by the other rigs that it's not even a contest.
  17. If I remember correctly, @A-Jay put a set under his Lund and loves them. Let's see if he'll pop in and review again.
  18. A-Jay is correct...some batteries say 'Starting', some say 'Deep Cycle' - those you should only use for that specific purpose...but there are those that are 'Dual Purpose' and you can use them for both starting and TM/Electronics. Only downside is if you drain them too much, you better hope you got a pull-cord on that motor.
  19. I hate to disagree - but I clip 6# and 8# mono without issues.
  20. That clip is for storing the line when you don't have a lure on to hook through the keeper. I take all lures, clips, hooks, etc off my reels after a trip. With my casting reels, I put a line-keeper on and reel up to the tip-top With my spinning reels, I bring the line down from the tip-top and clip it into 'that' clip. I do use it like DB stated but the only time I un-guide the line is if I'm moving the reel to a different rod, or taking it off to store it. I wish casting reels had the clip
  21. Power Pro IS a good line...but I've moved up a step to Sufix 832 PP is a 4-carrier braid - meaning 4 strands braided together 832 is an 8-carrier braid - with one of those being Goretex...it's smoother and resists abrasion better.
  22. You could always rebuild that V-hull....that's what I did.
  23. I'd rather be safe than sorry - I ran 12awg Ancor from house battery to circuit breaker, then from there to the fuse box. 16awg is what I used from the fuse box to...where-ever (pumps, sonar, lights, etc)
  24. I think you'll like it - I got an AM/24 last fall when I started the F-9 project. Like the mesh-vest in the canoe, I wear it the entire time I'm on the water...fairly comfy, and if I get tossed from the deck by a passing wake boat, I'm 'safe'.
  25. This isn't new - one of the channels I follow (for my scale modeling) has been hit with that off-and-on for over a year.
