  1. And the forecast has the bouncing ball back Friday: 8 Saturday: 30 Sunday: -3 Monday: 2 Tuesday: 21 Will the stupid weather make up it's mind!!!
  2. Ahh - got it...ya, singlets have always been an issue.
  3. Have they done away with the caller? Sits in the back facing forward, makes sure they stay on track and avoid obstacles, and also calls the strokes to keep them synced to each other. I know about this as I was caller for the JV crew team when I was at Worcester Academy 1971-72 school year.
  4. 3/8oz is my 'crossover' point - where it's equally likely to cast on spinning as it is to toss it with casting. Fury 705CB is my casting rod as well. My spinning is an 7' Okuma Reflexions A ML/MF-F...not quite a mod-fast, but a little springier than a fast. It's also rated to heavier lures than my Fury 702SF - 5/8oz top rather than the 1/2oz top of the Fury.
  5. 20' would probably be enough. When I put leaders on braid, it's usually no more than 8'. I would steer clear of straight braid, even 8#...braid doesn't stretch at all, and you want stretch for treble hooks. Myself - I use Yo-Zuri hybrid. 12# on the casting rig for larger cranks, 4# on the spinning rig for smaller/lighter cranks. I also use a mod-fast action rod for both rigs.
  6. Unless you're using a LONG leader, that braid might impart too much force on hook-set. Also it won't give enough to keep them hooked over the duration of a fight. Treble hook lures, for the most part, need the stretch of mono/FC/hybrid
  7. The setup you have should be fine for both.
  8. Considering the encyclopedia of knowledge you've displayed here, Tom...I'm not surprised.
  9. Present (besides Fishmas) is a spool of 40# Sufix 832 - I guess just because...already thanked them. I use it on two reels, so this gives me fills for both @75yds each.
  10. Depends on the sonar - all I got is a 7" Garmin Striker CV (Downscan, no Sidescan)...it's not even a Vivid.
  11. Ya - but when I only got out 6 times last year - that means almost 3 years to make it even-odds.
  12. I hear you there on the first part Second part - I just need something over 4.7 for a new PB - though a 5+ would be very nice.
  13. Well, that's my primary DS pastic...so unless someone gifts me some, I think I'll skip the flatworms...though being Berkley does give them a heads up Zoom and Berkley probably comprise 80% of my plastics.
  14. Must have missed the boat...only 'flatworms' I'm familiar with are the ones we dissected in biology class many (many...many) moons ago
  15. What's a flatworm? (No, I don't have any)
  16. As I have mostly mid-range to lower end reels - this is how I set mine too The Patriarchs with dual braking - yep...set the same and as stated above 3-on/3-off on the centrifugal, half setting on the magnetic to start things off and dial in the magnetic between casts.
  17. VMC DLS - size 0....when I use a snap anyway.
  18. I just started assembling my 'arsenal' a few years ago. For the boat, I'm up to 11 combos (6 casting, 5 spinning); for shore I have 3 dedicated (1 casting, 2 spinning) and two of the boat combos can also be used (1 each). All my shore fishing is done from DNR reserved spots on the lake, I'm never more than 50 yds from the truck, so swapping rigs isn't a big deal...I'll take two to the spot I'm fishing from...swap out if I want to try something those rigs won't be good at.
  19. I just hovered over it and looked at the web-address...looked fine so I clicked...good contour map of the lake and that's all. It's just past mid-summer there and that's a big/deep lake - so I'd look at drop-offs near shallower water especially in or close to one of those many coves.
  20. You talking something like this, pal?
  21. $75-$120 range Dobyns Fury (I've got two of these) St. Croix Bass X Lews TP1-X Diawa Procyon (One of these in my arsenal)
  22. It's like that in other places too. Minnesota: We can use worms, leeches, insects, crayfish, bullhead and minnows (specific species)...and that's it for live bait. If you catch your own water species (leeches, crayfish, bullhead, minnows), they HAVE to be used in the same waters (lake, pond, stream, river) that you caught the bait. You also cannot return unused bait to the water, they have to be disposed of in the trash.
  23. For a single rod application with those techniques - it'd be my Okuma Reflexions A, 7' ML/MF, Avocet RZT-2000 filled with 8# InvizX. I'd carry a bit more in the way of lures - what I could fit in my Plano 3600 Weekender.
  24. Ya - yesterday morning was brutal. At least it got above zero in the afternoon. At +16 currently at my place....BREAK OUT THE SWIMSUITS!
